I think he feared himself above all. With much time reflect on his past deeds and constantly being reminded of his failures, i think his ultimate fear was that he could have not become this monster that he currently was, but he was too far down that path to stop it now and had to continue forward.
I agree that he feared himself because of the struggle he dealt with his whole life…. Between being a slave as a child with no father then having become a Jedi and feeling like they betrayed him before becoming Vader. Then the struggle of being tormented by his failures and fueled by his hatred and rage for the Jedi. Losing Padme and to his knowledge his kid/s. Then finding out his kids are alive and that they won’t give in to the dark side probably broke him knowing that he made the wrong choice and upon seeing Luke almost die realizing he made another terrible choice but at least he died knowing he saved his son
Yes,Darth Vader Feared No One,Not Even the Emperor..
Yeah, but he kept his mind off it by staying busy with hobbies. Ya know…killing Jedi, blowing up planets, hacking up rebels, etc.
highly agree! Vader/Anakin was heavily ambitious after his young years as chosen one in Jedi Order, where everything went smooth and he did develop quick..But he hit kind of peak, where the power was already related more to knowing the situation/circumstances seeing things from overview, which he was badly failing at, despite Obi-Wans teaching...
That is the tragedy of Anakin Skywalker to me...Not learning from Obi-Wan the stuff he should, only looking to overcome his master and his Soresu skill, but leaving everything important unnoticed....That is why I kind of dislike Anakin/Vader as Jedi/Sith.
“It is too late for me, son…” *Gestures stormtroopers over*
I think it's interesting that Darth Vader is a sith lord. The character did give into evil, most likely researched sith lore and built his castle on Mustafa. Yet, he was always stuck in a subordinate situation. A sith lord lusts after power and wields it completely. So, sticking to canon, Darth Vader was not only the last of the sith, but also an entirely unique case as others have mentioned??
I think is because the dude fell not for lust of power, but for fear of losing the ones he loved. And that happen, so he fell even more, the more pain, the more power. Also Anakin was a slave, and then an jedi aka religius estrict cult member. So he never was really free in his life.
The kenobi series made vader lose his fear of kenobi.
Remember Kreia: the true definition of strength is to give up power not your own. Think of Darth Nihilus and Scion, they were extremely powerful, yet that very power enslaved them. Nihilus's power was vast, yet it was more a hunger than his own will. Scion held onto pain, giving him pretty much immortality so as long he was in pain, unable to shake the constant agony that was his life, similar to Vader. Sith who do not learn the true lesson of strength, and of power, end up becoming slaves to their own power. Vader is much the same, shackled by his own guilt, depression, and pain. His entire existence was similar to Scion where there was never a moment of reprieve, but constant reminders of his agonizing life unable to let go of the force. The force simultaneously liberated and enslaved in accordance to one's own will. Reliance on power that doesn't come from the self is weakness, no matter how strong one's connection to the force may be, or what feats they can do with it. Whether it was to the Jedi, the force, Darth Sidious, or his own mind, Vader/Anakin was always a slave until the love for his own son saved him.
FALSE Darth Vectivus did not seek domination conquest or absolute power he was a kind and generous sith Lord who had many friends and died surrounded by loved ones and family in bed from old age and mastered the sith version of force ghost

He should be afraid of Disney and KK, for they could write his character off to mediocrity in a few minutes, like they did to his son.

Vader is often portrayed as very in control. Although we all know that his mind is twisted, we don’t really see it very often. One example is when he meets Ahsoka in Rebels; the conflict is so palpable. Or the comic where tries to go back to the past via a time portal (is it the momin series?).
In Darth Vader:Dark Lird of the Sith Novel, Vader and Sidious argued, and Sidious told him, " Be thankful Yoda didn't show up...." when Vader was complaining about the Obi Wan battle
That makes sense. While individually I don't think yoda stands much of a chance against him the 2 of them together would overwhelm Vader
@@deadend1041 yoda would toy with vader on his best day. He stalemated palps

