The man goes from playing a hot tempered Brooklyn bus driver to a southern sheriff, and plays each role so CONVINCINGLY! He was a much more gifted actor than he ever got credit for.

I worked for a general aviation parts supplier in Atlanta in 1976, and one day these two guys came in looking for parts to repair a hydraulic hose assembly. I asked what aircraft it was on, and they told me it was a hydraulic line for a "camera lift".
Turned out they were in the local area south of the airport making a movie called "Smokey and the Bandit". I told them I hadnt heard about it, and they replied that it starred Burt Reynolds, Jackie Gleason, Sally Field, and Jerry Reed, and that is was going to be released in 1977. I told them I would keep an eye out for it...
I've seen it now about 35 times...

I got my old man to watch this when he was about 80 Years old. I handed him a box of cleanex before it started. He said what the hell is this for!!!! At one point he was bent over laughing so hard with tears rooling down his face and the only words he had the breath to say was Oh Fuck! Mom and I were not sure the old man wasn't going to choke to death! (she was not in much better condition!)
