- Howdy fellow adventurers, if you plan on having solar on your shanty boat, this is a good episode to watch. I've been blessed to have a friend like Mike in town to hire, bargain and trade skills with--he also comes with his own helpers :)
There's nothing quite like the feeling solar power gives you when you're trying to stay as free and independent as possible.
Here's a parts list of (most) of what we used on this solar install:

Mike's a great Dad, teaching his kids skills. Thanks for showing this.
& Wavy is Not worthless!
One of my favorite sayings is thank God for good people. it looks to me like you got one of them As a friend.❤
So cool to see kids working with their dad learning real life things, hope it imprints well on them.
*Good* job Mike & Sons!
Brenton & Wavey should be quite Thankful for your work, as they go on their journey.
🙏🦉
🌅🏞️🌅
Dang man, a lot of work. Thank goodness for Mike and son. :)
His kids are getting an education.
This guy (not this guy) brought his son with him to pump out my septic. I told the son his dad is gifting him by bringing him to the jobsite. He's learning so much; transaction, money, dealing with people, job well done, referrals, etc...The kid actually looked at me.
@rodneyleonard8714 I'm in total agreement with you, unfortunately this particular guy ended up being a trash human
You will never regret getting solar you know just cruising down the lake and getting all of that free energy and having your lights and the convenience and running your refrigerator there's just no comparison. I am happy for you and wavey and I can't wait to watch all these videos of you and wavey cruising the Florida again.
Mike seems like a great guy. My 2 older sons used to help me on projects just like his boys. One is now a very great Diesel mechanic and other one because a Recon Marine. Teaching boys stuff like this is knowledge no one can take away from them.
I really love the build Brenton. I think you are building the perfect size boat for extended river adventures. I could see you traveling the waterway all over the Southeast and believe you could spend the entire winter doing it. Once you hit Kentucky Lake you can take the Tennessee River over to Chattanooga and Knoxville in east TN. Weather is pretty mild there. I been on that part of the river years ago. Probably one of the most beautiful river trip I was on.
But your boat is perfect for the Mobile and Mississippi Delta area, Plus it’s warmer down there. With a scooter on board you have the perfect setup to explore the Southeast and create content. Be huge for the channel. I think a lot of people will follow a trip like that.
Seriously, If you can make the big bend of Florida and make it down to Tampa Bay we have a deep water slip on the Manatee river. Just a couple miles off the Gulf. It has water and electric at the slip. It’s yours to use for free all winter. There is a Walmart a mile up the road. And you can walk if you like to all the restaurants and bars in downtown Bradenton…
Talk about Boats and Ho’s…lol.. Bradenton/Sarasota is the place to be for a single guy…lol. Plus I have my buddies slip next door that’s empty also. So when I’m down fishin I can just keep my boat in his slip while I’m there. I’m only there about one week a month. Maybe more this winter because I plan to fish more…
Great install video Bradenton. And Mike explained stuff so a dumb hillbilly like me can understand…
The Nina the Pinta the Santa Maria..LOL love the intro
super sweet!! congrats !!! bless you always n your sweet fur baby ....
What a great solar team, and what an amazing skill for his son to be learning too. I love solar systems. Wish I had enough sun here in the mountains for a system.perfect for your shanty boat. Inspiring!😊☀️
800 watts seems to be the sweet spot for anything one would need on a Shanty Boat. It's been working fantastic. Which mountains?
@@backwatersandbackroads very nice you found the sweet spot with the solar, that is important. I'm up in the Appalachian Mountains bordering Smoky Mountain National Park's east entrance in NC. I can see the National Park entrance from my deck. It's a nice spot too, I can't complain living in the forest.😊
@@222dyan sounds great. That's a beautiful part of the country. Great motorcycle riding
Knowledgeable guy. Wow. Well done.
Man that is awesome....that guy knows his stuff but most of that went over my head! This new boat compared to the old one is gonna be the space shuttle vs the Wright Flier. Crossing Mobile bay will be a breeze!
