      @@classicminidiy it's just the cost that's holding me back, do you think it's possible to make a build similar to yours in terms of power for max 3500-4000?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  Před rokem +1

      I am sure it can be done around that price but you are likely not going to be able to push the engine to 200hp. Part of what makes the power possible is building out the bottom end and the clutch. Also ensuring your charge temps stay really low with an intercooler or charge cooler. Its certainly not impossible to make amazing numbers around that price point but I think overall its gonna be a tight budget at 3.5-4k. Lots of folks make 150-170 all day with a 1275 and a GT17 but the motor has to be built to handle it.

Do you have a video or a buying checklist of what components I are needed to go from that to SPI or MPI whichever you have, and to the turbo conversion? Congrats Cole! A long way from futzing around trying to make the supercharger work eh!? Hey, I don't remember what your numbers were with the carb. How much did you gain with the FI and being able to really dial in the fueling?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  Před rokem +2

      Thanks Brian! Long road from the supercharger! The numbers with the carb were 173hp and similar torque. Part of what unlocked all this extra power was the much higher level of control over timing we have with the EFI. It can/could be done with a carb but its much more work and much more specialized in terms of experience needed.

  • @alfonsodelgardeo2422
    @alfonsodelgardeo2422 Před rokem

    Nice work and nice Mini. I fuel injected my Mini engine 25 years ago by creating a throttle body out of a gutted 1-3/4" SU. It looked a bit "Heath Robinson", but it worked well. I'm sure that we just fired the 2 injectors at the same time, so I'm questioning why you are firing 1 injector at a time (unless your injectors are so large that you would get too much fuel at low rpm/power)?

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  Před rokem

      Hey! Sorry for the delay in response. I went back and forth about firing both at the same time but with the size of my injectors I had to alternate them. I chose larger injectors so I wouldn't be limited at the top end and to avoid dead time issues but when I did that it meant that if I fired them in a batch config it would overfuel at lower RPM. So you have it pretty much on point for the reasoning why I went with alternating. :-) Your setup sounds like it was really cool I like the idea of it looking like a carb but actually being fuel injected.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  Před rokem +1

      Yeah if you go back through some of the previous videos on this build in the turbo playlist I cover it in detail but the whole gear set is upgraded to an EVO helical gearset that’s rated for the power. It has an ATB LSD. The weakest part at this point is the drop gears as they are still original but I don’t want straight cut drops.

      Honestly I have owned this car for over 13 years and I rebuilt the engine NA originally. It started as a 1293 high compression build. It was tons of fun but now that I have gone EFI and turbo I can never go back. The engine doesn't sound any different to me aside from the turbo specific noises which I absolutely love! Couldn't you technically splice a second wire onto each injector to use a standard injection sequence with some tweaks? It would basically inject at the correct time, just instead of sending a signal to 4 different injectors, it would send to each of the two injectors twice.

    • @classicminidiy
      @classicminidiy  Před rokem

      Technically this is an alternative way to achieve what I am doing through the Haltech software. In fact what you're describing is how SX Tune that Specialist Components configure their injectors. If your ECU limits the way you can configure it in the software this is the next best way to do it.

    • @Dagowly83
      @Dagowly83 Před rokem

      Technically you can, but you can back feed the ecu, which isn't great. The D400 does it, but haltech allows you to do it in the software.

    @TheThunderwars Před 11 měsíci

    I'm sorry Cole, I know that it sounds good but there is absolutely no way you are making that much power with that config and this fuel. If you were really making 200 bhp around 6000rpm, that means the torque would be enough to obliterate the gearbox when you even think of approaching your throttle. If you have the standard helical gearbox and drop gears, you either have destroyed the gearbox in a few dozen miles, or, more probably, you are not making near as much power as this dyno is telling you. 150 to 170 max sounds about right. And even there, you will destroy your gearbox rapidly if it has not straight cut gears and drop gears to reduce axial loads.
