No
You should make an Emoji Movie analysis video for Jacksfilms.
Amazing analysis as always just wanted to point out the instrumental shrek tracks are also amazing, the song that plays when shrek and donkey are in the shed transforming is a sort of reprise of "eating alone" or whatever, that fucking GOLDEN song that plays when shrek is...eating, alone...and when shrek and donkey are talking under the stars, so the fact that they have continuity between the INSTRUMENTAL BACKGROUND MUSIC only adds to shrek 2's stardom
"Shes a princess and you're an ogre, that's something no amount of potion is ever going to change"
-a lady who made a frog a king
Plus one sin on the sin counter
She just didn't want to change Shrek physically to suit his needs because her plan was to have her son Prince Charming marry Fiona
And that's why I like her. Evil asf
@@FortunateFox_ not really because it's totally consistent with her character to lie about that in order to get what she wants because she's a duplicitous piece of shit.
In a way, Fiona is the bestiality love child of a frog and a princess
I love the fact that at the end of Shrek 1, Shrek accepts that he is an ogre. He doesn’t hate to be one anymore.
But in Shrek 2’s finale he actually chooses to be one. He finally likes and wants to be himself.
:') tearing up a bit, ngl
Now that is a good character arc
And in Shrek 4, he feels like he isn't himself anymore that maybe he was better before, only to learn that he actually has an almost perfect life, that he actually loved his friends, wife and children.
@@davisdf3064 Yeah! But we do not include Shrek 3 right?
@@ladynoname3621 there is no Shrek 3 in Ba Sing Se
The fact that Puss in Boots got his own movie is proof that Shrek 2 left an undeniable impact on the franchise since he wasn’t introduced in the first Shrek movie but the sequel.
I think the fact that Far Far Away was the main setting for the rest of the trilogy shows enough how impactful it was on the Shrek franchise
This hits on a new level since there is another PiB movie and no word on the rumored Shrek 5 reboot but I think Forever After had a grand finale Shrek doesn't need to flanderize himself like Homer,Peter,Goku, and Rick Sanchez he left a positive impact on society and that's what really matters
I thought Puss was weakest part of 2, his character, his inclusion into the "crew" it's so half baked, if 2 had ANY flaw it was how they handled him.
how did I never realize he wasn’t in the first movie?? Am I crazy?? Literally how. That’s nuts 😂
Pussy's film is both a thematic and commercial impact of Shrek franchise, but Far Far Away and grounding even more in love and self value as the main theme of the trilogy is the real impact of Shrek 2.
The Holding Out for a Hero scene is so unequivocally, absolutely, unironically perfect
Clever name, but what have you done with Ann A
We have a problem. Shrek 2 is absolutely the best application of this song, but there is one thing that stands in it's way. Tetris (not the game, the movie). It's application of the song is alright, but it has 2 remixes of the song, which are both better than Shrek 2's cover! One has to win. We have to fight for Shrek 2! Together! (No discredit to Tetris tho, still a great movie)
It legit always brings me to tears. Even 20 years later.
We ALL know that the scene in Shrek 2 where Fairy Godmother is singing “Holding out for a Hero” is a *SUPERIOR* scene.

I Just had a massive realization that the muffin man from shrek 2 is probably one of the most powerful/threatening forces in the far far away/the shrek universe. like, the man was able to create mongo, a colossul gingerbread man that a whole castle guard had trouble fighting, and then you realize he made him in the span of a few minutes (the ball already started before shrek and crew got to him). so, he could potentially create a whole army of them and that is hilarious, imagine the rumbling from Attack on Titan but with gingerbread men.
Lmao
Dude, finally someone who recognizes the menace that the Muffin Man is. And the dude was never a villain in the Shrek franchise. Complete chad, just baking cookies.