IM WITH YOU HOSS, I ONLY GOT HALF OF IT! HAHA. BUT VERY INTERESTING!
Love the intro song😂
Your solar setup is about the same size as I have for battery backup to my house😆 I didn't know you had cruise control on the boat. Look'in good !
Love that boat. Remember to strap those batteries down.
This was a very informative video. Thanks!
Most Excellent!
I bought Alpicool 12 volt refrigerator from Amazon for about $275.
Supposedly it only draws 60 watts of power
Even with lithium iron initially being so much more expensive, since they can be cycled down to 90% (as opposed to 50%) and supply 5-7 thousand cycles, they end up being much less expensive over time. Also, you do not want to charge lithium iron batteries when they are below freezing.
Wow, that is looking great. Now....when will the adventure commence?
The intro reminds me of Lonely Island's "I'm on a boat."
I was gonna sample that one...but there's F bombs every 5 seconds ;)
@@backwatersandbackroads True, but how else are you gonna let everyone know you're a gangsta rapper on a boat? The more F-bombs you drop = the harder you are. Street Cred. + 1.
@@the_gilded_age_phoenix8717 this is true! There's no other way I can prove I'm a shanty boat beagle gangsta...be looking for it yo!! The beagle be cra yo!!
@@backwatersandbackroads Betta hold ya gangsta dawg back, yo, or someone's gonna bust a cap in his arse!
@@the_gilded_age_phoenix8717 I got 99 problems and a beagle ain't one yo! :)
YEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!!!! GOOD JOB! Now Wavey can have a heated Blankie for those cold nights, So now You're A Fleet Admiral since You have Two Boats, hehe Cheers
Parallel or series you never lose my dear Wattson. Good stuff Wavie turned gay on us boats and hoooos.
good luck.....
Inverters are extremely hard on batteries. If I remember correctly they were changing out batteries approx. every 4-5mos in the trucks equipped with inverters, when I drove over the road. My truck had a fridge which ran every day except when I was home and a 700watt microwave I used about twice a day.
I'll ask Mike about this. Thanks for bringing to my attention
"every 4-5mos" I suspect there was something very wrong with the system if they only lasted that long.
Winter is coming up to lake Superior
Awesome
Awesome 💪🏻💪🏻💪🏻
Also great to see young folks learning a trade 👍🏻
I'm sure glad you did this first now come down here and teach me
looking good!
That's awesome 🍻🍻🇺🇲🇺🇲 hey you should check out the songwriter Steven Rogers or Steve Rogers. He's got an album that is folk about old sailors. I thought it was pretty cool. You might like it too. He died just as he was getting real popular in an airplane that caught fire in the air. They were able to land the plane and got some of the passengers off but the smoke ignited and caused a fireball that engulfed the entire inside of the plane while they are evacuating it. There's a documentary about that incident on the Wonder channel on CZcams.
Nice , very nice
Ya Hoo! great progress, heading south soon I would guess!!
Been looking for a barge similar to the Beagle Build. Any suggestions beside Craigs List and marketplace? Thanks Mitch..
Other than just driving around looking in back yards, I think that's it.
I guess it is beyond my understanding as to why you are so worried about being able to use a generator. Other than that it was a very nicely done video. Hi wavey.
I believe he plans to use this boat for extended river travel. Not uncommon to have 3-4 cloud covered days. A small Honda generator will work great to top off the batteries. He is not tying this into the engine charging system. Plus a lot of the river banks he will stop at are tree covered. Will block out sun light. I understand why he wants the generator option… it’s a just in case type thing. He may never need it.
wonder why the batteries werent level?
They periodically need topping off. Reminds me to check...
Looking good Brenton. Im looking forward to the kitchen counter build. Will you be using the Stone coat method czcams.com/video/Dq3I2RrGZlQ/video.html for a live edge slab. I think it would look amazing and be very inexpensive to build.
🔋🔌💥🛥️
HI how are you? & i share this for you
What happened to the beagle barge?
Winter hit in Superiorland...will be finishing it this spring and summer. Lots of Superiorland adventures planned for it.
