Making this this evening! Loved hearing your kitties call for food, probably smells delightful to them. After years, still love this channel Flo and Dude!
I love it when your cat enters the video. I have quite a few cats so the meowing is familiar and oddly soothing. Your recipe sounds delicious. My daughter in law will enjoy it with me. Thanks so much guys for sharing!✌️✌️💜💜🙏🙏😺😺
I made the chicken only, served over white rice plus steam broccoli. Substituted shallots with yellow onion using what was on hand. Grated garlic, ginger, onion instead of pestle (didn't have) and stuffed them in chicken. Added your sauce recipe and let the chicken marinate over night. Cooked in the oven today. It turned out super tasty! Thanks for the video!
Like 166 👍 Hello form Naples, Florida. That looks delicious, Flo. We enjoyed watching you prepare the meal. Your presentation at the end is spectacular. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Hi Guys. I love your channel. I can watch whole day everyday. My name is Clare. I'm in Cape Town South Africa, in Cape Town people call a quarter chicken a gun due its shape
I don’t know which is the mortar and which is the pestle, but I have one exactly like it. Only difference is mine is about to be an antique! Another great (and cost-effective) recipe!! Happy Sunday😳! TFS, Sharon🤗
Thank you 🙏 for this recipe. It’s great for a weekday dinner. Quick and it looks delicious. I’m going to try it tonight 😁. My husband is Chinese and all of the ingredients used in this recipe are used in the Cantonese style food so I can’t wait. Thank you again. God bless.
The mortar is the bowl. The original firearm was a very similar bowl. The pestle, from an Italian word meaning "to pound" -- "pesto" is a "pounded" sauce.
Another great recipe Flo. I like to add a tsp. of sesame seed oil to the ginger/scallion sauce. I noticed that Dude is a true Malaysian eating with fork & spoon lah!
It's funny how as a fellow Canadian, I was like "Oh, $9 is a good score for that chicken!" Groceries are so expensive here, thanks for another delicious, affordable meal!
A friend from Ontario teased me that BC stands for "Bring Cash" lol! We are blessed to live in a gorgeous Province in a wonderful Country, even if our groceries cost a little more 😊
Also in the U.S. except the Republicans complain like it's only our country effected by inflation. Tired of the way my country is heading. A lot of people have moved out!
When cooking rice, instead of chopping & sauteing more garlic I just use a couple good pinches of fried garlic, which I get for cheap from the local Asian market.
You should tried the real version of Malaysian chicken rice recipe with fried soy sauce marinated chicken, chilli sauce & thick soy sauce together with chicken soup. That's what we always eat here in Malaysia. Never eat your version before but your scallion paste looks good too. Will try it TQ ❤
Mortar is the bowl part and pestle (silent T) is the beater/stick shaped part.... mortar comes from the latin word mortarium - a place for pounding and pestle comes from latin pistillum which means pounder...and now you know... (grin) Thx for all the lovely recipes... from a local to Vancouver atheist.... ;^)
Just now made this tonight and it was delicious. I always haver Ketjap Manis in the pantry because my mom used it with her Indonesian Saute's. I can't find it anywhere local so I order through Amazon. I didn't have crispy shallot so I used crispy garlic (commercial) and it was really good. I will make this again.
Hey Flo and Dude. Do you remember watching Danny Kaye in the movie “A Connecticut Yankee in King Arthur’s Court”? There is a couple of lines from that movie that I remember that the “pellet with the poison is in the vessel with the pestle. The chalice from the palace has the brew that is true.” Any hoo, The mortar is the bowl and the pestle should be pronounced with a silent ‘T’, so it rhymes with “vessel”.
Love the roast chicken , I am going to try your recipe , unfortunately we don’t get nice ginger like yours , ( have to grow my own 😀) ,but the roast chicken really looks delicious , many blessings to you and family . 🙏
Flo, I ordered your cookbook today from, Amazon, it’s arriving on, Saturday. I can’t wait. I also followed you there, I don’t know if that helps you any.
The dish looks amazing and relatively quick to prepare. Also, interesting to see the versatility of an instant pot. Have you tried or know if it's possible for deep frying?
Flo, 5pc chicken legs, $9.00 is a good deal??? YIkES!!! In NYC they’d go for about $4.00 American & I freak out!! Canada is super expensive. God bless & help all of us, especially you Guys. I think your, Kitty has chicken envy!😅
Would appreciate recipes that can be cooked in other than an Instant Pot. Not everyone has one and/ wants to use it for a variety of reasons. Thank you.
I googled it: " The mortar is a durable bowl commonly made of stone, ceramic, or wood. The pestle is a rounded grinding club often made of the same material as the mortar."
I wish you would’ve showed a list of the different sauces that you are using. The one that you said is like a dark soy sauce, but it’s thicker. I didn’t get the name of that. Thanks for sharing.
Love hainanese chicken so will definitely try this recipe. It’s amazing to me how the Chinese have influenced the cuisine of many countries. BTW, the “t” is “pestle” isn’t pronounced like in “castle”.
😮I thought you were from San Francisco. 😅 I’m originally from California. The Bay Area. Transplanted to Idaho. (Retired)🥳 I love your videos and recipes. Thank you for your videos ❤
Very good video and recipe. In some of your videos you don't call the Instant Pot by name and have a piece of tape over the name on the pot. Was there a legal issue? Please don't be offended by my asking. I enjoy your videos very much.
This roasted chicken rice is so tasty, it’s now the kids’ favourite way to eat chicken. Happy Sunday! 💕
Happy Sunday to you, too!
Mortar is the bowl. Pestle is the pounder! Greetings from East Texas! Drooling as I watch 🥰
TY!
My cat says ‘hi’ to your kitty. Lol. This dish looks wonderful.
Making this this evening! Loved hearing your kitties call for food, probably smells delightful to them. After years, still love this channel Flo and Dude!
Omgoodness Flo! This chicken was awesome and I had enough for lunch the next day and it was even better! Thank you!
I love it when your cat enters the video. I have quite a few cats so the meowing is familiar and oddly soothing. Your recipe sounds delicious. My daughter in law will enjoy it with me. Thanks so much guys for sharing!✌️✌️💜💜🙏🙏😺😺
I’m a South African of cape Malay decent. Love your recipe. Tip: use a teaspoon to peel your ginger.
Salam saudara/saudari.
You are a lucky man because your wife is such a good cook! Wish I had this system 40 years ago when we were living abroad! Thanks for sharing.