Since she’s magic, she could’ve disguised herself
Fairy Godmother is the witch.
*(Apparently)*
I mean... if Fiona is under no illusions over Fairy Godmother's motives... she could be throwing shade.
Also... what was the likelihood that King Harold had a witch in his court. If all she heard are that witches are magical ladies who do bad things, so being victim of a magical lady doing a bad thing could have made her assume Fairy Godmother was a witch.
Or, Fairy Godmother gaslit the family into believing that a witch did it. Or she could have orchestrated it and hired a witch to not be technically personally responsible.

@@skylerboyce2597 A fair assessment.
No debate there.
I like Shrek 1 better
A small character detail that I also love is that Fiona isn't just some oblivious, innocent damsel in this whole situation with Prince Charming. Like sure, she kind of goes along because the whole experience is new and confusing and she isn't exactly sure who to trust -- but she knows herself and her relationship with Shrek so well that she trusts her gut, while also knowing to wait for the right time to act on her intuition.
Growing up as a kid I thought “holding out for a hero” was made specifically for shrek 2 because it was the first time I ever heard it and it was just that perfect of a fit

Same. Also "I'm a believer" from the first Shrek. It fits so well with the theme of the movie that I got surprised that it wasn't made for it
I think I was under that impression for all the songs in the first two movies
14:40 Puss saying “I hate Mondays” was one of my favourite jokes in the movie.
I just rewatched Shrek 2 and was surprised by how well-paced it was. No one’s dwelling on a misunderstanding or is spending too much time sad. Instead, Shrek and his friends act intelligently and move the plot along when they're supposed to. I could believe the movie was almost over when the Fairy Godmother gave King Harold the love potion.
My brother is the only person I know who isn't actually a fan of "I need a hero", because when he was like 4, he was absolutely devastated when the giant gingerbread died, and suffers from ptsd whenever he hears the song
This is the only reason I will accept and completely agree with

And what’s great is that through the whole movie Shrek and Fiona still loved each other. They just had trouble getting onto the same page because they were fighting different battles at the same time (Fiona dealing with abandonment issues from her parents leaving her in a tower, and Shrek’s self worth worsening again by being discriminated against constantly), the only thing stopping them from working out these issues together were the other characters keeping them apart. Once they were reunited in the end they were as strong as ever. It’s so easy for writers to just completely break down the relationship in the first movie so they can rebuild again it in the sequel. But it just cheapens the love when they do that. I’m so glad they didn’t go that far for this movie and it just about Shrek realizing he DOES deserve happiness.

I don't think there's ever been a more influential movie in my life. Grew up with these movies... Loved them as a kid even if they were so deep we didn't fully understand them as kids...
But as you grow up (I'm now a college student), they still hit. They're relatable. I am an autistic person and have struggled a lot with identity, these movies that were with me most of my life, have always been there to relate to and they've actually helped me through things.
Through self-doubt, through being unable to accept myself for who I am, to struggling socially, or with relationships, or being alone... Or always feeling like I'm not good enough

I did NOT expect Shrek 2 would become THAT deep oof
Very unfortunately, The Blockbuster Buster, Cartoon Palooza would and et cetera et cetera would be all like “You’re giving Shrek 2 way too much credit, it’s not at all THAT deep!” if he saw it. Even if they didn’t dislike Shrek 2, they reviewed it unfairly to make people look like it has more flaws than people see, as if they were any more insightful when it makes them look like the people that look for things to complain about in many DreamWorks Animation movies that they are. Hell, Cartoon Palooza even went as far as to say that without Shrek 2, Shark Tale wouldn’t have been the way it is! Shrek 2 could’ve been a positive influence on Shark Tale to make it an amazing movie, but how Shark Tale turned out executed to be the disaster (no pun intended) it is will always be a mystery since it has all the potential to be as great as people make it out to be in retrospect, potential and nostalgia.