Excellent Video Essay
Love the analysis on Vader needing Sidious. It’s true, he never seemed to fear the Emperor in the traditional sense even though that’s where the mind goes first.
In legend he fear him
@@amoghsawant3801 Legends isn't canon so it doesn't count
I think the psyche of Darth Bane, Darth Revan, or Darth Maul would be interesting as far as Sith go. Though, I would also like to see one on certain Jedi as well such as Ashoka or Quinlin Voss.
i feel the fear he felt towards losing sidius (and his only purpose) helps add a bit more depth to his actions in Episode 6. having learned during his duel with Luke that his children survived, he would have realized that he still had something other the empire left for him, that a part of Padme was still alive. seeing Palpatine attempting to kill his own flesh and blood, seeing Luke beg Anakin to save him would have probably triggered what ever of Anakin was left in him to act.
You would think he would fear Luke because he is the son of the Chosen One being himself, which means that he has the potential become what he could have been which is the Most Powerful Force User in the Galaxy. So, the Idea of someone else other than Vader Training him like Obi-Wan, Darth Maul, or any other Force User training him could be a real threat to Vader's Plans and reign of power! Also, Yoda is still out there, so he is also a threat!
Yeah, but Vader does not operate like other Sith Lords. He cares more for his family then power, even if the line got pretty blurred early on. Palpatine definitely feared Luke for that exact reason. I think Vader more feared his son would drag him back to the light.
he's not the chosen one they tought he was and where obviously wrong I guess Rey is supposed to be.😂or the profecy has not been fulfilled yet or just forgotten by shity Disney writers

And when he learned of his son, the fear or losing everything reduced, opening him back to the light. Finally, he had another purpose.
Darth Vader did not have legitimate grounds to hate Obi-Wan. Anakin was responsible for his own fall to the Dark Side. He let himself be manipulated by Palpatine. Darth Vader clearly respected his former master as he was obsessed with him. He kept mentioning him even after he killed him and beating Obi-Wan was important to him.
Yeah, but blame is always so much easier.

I think it’s very interesting the feelings that Vader had towards Palpatine. That he was somewhat of a father figure to him. Stands to reason that if he knew about Luke and Leia sooner then he did, possibly Vader could’ve turned back to the light knowing that he wasn’t alone. He had a son and a daughter. Of course Luke did eventually turn Vader in ROTJ but it’s interesting to think what could have been.
He would have raised and trained them in the ways of the Dark side and overthrow Palpatine, taking control of the Galaxy. Vader wanted this as far back as to when Padme was still alive.
@@iwasanMBTInerd Your statement would indicate that Vader knew about Leia and Luke. If so how come he never looked for them?
@@flyingtiger1603 he didn't know nor did Isaac imply that. It's just that before obi-wan showed up on mustafar, vader was planning on overthrowing palpatine and making the empire his. Thus he would have probably raised his children as worthy successors trained in his ways.
Edit: he was even already calling it "his empire" while talking to obi-wan.
How could he not known they were alive, when he's apparently so skilled with the force? Plot hole.
That last episode on Kenobi was incredible, Ioved all of those episodes, in fact The Mandolorian and Bobba fett were wonderful too
If Kenobi was anything like the book, it ended just as it was getting good lol
can we get a "Ahsoka" Lightsaber explaination? Who made her OG Green and what happened to them? Are the ones she wields now the same ones Anakin made for her? Can she sense him through the sabers and is why she doesnt use them frequently? I love the questions more than the answers. :D
what is the outro music of this video? I love it
I think at the time of Empire Strikes Back, when he believes Luke can aid him in overthrowing Palpatine, that fear of losing Palpatine was gone. This shift in purpose also reflected his original goal in RoTS to become powerful enough to overthrow Palpatine and rule with his family. But after sustaining life altering injuries in the duel with Obi Wan, all of this changed, and his fear of losing his new purpose to serve Palpatine took hold. But again, all of this changed when he discovered Luke.
You don't know if he was lying just to get Luke to climb down off the scaffold. 😄
He always feared the ability he had to always be Darth Vader. You could sense it throughout. When he finally turned and killed Palpatine to save his son, the fear that he could be Darth Vader melted away and he found peace in turning to the light.
Brah the cuts in these videos are sick
Very interesting how you put it. Vader both loved and feared his master....
If you think about it Vader only turned on Palpatine when he had something else to go to…. His son
There was also a mercenary that turned himself into a nightmarish monster that spooked Vader and made him freeze for a split second.
What video includes this I wanna see it
@@vqstudios2408 just look up who scared Darth Vader and it should be the first result
love how vader would hold his breath to seek up on you then ignite the crimson blade total badass
Qui-Gon should have been Anakin's master, which was why Palpatine sent Darth Maul to kill him. With Gon gone, Palpatine was able to groom Anakin, since Kenobi dissed him whenever he took the initiative.
Palpatine knew Kenobi questioned Gon constantly; Gon the maverick who was the difference between the survival and fall of the Jedi, who had become arrogant, pedantic, and complacent. Kenobi sure as hell would snark at his padawan, another maverick. The power of the tongue can build or destroy.
Vader didn't just fear Kenobi's power and resourcefulness; his words cut.
Vadar is as surely bound to Palpatine as the nine kings to the One Ring. Once a slave, again a slave. Palpatine made sure of that. That way, Vader couldn't kill him, as Palpatine had his own master, until Palpatine abandoned him for Luke.
A video about Vader vulnerabilities would be nice.
Like...is he truly vulnerable when on a bacta tank?
100% agree spot on 👌
I wonder if we will ever see anakins force ghost communicating at some point maybe in a new series or something 🤷🏽♂️ can’t really think of any circumstance where it would fit into current story.. but it would be cool too see but just my opinion 🤘🏼

