  • Oli is joined by Nathan Thrall and Abed Salama for this hour on the conditions Palestinians live in under Israeli occupation.
Nathan is the author of A Day in the Life of Abed Salama: Anatomy of a Jerusalem Tragedy, which follows the tragic death of Abed's son Milad, and the bureaucratic walls that Abed encountered in the hours, days and weeks following Milad's death as a Palestinian living in a part of the West Bank under Israeli occupation.
Abed shares his story with us, and Nathan brings in-depth knowledge of the occupation and the ongoing Israel-Palestine conflict.

    Quietly, very powerful!!!
Deep respect for the dad telling his heart rending story and makes complete sense why his story was chosen to be foregrounded!!! 💜💜💜

The thing that constantly runs through my mind is the creation of the Palestinian ghetto. If anyone on earth knows about ghettos, it's the Jews. Do they now think their history gives them some kind of leeway to treat others the same way that they were treated?
Dehumanising & the stripping away of liberties was the first ploy of the Nazis, giving them the warped mindset to carry on with the nightmare that followed. I'm not for one moment insinuating that Israelis are going to set up death camps but the way they are treating the Palestinians has repellent overtones of the start of their own treatment under the Nazis.
Before anyone starts berating me for being an anti-Semite, my father was Jewish. His family escaped earlier pogroms in Poland & Russia, long before the Nazis. His wider family, though, perished in the camps, so I am far from being an anti-Semite. I just cannot understand how the Israelis can mete out the same kind of injustice that the Jews suffered before. The final indignity that poor family had to endure was the exclusion of their son from the court case because he didn't have the right colour pass. The ultimate negation of his right to humanity & justice.

PoliticsJOE thank you so much for this one of many eye opening interviews on this conflict. I’ve already got the book on order and look forward to reading it at the earliest opportunity. We need more videos like this. I’m glad it is with a Jewish author who is bringing to light how the Palestinian people of all backgrounds are living under occupation under an Apartheid state.

A major concern is that it seems in our 'free democracy' we're not allowed to be free thinking individuals who are pro-oppressed people, anti-occupier, and supportive of those living in open prisons - are we not allowed to question our own Colonial mistreatment of Palestine? We cannot question the vile, evil treatment of Palestians....

Then I see your comment after listening to an emotional story of a man losing his child. I realize that I'm way beyond the marker. I lost it when Mr. Salama said he went to cry in the bathroom because he didn't want his pain to cause his wife more pain, but then she came in and hugged him. I'm guessing she heard her husband's heart breaking and went to give him strength. 💔🕊️🌱🫒❤️‍🩹💚