I could be wrong, I am often wrong, but I think the mortar is the bowl and the pestle is the pounder. Mahalo for your educational videos!
Salute to you for your amazing cooking,it is mouthwatering, thanks.😋👌
I’ll be trying this! I love chicken period 👏. Hubby, not too much 😂. My mom used to tell me I would turn into a chicken….chicken is so versatile 🎉😊
Another great recipe Flo. I like to add a tsp. of sesame seed oil to the ginger/scallion sauce. I noticed that Dude is a true Malaysian eating with fork & spoon lah!
I had already taken a chicken 1/4 out for dinner. I'm making my paste now for under the skin. That looks so yummy!
I LOVE your recipes and your chatty cats
It's funny how as a fellow Canadian, I was like "Oh, $9 is a good score for that chicken!" Groceries are so expensive here, thanks for another delicious, affordable meal!

Glory thanks for the wonderful recipes. I have found a new found love for cooking!!!❤️❤️👍🏾
There’s an old saying that is easy to remember….the pestle is NOT the vessel 😂So it’s the pounding tool ❤🇦🇺

Yes, we also called them English cucumbers here in Florida, and also in Pennsylvania where I live perilously.

Flo, 4 legs for $9 is steep but comparing to the restaurant food price, you still come out way ahead!
AND they are on sale!!! 😩😩😩
This looks so tasty. Yum! 😋
The dish looks amazing and relatively quick to prepare.

Watching from Canada. Thanks for sharing this recipe and it is good for THANKSGIVING DAY. I have a new recipe to do.

I googled it: "

I love that ginger and scallion sauce. Can even eat it with rice without the chicken. 😅
Hi Flo and Dude that chicken 🍗🐔 looks Amazing ♥️

I wish you would’ve showed a list of the different sauces that you are using. The one that you said is like a dark soy sauce, but it’s thicker. I didn’t get the name of that. Thanks for sharing.
The pestle is the hand held grinding thingy.
Love hainanese chicken so will definitely try this recipe. It’s amazing to me how the Chinese have influenced the cuisine of many countries. BTW, the “t” is “pestle” isn’t pronounced like in “castle”.
Heerlijk en zo eenvoudig top hoor👏👏👍👍
Excellent
Yummy recipe. 👍
😮I thought you were from San Francisco. 😅 I’m originally from California. The Bay Area. Transplanted to Idaho. (Retired)🥳
I love your videos and recipes. Thank you for your videos ❤
We did live in San Francisco for several years but have been back in Canada for 20 years now. 🇨🇦
That *Canadian disclosure certainly explains their _disturbingly pleasant_ demeanor. 😉 (FYI, I'm checking in from the 510 area code.)
If your just using a normal cup do you still use equal party rice and chicken broth and do you remove all the strach off the rice before you cook it
This dish sounds delicious. The only problem I have is I cannot have oyster sauce. What can I do to make this dish?
The mortar is the bowl and the pestle is the mashing tool. Pestle is pronounced, pes' sel, and the t is silent, at least in the US it is...
How would you do it if your airfryer only goes up to 200 degrees
Very lucky husband !
could you have grated the shallot instead?
I grated everything and turned out great. Didn't have pestle.
Yum...❤🎉
Very good video and recipe. In some of your videos you don't call the Instant Pot by name and have a piece of tape over the name on the pot. Was there a legal issue? Please don't be offended by my asking. I enjoy your videos very much.
Thanks, Michael… They were not the best at good business practices so I am not so willing to give them free promotion.
@@FloLum ok. Thank you. Have a blessed day.
Forget smell-o-vision, I want taste-o-vision!😛
Are you singapore or malaysia origin before moving to canada?
The pestle is the stick part - and the T is silent. :)
I have tried the receipt but the drumstick part not cook at all 😅. I followed the cooking times doesn't work for me using also Philips airfryer. .
$9.00 wow! organic or from farmer's market?
Are you asking because it’s still so much?? Not organic… from the regular supermarket on SALE even. Everything is so much more expensive here. 🇨🇦😩
The first person I saw put seasoning under the skin of a roast bird was Martha Stewart. So you’re in good company :)
Don’t forget Chef John.
Dude the taste jè 2023
Mortar = half a food processor. Pestle = the other half. Seriously, I haven’t chopped or minced anything by hand since the 1980s 😂
🤣
I’m sure you’ve told us before, but I’ve forgotten - what are ‘pandan’ (spelling?) leaves?
They are large fragrant leaves used in southeast Asian cooking. Used in both savory and sweet recipes.
