Absolutely loved the interview! Mr. Taira is so humble and it's very interesting to see their way of life. I wrote the secrets down so I could remember them better:
1. Low sodium intake
2. DNA
3. Consume a lot of shikuwasa
4. Treasures of the sea
5. Eating quality pork
6. Living stress free
7. The sea breeze
8. Active lifestyle
9. Having an ikigai
10. Equal relationship
11. Improving dietary habits
I think the combination of having fresh air from the sea, fresh local products and a sense of purpose or loving life definitely are the tree main components to a long life. I wish you all a nice day and hopefully we get another video soon ^^

I'm Brazilian, but my father's family comes from Okinawa. My grandpa just turned 86, he loves living close to the sea and Brazil's climate is mostly hot throughout the year.
His diet is very different from Brazilian people, even though he has been here for so many years. But I never paid to much attention to that, now coming to think of it, I'll try my best to keep similar habits 😅

Thanks Aki,im really enjoying an insight into Japan as well from your vids! I want to visit. My Nan is 96 ,lives independently, shes English. Im not sure what contribute to her longevity ,she had breast cancer in her seventies,and had alot of stress in her life including 2 children dying. She eats quite healthy ,cooks for herself ,little meat,more fish. And she had alot of honey. I think her positive attitude helps,she never complains. About six years ago she got a little cat,this definitely gives her a purpose ..they love each other dearly,and it's a good feeling to care for 'something 'even if its just plants.
My earliest known ancestor is a Japanese Lady in the year 800. Thr women in my family live into their late 90s. I hope that I can also live to a good age and be healthy and vibrant like him.
The salt argument is interesting because in general japanese people are known to consume a lot of salt (through soy sauce, seaweed, pickled vegetables etc).
Studies show that people are happier living near the ocean. When i moved 1500 mi inland I didn't realize how much I'd miss it. 50 years later I'm moving back near the ocean. It's never too late to change one's life.
Heyyy thanks for promoting this! I wish I could have met you. I am one of the few Okinawa longevity experts here in Okinawa, Japan and my whole life and company is about Okinawan longevity, teaching it, and promoting it! There are so many reasons for longevity and they all work in harmony. BUT actually, there are 2 TOP reasons for Okinawan longevity that no one realizes (hint: it is not food) 😁

It is likely that salt intake does not actually matter that much, as long as it is not totally unreasonable, and the diet itself is healthy. You naturally crave for more or less salt. Western diets tends to have more salt in processed meat, chips and such, which are not healthy, then it has been concluded that salt is the unhealthy thing. Processed unhealthy food also tends to have less spices and herbs, then you need to add more salt in order to make it taste good.
Low sodium 😭 I crave salt so much! But I think that might have something to do with my low blood pressure, and side-effects from my epilepsy medications.

This was fun to watch. The women's reactions were fun too. I think having no stress and being active are huge factors in long life!!! Japanese food = good. American food = bad. I do have a lot of my relatives who lived to 90!! I am hoping the same for myself.

At the end 9:37 he also says now they believe more salt is better due to Nagano taking the first spot.
