    My mom used to make this too, but she also adds dried Shiitake Mushroom. It goes so well with a bowl of rice

    This is truely Chinese home style 🥰 I remember my mum use to cook it the same way but with thinly sliced dried shitake mushrooms, chinese red dates and wolfberries. To them steam food is healthy food.

    I love how you say that we can use bourbon lol. I remember that video when you ran out of the wine and used bourbon for the dish you were fixing😊 That was early in the pandemic-your videos helped calm me and keep things sane. I so appreciate you!

    For years, I have substituted arrowroot for corn starch as a healthier option and works just like corn starch. No change in flavor in any of my Chinese entrees or thickening sauces. I am making this dish for dinner this week! Thanks Flo and Dude. Glad to hear Dude is okay from COVID and retained his sense of taste.

    Lup Cheong was a favorite gift to take to South Africa too. I would also use rehydrated Shitake mushroom along with it. A little less budget though. Glad to see the the timing for the pressure cooker, very helpful. Thank you for another great recipe.

      It carries it in my Costco too. In fact I bought several packages . I like that they are vacuum sealed and don’t have to be refrigerated.

    Just ordered the Lup Cheong via Amazon and am REALLY looking forward to making this when it arrives. Chicken leg/thigh quarters are inexpensive here at Publix and I'm good at boning so no need to have to pay three times as much for the store prepared packages. Thanks again!

    Love this dish. Ate it when we were growing up. My mom also cooked the Chinese sausage with eggs. Sooo good. Chinese sausage is my sons favorite go-to-food when they have nothing to eat at home.

    Looks like a tasty dish. I've never seen the Lup Chong, but will search it out at our local Asian market. So sorry to hear that Dude had covid, and hopefully he is feeling much better. Both my daughter and wife had it around Mothers Day and they were both pretty sick but rebounded just fine.

    flo, i am in northern maine many yrs ago....i was stationed in Pearl Harbor HI...and there was street food at the big swap meets..were vendors sold stuff.. it was amazing!!!! anyways.... they cooked with a multi layered bamboo steam trays...IT WAS REAL ATHENTIC CHINESE FOOD ...anyways what i miss more then any thing was they made like a steamed rolls??????? but it had sweet pork in the center..like our jelly donuts.... is there anyway.... you can do that too? they hasd the bestest foods i ever ate...samonian/ korean/ chineses/ japanese/ hawaiian/ it was a paradise of food flavors .. i sure do miss it....i have been bing watching ytour videos love that you have faith indocernated into your channel,,,, we need GOD MORE THEN EVER NOW to get through this .... thank you and dude for everything you do ;];];];]

    Post partum my mom told me to make this, but with Shitakes too. So I would have rice steaming and another trivet so the chicken can steam too in my IP. Just made some quick veg and dinner was ready, which was great because I was so dead tired with a newborn!

    Thank you for the tip about the dutch oven. I've been wondering if I could use it to steam dishes. I bought the 3qt IP and so not many dishes I can fit into it without making a mess. :)

    Love this dish , but again , we used to be able to get the sausage here ( we called it “ fan cheung” ) , but have not seen it for a long time , limited importation rules I suppose . We are deprived of all these things , that’s why we try and stuff our suitcases when we travel 😅 hope Dude recover speedily , he hasn’t lost his taste so he’ll be back soon.

    arrowroot is as good a thickener as corn starch with the added feature that the gravies produced are far more transparent.

      It might taste good, but I don't know how a prominent ginger flavor works with Italian spices, so you might want to leave that out. If you want an authentic taste, then I don't think Italian sausage would work on this one. I bought some of this lap xuong sausage recently from Costco for a really good price. Of course it is available at all Asian markets. Experimenting with Italian sausage may work for you though.

    I accidentally bought lap xuong with pork and liver. Ive been afraid to try it. I absolutely love the regular pork. Is there a dish you can recommend or anything you can share about the pork and liver sausage.

      never heard of one made with liver! I'll have to look at the packaging closer to make sure i do not select that.

      My mom would cook the liver and pork laap chueng (or chicken and pork ones) in the rice cooker along with the rice. It would rest on top of the raw rice and at same time be submerged under the water. Sometimes I press it slightly down into the raw rice if the water doesn't cover it.The rice would taste so yummy from absorbing the flavor from laap chueng while cooking. My mom would slice up any kind of laap chueng to eat with white rice as a smaller side dish or use it to make her signature laap chueng and chicken fried rice with shitaki mushrooms.

      OMG the price of the it is ridiculous on Amazon. If you can get it at an Asian market, that is best as it’s only a few dollars, depending on the brand. It’s either spelled Shao Hsing or Shao Xing. If you can find that, you can use the clear one called Michu or almost any Chinese cooking rice wine. I have seen other ones in Asian aisle of regular supermarkets.

      The one that I bought at an Asian market was called Hua Taio cooking wine and has an orange label. When I looked it up I think that it is the same wine that Flo has referenced. It was only like $3.00 a bottle, but that was about 6 months ago. It has worked really well in all of her recipes so far.
