- Okay,it was 1976, no one was thinking of Patsy. She was far from being the icon she has been for the last 30 years. But at that time, Linda introduced this as Willie Nelsons song. the arrangement is superb with the country guitar lead, terrrific acoustic guitar and Linda's amazing vocal, esp in the closing part of the song.
If anyone could hold a candle to Patsy Cline it is Linda R.
It is Willie's song, and Patsy and then Linda made it amazing. The band is also incredible. We're lucky Linda was healthy for over sixty years. Sadly, all good things come to an end, and we are left with electronic dance music. Shoot me now. I have lived a life.
I used to think that Patsy Cline OWNED this song. Till I heard Linda sing it. It's still Patsy's song, but the extraordinary Linda does a great job with it. The musicians were great as well
There is no woman equal to this lovely lady
Linda Ronstadt is the best ever
Linda Ronstadt losing her voice is one of the greatest tragedies of our time.
She is a National Treasure.
As compared to what? .... War, famine, terrorist attacks? I think you got a little carried away...didn’t you?
Kenneth Hargreaves Well those are all relative things that come and go what about quenching our eternal inner longing?!
"You can always find some expert who will say something hopelessly hopeless about anything."
I agree!
More like a world treasure!
Love Patsy Cline. But, this is a rare occasion when I prefer another version of a song over hers. I love that sexy, sultry, soft humming at the tag end of the song ❤
"Linda probably got the most beautiful voice, bar none, than any singer in the 20th century." - Emmylou Harris
She's the best
Linda Ronstadt is the gold standard by which ALL other female singers should be compared.
How could anyone give this song a thumbs down? Baffles me. She’s great at whatever she sings!
Better than Origional !! So many emotions !!!!!!!!
Linda is certainly one of the greatest singers of all time. Female or Male. Her versatility is simply amazing. When Dolly Parton and Emmylou Harris consider her "The Best" it is pretty hard to ignore her talent. Country, Rock, Pop, New Wave, Opera, Spanish, Classical and Big Band; LInda could sing anything. Five platinum albums in a row speaks volumes. She could sing anything at a very high level.
Any song from any genre that Linda sang, she owned. Linda Ronstadt is the gold standard by which all other female singers must be judged.
Incredible... on this great song, nobody could top Patsy... except LINDA...!
As usual, Linda's rendition is the Best-Ever... Incredible.
I love Patsy original, but no one can sign this song better that the lovely Linda Ronstadt.
Astounding wonderful singer
Linda had such a beautiful voice and absolute control. I love everything about Linda.
No One could touch her..truly talented .The Best ever..
the woman was amazing, she crossed all barriers, singing everything including operas,
Just as hauntingly beautiful as Ms. Cline herself.
Linda's superb voice combined with the jazzy arrangement with the country pedalsteel makes this probably the ultimate version of this song. Everything 'fits'!
We were all In love with Linda back in the day. Right fellow's.
Still...
@@gladtobeopenminded absolutely.
You know it.
@@atchelitz Couldn't wait to here her songs on the radio.
What do you mean "were" in love?
Linda Ronstadt had the career she deserved. Always exploring her craft and bringing the curiosity, warmth, humour and tenderness to to everything she approached. Never afraid to approach her gift. Interesting that she and Julie Andrews, another magnificent voice, have been robbed of their gift by illness or medical issues and now live in a world where their recordings define them.
Greatest female singer of her generation ... period! Hats off to Willie, though ... without him we would never have had this amazing recording.
Ah the voice makes your heart melt, very few of today's female artist can hold a candle to Linda voice!
They never will !!! 😳😳😳
LeAnn Rimes runs a very close second to Linda 😍
I absolutely adore everything about Linda Ronstadt. That voice which was both soft and powerful and her exquisite control. If anyone could cover this song by Patsy Cline it would be Linda and it is remarkable. I'm still in the Patsy camp on this one though because her version was more "old school" with the primary instrument being that beautiful piano and the backing vocals by the Jordanaires (who also worked with Elvis). That style just worked so well for the song and just isn't done any more. That said, I will listen to Linda's version any time because I'll never get enough of that voice
She has an unbelievable voice. Absolutely beautiful.
Willie Nelson said there are two kinds of men in this world. Those that are in love with Linda Ronstadt and those that don't know who she is.
I think he said it about Emmylou Harris, but the sentiment goes equally well here.

@@rabbi120348 both works for me.
He wrote this song
I agree with Willy, it took me a long time to understand that statement. We love her for her vocals but you gotta know SHE has a strong mind of her own!
After all these years, I am still madly in love with her.
As am I.. We had 2 of her 8 tracks that we listened to on our family cross country vacations. Unforgettable.
Oh ...you too ? :)
Linda was beyond great for a number of yrs I'm glad she finally made HOFn so saddened to know this great voice has been silenced by illness
I just fell back in love myself.
Get in Line,Carl............................
