    Boy, what a cool device. When I was younger and traveled a lot, they sold a little translator in
    the plane, but not with voice, just display. That was more than 30 years ago. What a great
    little invention. Could have used it in China, Russia, Turkey, France, Italy, Egypt and Mexico.
    All different languages. Now I am too old, I saw a lot of the world when it was cheaper.
    Sure would have liked it back then.

    SOLD! I just ordered one. My wife said “don’t you want to practice what you’ve learned from your Spanish lessons?”. I said I do, but only for casual conversations. I want this available when I shouldn’t rely on my Spanglish - like at custons. 😊

    Thanks for the tip. Looks like a great machine. Just had a quick look at the website. For those thinking of going to places with patchy reception the offline service covers English to: Chinese, Japanese, Korean, French, German, Spanish, Russian.

    JC this looks wonderful. I own the Timekettle WT2 Edge/W3 , but do not like having to use the earbuds. Feels awkward to ask stranger to put something in their ear. I carry around alcohol wipes to clean for other person before asking. This new toy from Timekettle looks much more user friendly for ad-hoc conversations.

    This seems to be a huge improvement over the Earbuds I purchased a little over a year ago... I honestly got tired of the time-lapse and incorrect interpretations. I know enough Spanish to get myself in trouble sometimes... but I could understand what it was saying... just didn't care for the delays and lack of Mexican Spanish which can be SO different from one area to another... I was having a conversation with a guy in Guadalajara about this topic and he explained to me that some terms I was using that are "fine" in Puebla, were NOT acceptable to his area and had a double meaning that outweighed the translation. It's always a bit better to gain understanding of the local language! :) THANK YOU for highlighting these products, Jerry! Always appreciate your views...

    i wonder if it detects the dialects of spanish, like of the maid per say, then continues to translate in that dialect for that episode. And if there are words that it changes on translation for respect of gender or social status of the receiver... tricky in some cultures. Smart device, glad you posted this advertisement.

    Seems like a lesser Google Translate with a physical push-to-talk button (Google Translate conversation mode has an on-screen button). Might we worth $50 USD, but not $150. Flip-phone users might be an exception.

    Jerry , how is the battery life? The ear buds work great but they're a POS because of the battery life. You have to plan your usage of them and make sure they're charged when you need them.

    • @JCTravelStories
      @JCTravelStories  Před 26 dny +1

      I have not used it enough to run down the battery, so I can't really answer your question. I can tell you the manual says it’s a 1500mah battery which physically would not fit in an ear bud, so my expectation would be it’s better. Also, I know that even with a phone if it’s constantly searching for a Wi-Fi signal in a poor signal area it drains the battery. Being able to download a language pair for offline translation and putting it in airplane mode would eliminate Wi-Fi searching.

      No I don't know, but unless you're a world traveler who will visit more than 8 countries, you can download several language combinations before your year is up. And if you are that world traveler …. Do you need to ask about the price? :)

    I just got mine after watching this video. The off line translation are not very accurate and the on line only translates English to Spanish. If i speak spanish it speaks back in spanish. Trying to find trouble shooting already and ive only had it 2 hours......not impressed........ update tried troubleshooting for several hours. Online translation does not work. English to Spanish works....but Spanish to English does not. This must be defective.....returning product and will not get another one. It was $250.00 Canadian and I will not spend that kind of money on something that is defective on first purchase. It was too good to be true in my case........must be a quality control problem (made in China)

      I'm sorry you had trouble Brenda. Mine worked well just as you saw it the video and I've used it a lot since the video. I've tried practicing my own Spanish and it has trouble understanding my Spanglish accent, but it totally understands my Mexican friends and translates well. The off line language file is not Mexican, it’s Spain Spanish. The online function has an option for Mexican Spanish. It’s $135 USD …I didn't know the Canadian dollar has dropped that much. WOW!