i didn't expect to cry today while watching this video... but the last 5 minutes of it really hit me hard. thank you schaffrillas for making this video. i know to you it might just seem like you made a video on your favorite movie, but to me... this is a video that changed my life. i know i sound cheesy, but it's true. i've never felt like i'm good enough and hearing those words... that last 5 minute segment... that really helped me. thank you💕
The last part of your video made me cry. 😭 It was really touching. Thanks for that beautiful conclusion. ♡
Einstein listened to the Shrek 2 soundtrack before writing the bible.
EVERYTHING DOES NOT MAKE SENCE AND THAT'S WHY I LIKE IT
Sir you have it backwards Einstein read the Bible and was this inspired to compose the entirety of the Shrek 2 soundtrack and score
I was waiting for someone to get r/wooshed and I will have to wait longer it seems
I keep reading the “Einstein” in this comment as “Elvis”
Ok. Just woooosh me on purpose.
Satan wrote the bible who invented einstein, who was a philosopher about god.
can’t believe it took me this long to realize Doris was voiced by Larry King

Seriously...a big thank you for how you ended this and addressed everyone personally about how we matter. I've been going through a lot and there's a lot of people hating on me when I'm just trying to do my best, and well - what you said, it helped.
This video is an absolute classic, the perfect sequel points are absolutely accurate and I'm currently using them in my analysis of Thief 2 in my next script. Love this channel, this video and the Assassins reference.
*Nobody tell schaffrillas that mushu won't even be in the Mulan remake*
So what your saying is the movies gonna suck
D: what?!
(Brenda Balzan) It’s based off of the original Mulan story, and Mushu wasn’t in it.
@@helenaperez4343 But... But then it's not a remake... It's... entirely different...
but he was the second best part of the movie
Fun fact the people at Dreamworks were originally going to make an original song for the first scene in Shrek 1 and the All Star version was an animation test but then the they decided that All Star fit so well with the scene that they decided to get the rights from Smashmouth
Mallard Duck/JRH thank god they didn’t use the shrek one
Gaming Wizard indeed

Best decision ever!

Hey Schafrilla, I don’t know why it took me so long to get to this video. Your points you made resonate so strangely personally with me it makes me feel like I was listening to an old friend telling me to never give up. As a theater kid who has been made akin to Shrek and even PLAYED shrek in the musical version has really been a big part of my identity I hold dear to myself. I’m reminded to believe in myself and to listen to good music. Just thank you for doing what you do
The fact that Shrek 2 makes an O.J. Simpson reference is so ballsy and bold yet it works
what was the OJ Simpson reference
@@jackhamilton9604 the "knights" scene where it said "we've got a white bronco headed east. requesting backup". it referred to the infamous OJ white bronco car chase
So you admit shark tale is ballsy and bold... “o.j shrimpson”
The scene in which Puss gets arrested with "cat powder" is also great
@@InvictusTahir it also made an Alien reference

You're not good until you do good
Exactly what I did
You know it's a good scene when the mere mention of its name gives you chills.
been depression bed rotting and binging your videos and this last little segment actually made me cry :)
One of my favorite moments in the "Holding Out for a Hero" moment is near the end and we get this epic as hell transition/character moment for Puss. When FGM sings the line: "He's gotta be larger than life" and we see Puss jump down ready to face the guards as the trumpet solo plays. Shrek, and Donkey, try to go back for him but Puss tells them to go on to repay his debt. But, we know this isn't about his debt, this is a man (cat?) willingly putting his life on the line so his friend can save his wife and you can hear it in his voice that he is willing to die for him. For an ogre, he only knew for a day or two, one he was hired to kill and has shown him nothing but mercy, humor, and determination for his loved ones, a trait that he himself has long forgotten until he met a monster that earned his happy ending. Shrek was the hero of the film, but Puss in Boots was Shrek's hero.
p.s., I was literally holding back tears while writing this because of how goddamn moving Puss' heroics was mixed with epic music.
Bro..when that scene happen and he made the cute eyes I was like aawww BUT THEN THEY HIT YOU WITH THE CHOIR SINGING THE AAAS AND PUSS IS LIKE BATTLING THEM I WAS LIKE OMG ok I’m sorry but I completely understand.
