    I already knew this. But the stubborn man in me wanted to just use the factory locations. But later I would be complaining that I should have done what you recommend here in your video. Thank you. Because I consider you knowledgeable and credible , I will order some tweeter mounting pods, because I want that, and I have always wanted that amazing sound stage you describe in my vehicle. Thanks for this video and for showing examples and for reminding me how to aim them. I'm already subscribed, but I will add my thumbs up after posting this comment.
    Again, thank you.

    More & more tweeters are being packaged with factory adjustable free-standing mounts. Even my inexpensive Power Acoustik NB4s came with them & they sound FANTASTIC.

    I just got Valicar pods for Focal TNB tweeters. In addition to what you've shown, they have ball joints which allow precise aiming.

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  Před rokem

      Yes! They really have a great variety. We have used the ball joint mount as well, but visually for some clients, that is sometimes a harder sell. Which style did you go with? For what kind of car?

      @@carstereochick I have a 2022 Nissan LEAF. I have put Dayton Audio RS265P drivers in the doors and will be adding the Focal TNB tweeters with a Kicker KEY200.4 amp in active crossover mode.

      @@carstereochick This is my first time using DSP or anything like the little Kicker amp. 15 years ago I had a nice sounding system in a Camry: Focal coaxials in the dash with a Focal mini-sub under the seat driven by Audio Control non-DSP processing and 5 amp channels. At some point I will likely be thinking about subs for my LEAF, maybe a pair of Dayton Audio RS265HF 8 inch subs in stereo (yes!). I want something musical, not just thumpy.

    I have installed those pods in my sons Impala.
    There really high quality! Lots of adjustability. I did get them through eBay.
    I’m hoping if my son sells his car. I’ll repo them and put them in my car.
    Another great share!

    Another good video….tweeter placement is a must! I have 2019 tacoma, i had customer sail panels done to house my tweets and it sounded so MUCH better than factory but when I had my custom A pillars done to house a 2.5 midrange and a tweet it took my soundstage to another level!! just by moving the tweeter and having more on axis tweeter placement

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  Před 2 lety

      Thanks Anthony! Yes, great point - if you're doing 3-ways it's so smart to mount them like that and get the mid as close as possible to the tweeter.

      Do you just drill a small hole in the factory tweeter grill? Do you have to reinforce the grill at all due to the weight of the pod/tweeter? I have a 2011 Toyota Camry and am trying to use your best practice for a pair of Kenwood Excelon XR-1603HR.

    So at which angle do I mount these tweeters?!

    • @chippsterstephens6800
      @chippsterstephens6800 Před 3 měsíci +1

      That is a very deep rabbit hole with no simple answer, with the pods you can get swivels so they are adjustable, every driver is different some are best on axis, some are not, and to really understand how this is working in a car, you need Rta and a calibrated mic. Some common starting placements are on axis for driver, or aimed at opposite head rest, I have found to work well, the hybrids she is running here are fairly forgiving off axis, and have a pretty wide frequency , but only to a point, , and why her system sounded better than the hubbys. She was more in axis, this set works well on axis.
      I run hybrids myself in the same German cups, both mids and tweets, I run them all on axis, pointed at my ear, both sides, mid bass in the front doors, and a morel sub, no rear fill, all active with dsp. I have never owned a better sounding System, a different speaker may not be best on axis. Or it may? You never know till you know, one thing that is a constant though, having the ability to change angles is vital, to find out, the pods do this well, and after you find the best angle for that driver, in that car, then a custom A-pillar could be done and match the angles. Without spending a bunch on fab, only to find out it made phase or comb filter issues….sorry no simple answer exists.

    Hello! I just ordered a set of these for a 3.5 Utopia WM and the TBM tweeter, I’m curious as to how long it took for them to come in? It’s been 7 days now and I’ve tried to email them for a check in and I haven’t heard anything back. I got the express shipping and my installer is wondering when they will come in. If you have any information that would be greatly appreciated! Wonderful video.

    • @carstereochick

      Whenever I order them I pay extra for faster UPS shipping, but even that usually takes about 10-14 days. If you use the regular shipping service it could be much longer.

      You have to be patient. They are slow. Really slow, but eventually you will get your pods. Mine took about a month after placing my eBay order to get to me. Make sure you get all the hardware you're supposed to get. I got a set of mids/tweeters and they did not include the set screws for the tweeters. They're kind of slow to respond to mail, too, so keep that in mind.

    The pods look clean, eliminate fab work, and work for Soundstage but I prefer moulded pods. I just think moulded pods look better when designed properly than prefab. Just my preference of course.

    • @carstereochick
      @carstereochick  Před 2 lety +1

      I agree molded pods look better, but also more $ too ;)

    • @chuckschillingvideos
      @chuckschillingvideos Před rokem

      I've seen some extremely bad molded pods. Buyer beware. One negative to pods is they are very limiting in how much flexibility you have in aiming your speakers. This is a real problem if you are setting up the soundstage specifically for the driver.

      Yeah, you know I have been itching to check out the new Rockford Jeep full system upgrade. Rockford is definitely a great quality brand, but we are such a small shop and I can only support so many brands. I have nothing against them. For my 1st system I had a Punch 250a2 and 12" ported box with a Punch subwoofer. That was back when they made everything in the USA!