Slow dancing listening to Linda Ronstadt
Swaying to the music
Dreamy
Absolutely the best! What a beautiful voice.
The greatest female singer of all time, Linda Ronstadt.
Never have heard Linda sing this...amazing!
Never saw her live, but she's somone you feel is a freind and somebody you know. What atalent.
And I firmly agree that losing her voice was on of the great musical tragedies in our time.
Shes one of the best singer.. but for me shes the best...like her voice and i love her until now. I pray that God will heal her Parkinsons... stay strong Linda... Mabuhay!!!
Bravo! Brava! Magnificent exceptional emotions! I cry, dear, Thank you for all your wonderful songs!
star struck again
If Linda had just recorded country music, she would have had great success. The fact that she excelled in many music genres makes her one of the greatest female singers of all time. This rendition is second to none.
+catman916 What's wrong with being versatile?? I do it all the time, country, jazz, classical music, etc. I listen and appreciate it all when I'm in the mood. Stop being so damn narrow minded.
+Jacqueline Aldana I was not being critical of Linda, Jacqueline. I was praising her for being so versatile and successful in all of the types of music she performed - rock, country, country -rock, folk, American standards, and Mexican music. I can't think of another singer who excelled in this way.
catman916 Are you serious ? "She wold have had great success ??? " LMFAO. She brought on the Eagles. She brought it, and no female vocalist could shine her shoes. EVER.
Final Answer.
Not to forget the jazz standards album she recorded with Nelson Riddle or the stint in the operetta The Pirates of Penzance!
DAG - you were misunderstood by two people in opposite ways ): Life is hard sometimes, specially the communication part!
I definitely crazy 🤯for Linda Ronstadt 🥰
I remember when Patsy Cline came out with this, Dad loved it. When I play this for him and he thought it was Patsy. He fell in love with Linda.
How I did love Patsy....Linda does it real justice...........
I loved Patsy and I love Linda. This was one of the best covers I've heard. I miss them both.
Fantastic voice. Fantastic woman.
Both Patsy and Linda could sing a song with a lot of feeling. Not many of us singers today can. It is all about emotional memory.
I agree
One of Willie Nelson’s best superbly sung.
Linda's music has kept me company deep into many long nights. Her voice is a balm for my soul. Thank you Linda Ronstadt for sharing your rare gift.
One of the purest voices that ever sang.
She sings it exactly the way Patsy did, the only way it should be sung. It's perfection. I think Linda Ronstadt if the greatest woman singer of the past 40 years. I love her voice and it's a shame that someone of her caliber had to get an illness what takes that voice away from her.
+bon1042 Its way slower than Patsy's version and lacks the emotional feel of Patsy's. And I like Linda, she has a great voice and many great songs behind her.
+bon1042 Always straight from the heart. Sexy sultry and depth not all screaming and shit like all these other artists thinks it should be done.
I think Linda puts More Emotion into it than Patsy's. That said, I like both artists, but Linda throughout her catalogue has much more emotion in her voice.
She's right up there with Emmylou Harris. Hey!...someone should get them together!
TOO LATE
Patsy Cline is for all time. I sang along with her songs from a young girl If I ever get the chance I will sing her and Nina Simone and Odetta's songs for the world to embrace once again.
I'm going to keep this simple. Her voice was gold. Linda tone and phrasing was one of the finest. I am so happy we have recordings of her. All my love to you Linda. Thank You and Merry Christmas 2020.
Platinum
I'm heartbroken. Linda was probably the finest voice I've ever heard in my lifetime. I can only hope that she will be with us for a good many years. And that her illness progresses very slowly or not at all. We're all getting old so much sooner than any of us ever dreamed. Life is short. And time is priceless.
Man this woman can sing anything and sound absolutely wonderful love her ❤️❤️❤️
Linda ronstadt so talented and beutifull👍😀
Linda is one of my favorite singers! Love her voice!!!!❤❤❤
I have loved Linda Ronstadt forever. And that's just her looks. Her singing is as fabulous as it gets. I wish I could just spell ronstat when it isn't in front of me.
Out of respect and admiration Linda would cover songs made famous by others. What an amazing talent!
An amazing rendition of Patsy Cline...Only Linda...
One of the most perfect voices of our generation.
If you love Linda and miss her, listen to Sissel Korkjebo. Start with "Wait A While".
Other great songs are Solitaire (with Neil Sedaka), Sukiyaki, Solveig's Song and Imagine for starters.
I’m crazy about Linda Ronstadt!
No one cries into a microphone like RONSTADT. Linda was both sensual and sorrowful. That is rare.
Every bit as good as Patsys own version!!!!
Hank Williams Sr has a rival.
I agree. Linda knew a song and gave it its due and it did not matter what the song was. Her range was phenomenal. She is the best "pop" singer I ever came across. She is beautiful: body and soul and so is her voice.
Hurt so bad was my favorite
That voice..... heaven.
While Patsy Cline had a big hit with with "Crazy" the song was always Willie Nelsons' because he wrote it. Linda's rendition is superb.
