    As a Polish woman it’s always exciting to see a video about my birth country or it’s citizens.
    A tip for Polish surnames: a woman’s ends with “a” and a man’s with “i”. So her first husband was Walewski .
    There are exceptions of course

    What a great female diplomat, she did, I feel have feelings for Napoleon but her love of her country outweighed everything. She is one smart woman, men use war to win, women use their minds. She is amazing! She was married off to an old man, did her duty then helped Poland stay independent. I don’t think she did it unless she felt feelings for Napoleon but her heart was also nationalistic. I love the Polish people, they are hardworking and love their country. She is the matriarch of the country.
    Hope one day I visit Poland, this story makes me want to even more! ❤️

    It always amuses me how even to this day people believe the false narrative that Napoleon was short. He himself was nearly 6 ft, standing at 5 feet 8 inches tall. He had a strict height requirement for his personal guardsmen. They had to meet the minimum height of
    6 ½ feet tall.
    The result is the ILLUSION that he was a short man because he was never without his guards nearby.

      Also not quite correct - the French measured differently, so today people look at his height without taking that into account.

      @@helenjoy3645 for back in the day, malnutrition so common, it was probably considered tall. idk if you ever lived in an area that had the same, but I lived in a rich part of CT some years back, just as a wave of Ecuadorian immigrants came thru, they were all being hired to build these really nice stone walls, EVERY rich person got them and they were crazy expensive so, it supported this decent sized work force for a few years there. But most of those dudes were like 5 foot 2 max, from childhood malnutrition

      Yeah you realize it really is a skill or talent or smth if and when you ever stumble over some random 4 updoot video, I've seen them of random people trying their hand at making SCP videos...
      Most just don't have the skill. Voices are hard to understand, pacing all wrong, no emotion, no proper inflections, hard to follow.
      I actually feel bad when I stumble over those, like, here's somebody hoping they can maybe do this thing, but no, it just ain't in the cards for them!

    Absolutely loved this story. I had a deep discussion some years ago with my Polish agent on Napoleon. It seems (by his story) there is great love/appreciation for him in Poland even now as well as disappointment (typical human nature). Much intrigued by this incredible man as well as his loves. My feeling is that the latest Hollywood movie does not do justice to him. I am a stalwart Josephine fan here for many reasons (including an emotional visit to Malmaison) so love these stories. Beautiful presentation! Best wishes to you from Northern California ❤🤍💙

    A few mistakes. Maria Walewska was from nobility but not aristocracy. Her father's last name was Mateusz Łączyński, not Łączyńska as you said. In the Polish language surnames ending with -ski and -cki changing to -ska and -cka for women. Similarly, her first husband was Walewski, not Walewska.

    I've watched this chanel for a while and the pronunciation always astonishes me , however as a polish speaker i can give you a very simple direction whenever saying anything of polish or some slavic orgins . The language is sharper. You can hear the syllables and every letter is pronounced, unlike in english where sounds flow and spill into one another . It can be a barier for some and I'm not too entirely sure where you are from so i can't tell how difficult that may be and I'm not criticising as the way you say it as is , is already perfectly understandable.

    • @williamegler8771
      @williamegler8771 Před 8 měsíci +1

      Why would you expect a native English speaker to be able to pronounce Polish perfectly?
      Especially if they haven't studied the language.
      Are you able to speak English and pronounce words as perfectly as a native English speaker?

    • @martapiatek3207
      @martapiatek3207 Před 4 měsíci

      @@williamegler8771well at least when speaking foreign language you can try... all the teaching of English is about pronouncing words right, close as possible to how a native would, so why not try this with every other language?

    Marie Walewska was a very fascinating and smart woman, but I don’t think Napoleon was in love with her. I think he was fond of her as a person and remained on amicable terms even when their relationship was over, but I think he used her for his own purposes. A lot of legend surrounds these two that has been debunked by historians who believe their first meeting was more prosaic. I don’t want to erase her influence because I do think she was important, but I shy away from the romanticization of her as Napoleon’s “great love”. When he heard about her death on St. Helena, he had a very coarse reaction. This isn’t a criticism of your video, just my personal thoughts.