What is the name of that awesome music at the end?
I agree with the first two fears, but I think a 3rd and most powerful one was Anakin Skywalker. He feared the return of the light side.
He fulfilled his duty as the chosen one, and brought balance..killed off most of the jedi leaving only himself and the emperor and Kenobi with Yoda...
Yes, exactly. This has been my thought for decades. The BIG 4, and then came along the Inquisitors and Jedi in hiding later on but yes , a scale measures balance. If you have 2 oz on one side of the scale and 128 oz on the other side it is not balanced. The 2 strongest on both sides, that's what I call balance.
Also the twins, keeping the balance as well
Your video makes a lot of sense, especially about Palpatine, how he didn't fear his power but rather the potential loss of him and the collapse of the Empire. Makes a lot of sense, without the Empire he had nothing and was nothing. Without his suit he was just a cripple. Without the Empire there would exist no resources to maintain his suit.
Before looking at the video, sand and fire came to my mind first..

I'll save you the classic stupendous wave video where he drones on about a topic for way longer than needed. It's Obi-Wan & Palpatine
Yoda told Anakin..."you must learn to let go of what you fear to lose "
I can see him fearing sidious as sidious is or was the last person he had left after losing padé and thinking both his children died with her. Also naturally fearing OBI-Wan do to a constant state of PTSD on the events taking place on mustafar, and OBI-Wan has a purely defensive duelist making him a difficult opponent.
People don’t realize just how much a good defense can be the best offense especially in fights/duels. With darth vaders being mostly bionic now those limbs have to be taxing on his body so his best chance of defeating OBI-Wan would be as quickly as possible. But knowing that OBI-Wan is a defensive duelist makes it harder to confront him for vader as he needs to make sure he can get past OBI-WANs guard as quickly as possible to defeat him. If not he fights over before it begins.
As we all saw on the show OBI-Wan when they did duel vader was aggressive and didn’t let up because he wanted to keep OBI-Wan off guard. In my opinion vader was way too arrogant in thinking he’d just let OBI-Wan go and fight another day because it will ultimately be his downfall in the coming episodes making him fear OBI-Wan even more then he already does.
When they do eventually face one another for the last time vader was eager to face him because of their age gap and knew he was too weak to last in an on going duel like his defensive style of dueling requires. So he saw it as his opportunity to finally be rid of OBI-Wan.
Sidious for fear of losing the only person that helped him when he was “down” more like persuaded him into turning but that’s besides the point. That is until like came around and he finally started to turn back into anikan slowly finding himself, visions of padé coming back to him, and him needing to make a choice, his own flesh and blood, or sidious. Naturally he chose his son over anyone else because of his visions of padé, his love for his own family, and not wanting to lose another valuable person in his life so close to him.
That’s my theory anyways. 🤷♂️
Regarding the show - I dont think Vader let ObiWan go in any arrogant type of way. I think Vader let him go, because he wasn't a challenge. He had been dreaming for 10 years of revenge, and wasn't getting fulfillment from defeating him quickly. He needed either Obi Wan to level up a little to give him some revenge satisfaction, find out how to hurt him in other ways, or make the hunt last longer to get more satisfaction.
Darth Garth: We are not worthy, we are not worthy!
I believe if Yoda had the chance to confront Vader that would have been the 3rd person at that time to scare Vader. But sadly did not happen 😒.

