    Really helpful tool/advice; I work with a lot of 20-somethings and help them create a healthy financial future. Often the topic purchasing their first family car comes up - I regularly use your videos when I send them buying recommendations!
    One word of caution: buyers are often shocked by difference between the sticker price and the out the door price. In your scenario, if a family has a $22,000 budget, they're probably going to have to target vehicles at or below $19,000 after tax, registration, etc. depending on the state that they live in and I'm never going to recommend that they finance a vehicle for a longer period than they plan on owning it.

    I have a “cool mom” car now, but before this I drove a base model Toyota Sienna that we bought used, and I LOVED that thing! Like you said, even though it was a base model, it had backup cam, lane assist, adaptive cruise control, etc and the awd was great in snow (I live in Alaska). Even though I really love my new Jeep Grand Cherokee L… I do miss the sliding doors and and coziness of the minivan sometimes 😊

    Please do not finance a used car for 72 months. If for whatever reason you have to sell it before those 6 years are up, the chance of having negative equity on the car (especially with no trade-in and no money down) is very high. Even moreso with a 9% interest rate. 5 years max for used cars, those 12 extra payments on a 72m loan screw you over.

    • @lartstnc
      @lartstnc Před 2 měsíci

      By the end of that 60 months your car is worthless. Driving til the wheels fall off is terrible, because most people walk in to the dealer with $0 saved for the day the wheels proverbially fall off. Then most people are not even doing their own basic maintenance which adds to the cost@@bastian_baron

    Financing with a capped monthly payment is kind of foolish because dealerships manipulate buyers for them to pay way more in the long run. 9% interest on a 6 year loan is HORRIBLE.

      Check out IIHS testing and statistics. You should know that at one point Toyota was caught only structurally reinforcing the driver's side and not the passenger's. Many manufacturer's also have not put as many safety measures in the rear seat belts as the front and sort of just got caught on that with new testing also. The Honda CRV did very poorly in regards to rear seats in the new testing.

    Baby Boomers would never be convinced that buying a used car with 100,000 miles on it…….is a good investment…the biggest maintenance costs happen after that 100,000 mark. Plus the interior after that amount of mileage is pretty shitty too. Outside of a home and collage education, the 3rd biggest expense is cars. We would never swallow that pill…. Thousands of dollars for a run down vehicle that most likely needs to be inspected by a third party if they are not Certified…..so why should a Gen X or Gen Y or Gen Z used car buyers be told otherwise? We, the people of ALL generations, call a spade a spade and call out the BS. Car Industry is out of control!! It’s unattainable! Leasing for now!