Willie said after Patsy sung it, it belonged to her. He wrote it and later on recorded it .
Linda sings it beautifully.
@@sandyellis3004 Right. And the assertion that Patsy was all but forgotten until this cover by Linda is ludicrous. She was a walking Icon when the talented Linda was just a teen and has remained so to this day.
@@matthewronson5218 I agree Patsy was , but as a teenager in the seventies , I never heard of Patsy Cline until Linda Ronstadt covered two of her songs, then I went to the record store and bought ever Patsy album I could find.
Mike Slone And there will be a generation that has never heard of Linda Ronstadt either. Time marches on.
Patsy Cline is the greatest female country singer of all time. All female country singers know it. As did Linda. As did Shania, As did Loretta , as did Tammy, as did Faith , so did Dolly, as did Carrie, and all the others. When Linda recorded this , she undoubtedly was one of Patsy's biggest fans , and was undoubtedly hugely influenced by her in her early years. Even though she was already gone , Linda probably wanted to honor Patsy (and make a few bucks) by recording one of her biggest hits. Willie had NOTHING to do with it even though he wrote it.. All others can only wish they had a voice as strong and beautiful as she had.And by the way, as big a star as Willie became late in his career, nobody really new who he was until the mid 70's when Waylon Jennings and him hooked up. If you wan't to hear how great Patsy;s voice was I suggest you listen to Tennessee Waltz or any other original recording by her to hear for yourself .
No doubt, one of the best ever.
Hauntingly Beautiful. So pure and raw. This is as good as it ever gets, anytime, anywhere!!!
Once in a generation singer !!! Awesome
For me Linda always ran circles around them all, even Stevie Nicks.
Linda is one of the monsters , one of the ones on top of the American music , Mexican-American, from the World-American people, the most beautiful country in earth, I'm Cuban, thanks America for your melting....
Linda Ronstadt channeling Patsy Cline via a Willie Nelson composition. Does life get any better than this?
After Ella, the greatest female singer of the 20th century.
Sorry, you got the order reversed.
What a voice!
What a class act and a consummate artist!
She stepped out of a dream. Great singer without a false note. Strong and tender.
And if she did have a false note, it sure was perfect haha!
All I got is...WOW!
What pure and exceptional talent,a range like no other, Linda is absolutely the best female vocalist everxx
Patsy would be proud, great job Linda
She is the National Treasure, just Amazing no words
This gave me goosebumps. The best rendition.... after Patsy's of course. It's pretty close.
She could sing anything and make it work. Rock, country, pop classics, Gilbert & Sullivan, and it all worked. I don't think she ever hit a flat note.
Wow! Just Wow.
Kids today.....I wish they could listen with an open ear....like we did! God bless Linda... : )
exactly! my mom was into Elvis, Beetles. Dad was into Hank Patsy Johnny Cash. I grew up to those and listening to Zeppelin, Motley Crue Deep Purple. We had a great mix of music to listen too
Have always loved her voice
Patsy would be proud.. and what an arrangement... she sings like an angel..
Written bythe great Willie Nelson, sung by the great Patsy Cline and the great Linda Ronstadt.
Brings Tears to my eyes....♥
Brilliant. Willie Nelson's classic is in safe hands here. There is nothing that Linda could not do justice to.
I grew up listening to her music in the 60's/70's. No one had a clearer, more powerful voice. She is still a beautiful and classy woman.
I was very fortunate enough to see her in about 1993 on the tour of songs for my father she never said one word in english and sang in spanish I've seen just about every ledgend in my 58 years and that show was with out a dought the best performance I have ever seen amazing very talented Lady?
SHE HAS A PURE TONE, AND DOES SING ALL POP MUSIC FROM MARIACHI TO COUNTRY TO OLD BALLADS... WHAT A LOSS TO LOSE HER AS A SINGER....
Remarkable,versatile voiceLovely,beauty.Smart, natural.
I dearly love Linda Ronstadt. But on this particular song, Patsy OWNS it. Nobody even comes close.
Could you imagine what this would sound like if Patsy & Linda could of sang together? Well, trio 1&2 are as close as we'll get. Love good music with great voices. Not the garbage they call music now.
No matter who sings this song (Patsy, Linda , Willie , Leann or even your self) it truely remains an American Masterpiece. I'm not a good singer. But I could sing it in the shower and I can still sound great
Wow! Just wow!
Linda was an extraordinary vocalist. Pure, powerful beauty.
My all time favorite singer
Drop dead gorgeous. A perfect example of a woman. And a beautiful voice as well.
Well said. I think it's safe to say that if the chronology had been reversed, and Linda had sung the song when Patsy did, it would have been Linda who had the #1 most played juke box song- and we'd be speaking of Patsy's excellent rendition, years later!!
I love Linda's interpretation of Patsy's version. I'll bet when Willie wrote this he did not think just how big it would be. Thanks Willie.
saw her perform this and she was just flawless!
