Honestly shout out to the guy with only 2 years being able to make the weapon in general AND be a decent challenge against someone whos been doing it for 10 years.
this is the best "sword" ive ever seen on the show
I feel that this competition is less about experience, and more of your ability to manage your time and remain calm under pressure. There have been plenty of people who didn't even start bladesmithing until they saw the show, and have won against far more experienced competitors.
Can we appreciate how Doug handles those swords. It’s a full ceremony of pure mutual respect. I love it

Every word in this show is edited. That's the only thing that I hate about it. Feels like they don't want the people to say stuff in their own words...
Just for the record I do believe it was just an editing mistake.
I just want to know why they never show the tempering process on the show...?

I used to work for a TV show as a producer and often times, the people head of the show wanted everything raw. Sometimes you can't say "Can you repeat that?!". I don't know how the producing is done for this show, but I do know that there are muffs occasionally that even an editor can't fix:) There are ways to hide errors, but it's not always caught.

What I like the most about this over other art/food competitions is that 90% of the competition is based on function. It's so much harder to agree on which art or food is better. When you actually see one blade perform better than the other it's so much better.
Also BLOOD
There is a problem of edge alignment though. Even experienced cutter might make a mistake and blade might perform worse just because of that.
@@SwordWieldingDuck a good blade shouldn't break over slight mistakes in edge alignment though
Yeah a lot of stuff comes down to preference. I made some asparagus for Thanksgiving. My mom wasn’t a huge fan of the lemon juice I used where my Aunt thought it was phenomenal. So the question becomes, whose feedback is more valuable or “correct”? At least with something like this, everyone can see your blade bent or got chipped. No subjectivity with that.
This sword looks like the unholy offspring of a talwar, a khukri and a saw .
Plain Evil.

One the most deadly and hardest weapons to build. Great work!
Imagine how difficult this build would be without power tools 🥵
Yeah for sure. I had a hard enough time with modern tools I can’t imagine trying to make one with no power tools!
@@aricfontaine5606 uhm are you one of these guys cause if so I’d love to be friends
@@charlottewalnut3118 I am the winner of this episode yes. It was a super fun build!
@@aricfontaine5606 Hmmm several of these episodes I've looked at the shape and thought to myself "whoever made these in the old days probably used casting to get at least part of the shape created." I'm not really sure how much you actually can do in that regard though. For obvious reasons the end result needs to not be the same as cast iron, but.... that's about what sort of liquid goes into the mold. Hmmm so I end up thinking "does that actually work"?
@@marhawkman303 I doubt they used a mold most of the time. Even without modern power tools there has always been ways to get what shape you want by hand. It just takes more time and practice. In the show you are usually seeing the smith make one for the first time. But if you’ve made dozens of them then you’d probably get extremely fast and efficient at it. Though I have heard stories of swords taking up to a year to make. Also they have had grind stones since ancient times. The power hammer is over 400 years old. Files have been in use for hundreds of years. Etc. there’s almost always an older way of doing the same process. For example the serrations in my blade. I ground them with a belt sander. But the same thing could have been accomplished with a curved hot cut tool and an apprentice. We have lost of lot of innovation and creativity in the world we live in today because we have machines that do the work for us. (Which can be a good thing by the way.) back 1000 years ago we didn’t have those machines/that technology yet so they came up with processes to be able to do their craft with what they had available or what they could manufacture themselves.
The show is very interesting and attractive to me. Always accompanying every step to support the program. Wish the program more success.

May I ask a question please?
What and why exactly do you love "forged in fire" ?
@@paulitza9 it's an awesome show that showcases the world of bladesmithing with humble and talented competitors
Hey I love Forged I’m fire too!!!
I feel like the strength test was unfair for that kind of weapon. Serrated edges, no matter how well made, do not like being bashed into anything hard. Damage is inevitable.
I agree! I feel like they should have done the strength test after the edge test.
@@xOShAuGhNeSsYx96 No, the order they do it in is very deliberate, and shouldn't be changed. But the test should be fair to the weapon type. This test is like doing a flex test on a battle-axe. It makes no sense.
Yeah but then again if your weapon breaks while in combat because someone blocked your strike, you'll be in trouble
Actually I think this strength test was very well suited to this blade. I think an ice block would have been unfair. The pots have a lot more give for a serrated blade like this. And yes they do the tests in that order on purpose.
@@aricfontaine5606 Ice block would definitely have been worse, but any bashing is bad for serrated edges. It should have been some sort of sawing test, which is what serrations are supposed to do.

Man. I think it is amazing that most of these bladesmiths are wowed by their own work in action.
Much love from Connecticut
Anybody else surprised that this sword never appeared in Mortal Kombat? Totally looks like it belongs with one of those characters.
this is an extremely complex weapon to make with all the modern tools and equipment.. just imagine the craftsmanship and hard work that went to making it back in the day with none of the modern tools and equipment.
From a craftsmanship experience the historical requirements might actually be lower.
However it would be so much more work. And both for the same reason.
Sawing and filing such a shape by hand is so much slower.
But because its so much slower its not as likely to do drastic mistakes while doing it.
honestly, one of the more beautiful pieces remade on this channel.

Dude,that would be an understatement.
That is one of the most wicked-looking swords I've seen...in real life.
It's also kind of fascinating...clearly, this weapon easily cleaved & decapitated, perhaps moreso than other blades I've seen tested on this show.
...but it was also very susceptible to damage...the teeth on the edge were prone to breakage.
It makes me think that this weapon is sort of a "one-and-done" blade...good for one fight; and probably not very good for a prolonged encounter.
Actually it was designed specifically for beheading not for true battle. But yes the teeth tend to be a weakness of the blade