God i HOPE in the series we see Anakin with no head gear but just his mouthpiece like you show here. i HOPE Disney and Lucas realize THAT is what fans want to see through out the Obi Wan series
A lot of time people didn’t even say his name for fear that doing so might make him show up like Satan. “It’s him.” …oh shit.

if it’s not the emperor and kenobi i’m gonna be salty
Vader fearing Obi Wan shoul be no supprise. It was Obi Wan who dismembered him, let him burn on Mustafar, reduced him to a limbless burned torso in a mobile torture chamber.
Sidious held Vader's leash in every way possible. He made Vader dependent on him, installed fear in him by pretending to be Vader's only friend in the galaxy, put him in his place on a regular bases and making him realize that he (the Emperor) can end him any time he wants.
Despite all his power Vader wasn't strong enough to overthrow Sidious by himself and without Luke he would've stayed Sidious's slave for ever.
The pic at 4.40 looks more like loki as vader than anything else
Yes, Vader was in a pretty unique situation among the Sith. If he beat Palpatine ... it could be approx. no one will follow him. Palptaine was a politician ... blooded
. Which means he did a lot of favors for other powerful individuals and he needed thier support. These were committed to him, not to Vader. Vader would probably have really lost everything without Palapatine. Thus, however, the Sith philosophy of the disciple-master relationship did not really worked.
Yall make me chuckle going so in depth to this stuff lol. Especially now, with how little Disney cares about realism and canon. All this brain storming is completely pointless while Disney owns SW, as characters and story will change for whatever reason they want regardless of what would realistically happen.
ok loafer
Thats true Palpatine probably did all the behind the scenes work including boring paper work that requires to run an empire and once he's done the Empire would probably fall and Vadar would truly have nothing left
Could you do a video on what anakin's mother thought of anakin becoming vader
She's dead though?
There is another Darth Vader feared & he's called Force Ghost Jar Jar.
Hey stupendous wave I’m a big fan of your videos I’m also a big Star Wars fan and I have an idea I would love to see a fan what if scenario if anakin survived the duel with obi wan with out getting burned our crippled and left mustafar with Padame too the outer rim and trained for 4 years then came back too kill darth sidious and clame his Throne as ruler of the galaxy neither a Jedi our a sith but the true embodiment of both the dark and light side of the force and he has both Luke and leia at his side both traind from birth by him
I think that a good video would be after the empire fell and the new republic were the victors and Luke Skywalker started his new Jedi and the returning survivors of order 66 which ones joined the new jedi order and which ones were skeptical of a Skywalker leading it
What's the music used in this video ?
I always think of Yoda as well, if palatine feared him I think he would as well
In the thumbnail he's actually got a harmonica. This is during Darth's folk period before he went full electric inventing empirical boogaloo style in the process.

I'm glad the Obi Wan series showed the full extent of there fight in the last episode, makes sense why Vader would be scared of Obi Wan as he could've killed him again but didn't
He could’ve killed him twice. You wouldn’t be scared to kill him you’d love him deep down to not kill him
So Cool
I was a little bit confused with your logic for Darth Sidious is because throughout films and books Vader tries to find ways to overthrow Sidious. Weather through Starkiller or getting a loop to try to join him in the empire strikes back
we will find out soon

I wondered that Vader feared OBI WAN and PALPATINE bc they were the men that guided his force way: Kenobi as a Jedi and Sidious as a Sith.and I can deduce that his force was frightful for Vader
I believe his fear of Obi-Wan stems from his loss on Mustafar. He’s in constant pain and agony because of Kenobi.
Whereas with Palpatine, I think it’s a lack of confidence. He doesn’t believe he can beat the Emperor alone. Palpatine said himself that Vader’s greatest weakness was his mind.
