James Darren was a good friend to her and convinced her to stop being a hermit and go public - James Darren convinced her to go on the Mike Douglas show in the late 1960s and it was a wonderful program with the two of them. RIP Gidget and Moondoggie!

I was born in 1954 and grew up watching all her movies - she seemed to be the most adorable, charming All American Girl. I think she actually had potential as a serious dramatic actress but was completely typecast by the Hollywood studio system who pigeonholed her into the Tammy pictures and Gidget. I wish her true talents were used by the film industry and if she had been given serious dramatic roles she would have truly flourished in her career. Now that she has revealed the source of her alcoholism, depression and mental health issues - I have complete compassion for her. As a child and teen I thought Bobby Darin and Sandra Dee were the "Charmed Couple" they clearly loved each other so much and it was a real tragedy about their divorce and his death at such an early age. THeir son is the spitting image of Bobby Darin and looks so much like his dad! I remember when she went on the Mike Douglas show in the late 1960s and she spoke about being sexually abused as a child and how she was basically the Cash Cow financially supporting her parents as a child star.

Poor little woman. She should have gotten some kind of treatment. Her children were too young to help, husband and family long gone. Should have been in a facility. Tragic.

Sandra Dee so much especially in Gidget a few nights ago and the other thing she played was can't think of the whole title but it was Tammy and that was a beautiful story she played I think two of them one was on the Riverboat and when she was becoming a nurse beautiful thank all of you everyone on the stage tonight was one of my favorites and the one that didn't come he was also my favorite may she rest in peace now and thank her son and I hope to see that movie I haven't heard of it but maybe I can find it maybe they can put it on TV one day we have Turner Classic Movie here all of you who are still here God bless you God bless Sandra Dee may she rest in peace and God gave her everything she needed and helping the people amen

I saw this interview, Sandra said she didn’t like being put with older men in movies, she was just a teenager back then, it scared her.

So much respect for Miss Sandra Dee! So intelligent - so evolved and shame on Sally Jesse Raphael who seemed like an evil woman. Surely, Miss Dee's soul rested in peace. But, for sure, Miss Dee was as high as a kite, sadly.
