Dick Deadeye: (spoken) "Well, it's human nature innit you see? Therefore, I am resigned. Right-"
(sung) If you give me your attention, I will tell you who I am,
I'm the bloke on board monopolising every little scam,
You want a special service? I provide it in a flash,
My suppliers do me credit, but my terms are strictly cash,
You're after something rare: exotic perfume, grog, or clothes?
I can get them through the customs, but you'll pay me through the nose,
My mum said 'Son, what's wrong with earning profit if you can?'
But everybody says I'm such a disagreeable man,
      And I can't think why-
      Assembly: He can't think why,
He sold his mother last July!
Dick: (spoken) "Well, she was old"
(sung) I am humble and ignoble, even though I run the show,
You can ask me any question, I'll tell you where to go,
So far I own the poop-deck, and the Mizzen mast as well,
And the ship's gonna rock to my own clock,
Cuz I just bought the bell,
      (Ding!)
      I'm a businessman, I'm a banker,
      I'm an interesting gent,
      I've got everybody's interest,
      Assembly: Yeah, thirty-five per cent!
      Dick: (spoken) "Alright, alright,"
(sung) I look like Captain Hook, but I'm sweet as Peter Pan,
And everybody says I'm such a disagreeable man,
      And I can't think why,
      Assembly: He can't think why,
Just stick around and you'll know why,
Dick: But- my casino's open on paydays,
If you want to place a bet,
I can double all your earnings,
      Playing Deadeye Dick's roulette,
I got poker or the shell game,
      And sometimes craps is nice-
      Conductor: (spoken) "What was that?!"
Dick: (spoken) "Craps! It's a game a chance - bit like your conducting mate!"
      (sung) You'll be positively loaded,
      Just like the dice,
You sometimes win, you sometimes lose,
      That's how the number falls,
      They gotta take their chances,
Cuz I got um by the-
All the crew are in my debt,
      Even Captain Corcoran,
(spoken) "Oh. Oh, look at that. Here you go, love. Put that in the cupboard will ya? Next to the America's Cup."
(sung) But everybody says I'm such a disagreeable man,
      And I can't think why,
      Everyone: He can't think why,
      (I) He can't think why,
Dick: (spoken) "Here you go, mate!"

    wrong opera!

This is far from the first time a G&S song from a different play has been repurposed. The movie version of Pirates uses the "It Doesn't Matter" song from Ruddigore, and "Climbing Over Rocky Mountains" was repurposed for Pirates by Sullivan himself. It was from Thespis, their first operetta. Thespis has since been lost, making that song the only part anyone still alive has ever heard.

Strictly speaking yes ... King Gama's song from Princess Ida, an opera I would much like to see again. not strictly Gilbert's lyrics, either ... bu it worked. I loved it

@@charlesajones77 There's this televised version of HMS Pinafore from 1985 that uses 'if you give me your attention' for Dick Deadeye as well. Personally, I believe it works really well to use songs from the lesser known G&S operas and slide them in to the more popular ones to mix them up a little.

Yeah, also the arrangement chills my bones.

It actually seems more dated than the song. I'm no purist, either. I just can't see 90's soft-rock Pinafore (with songs from Ida). No offense to anyone who digs it.
