- Howdy fellow adventurers, we're back on the Beagle Barge Beagle Build. In this episode, we install a pine plank floor. The same fella I get all the cedar from made me some planks to get the job done. I'm probably just avoiding making those pesky doors--it's going to have to get done soon.

1 Corinthians 10:13
"No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it"
Thanks for sticking around. see you soon...

Just a simple 2X4 frame mounted by strap hinges to that partial wall and you'd have the perfect Murphy bed. Especially when your bed frame would have a shelf or two on the bottom so when folded up to the wall could be used 😊
Before I got a divorce.... I had bought a 2800 square foot house on 120 acres, it was completely built with cedar, I loved it! The walls were bountiful! Cheers
Great sea shanties for a great shanty barge! You’re doing a fine job Brenton. I’ve been reading about the flatboats and keelboats of early America and the woodwork within your craft reminds of them…..really cool. Thanks again for sharing your work and adventures. Take care 👍👍👍
The word is “frugal” not cheap!😎The floor looks great.
Thank you!
Dang! all that wood! that's a big load :). big project too. I still love the Wavey Gravey commercials :).
Just job Wavey, keep ur human working. 😂
I didn't know what we were doing either but wife and I , tore house down and build one in the same spot took about a year..
Well done
You have my dream shanty/barge boat, the exact one I’ve had envisioned in my mind for the past 5 years…Right down to the color wood exterior, interior walls & flooring. Love it all. The only difference is I’d put white window facings around all the windows & hang red & black Buffalo Check window shade/coverings & matching bedding. Maybe a couple or so copper oil lamp wall sconces & some deer antler accent features, a galvanized tin ceiling & a Hobbit Wood Stove. (Not that I’ve put much thought in to it.) 😉 😊 ~ In the meantime I’ll live vicariously thru you.
I want to add some more "shanty" touches like that. The antlers for sure. That's rhe spirit behind all the driftwood I used so far.
Looks like a Northwoods Manufacturing wood stove.
Excellent choice!
That's it! You know it ;)
Looking good, your skills are improving. Love your shanty boat. Love Wavey
That sounds like a plan. Twin 🛌 good place.
Looking good man.can’t wait to see you’re adventures on the barge👍
Looking so good bro... Way to jump right in there. River and Wavey never help with woodwork. These dogs. I bet it will be warmer too. That 1 foot makes so much difference, my 2 cents ... Table where you wanted the fire place, fire place in the middle along the wall opposite the bed is my vote Brenton. Great video, thanks for showing us the build. Another Time Another Place.
Hi Martin, others are saying the same above wood stove placement. I'm leaning toward that also. I was thinking the same on being warmer too. Now to insulate the ceiling;)
HAPPY BIRTHDAY 🎂 🥳 🎉 And the floor looks great 👍 👌
The Barge is starting to look like my cabin, except it's all cedar and mine is all pine. 🙂
Beside beds and chairs there are sleeper ottomans. Search that term, there are a lot of options.
It's turning out looking great, if there's any space beneath the old floor this project is the perfect opportunity to build in a sub floor secret compartment, under a short floor plank, cut some screws off short and put them in so they all appear to be screwed down. Keep up the great work. Cheers from Jacksonville Florida 🌞
If you can find a used/scrapped windlass you can mount it on the front. If you get stuck you can dingy/kayak out your anchor and use the windlass to pull yourself out.
hello from the stormy ozarks brenton! awesome work. find some foam to rest your knees on or the beagles pillow. google navy ship beds . they have some great ideas on how to maximize your space. tight lines!
Great build, like others have mentioned some sealer to keep it looking clean and the stove is going to look pretty nice.
You are doing great! Keep plugging!
Thanks for posting it's been awhile
CZcams studio has a bunch of royalty free music for creators to use in their videos, dare I say that some are actually quite good!
Ive had to cut a lot of stuff out of my trawler..and put a lot of stuff in ..part of the fun of having something old is “at least I feel” try it so it yourself attitude ❤️love it man
Good job its looking great
Ya got me thinking Brenton, to keep from burning the shanty down a piece tin spaced say 2 inches away from the wall with an inch off the floor so the air can chimney cool air between the wall and the tin will keep wall from catching fire. I used an old frying pan under my little stove in deer shack with holes in the side of fry pan to let cool air in under the stove, bolted it right to stove get creative my diy stove was made out of 8 inch stove pipe used 3 inch chimney, needless to say one must be vigilant when using wood stoves but my ice shack and deer shanty were 4X8 ft. Supposed to snow again tomorrow, Oh Shit!
Oh yes, I have a plan to keep it from burning down. Trust me ;)
been following u since last year .... love your vids ! from Singapore
Welcome! Always happy and surprised to see folks from other countries here. Thank you for your time ;)
I built a fold up twin bed in my cargo trailer that I converted for hunting and fishing. It was not to difficult just plywood and gate hinges. For your floor I would look into the price of some kind of epoxy make it easy to clean, water proof and fill the gaps.
Funny right when I get on a boat I don’t think right or left it’s starboard or port and lines LOL
Good to leave the linoleum. It acts as a bit of a vapor barrier.
Check out "Travels with Geordie". He is restoring an old wooden boat. He is just finishing up building a folding bed in one of his boats. I think the way it folds could be adaptable to your needs. A small couch on each side that meets in the center to creat a bed.
😊 another great video what you doing looks great I would like to do the same thing in the future good luck with everything Brenton
Been laying floor for a while and volleyball knee pads work the best! They don’t slide either
Hey Brenton , great video . Really did a great job on the pine floor . changed the looks of the interior of the barge . looks great . Maybe this summer are fall you can make a trip my way ,. Good luck on the barge build .
By the way inspite of any negative things said the shorts are great almost like a teaser should be a great platform to attract new blood to the channel
Keep going 💪😊
Looks good Brenton when it comes to wood stoves or any heat device,I learned in ice shacks they only heat to the level they sit. For instance if you put it 3 ft off the floor it will heat from 3 ft up and the 3ft from the stove to the floor will be cold as hell so if possible put it close to the floor, voice of experience! Build on my friend! If you ever need rough cut aspen I cut and sell it for $ 1,00 a board ft have about 6000 on hand.
Still need doors.
Good stuff. Thanks
Thanks man. I hope you have some grand adventures planned for this summer ;)
That looks really cool! Gives it that old log cabin feel. I was thinking maybe an rv fold out couch but they're not too comfortable and a futon is not good for us tall dudes lol. I was thinking of using cedar fence boards for the floor in my tiny house but I think yours looks better. Maybe stain it or something. Anyway she's lookin great man, nice work! Be safe and happy late birthday!🍻
Looks good
Well, if the schoolie thing doesn't work out, you could always start a Catholic school. You've already got the bus...just need to build a one-room schoolhouse.
A twin size bed will take up too much room on that boat. A bunk bed might be the best, it could be a bit over width. It can also serve as a couch.
Hey Brenton, the floor looks great, I would suggest a sealer, Thompson's water seal will keep it from staining and make it easier too clean.
Brenton, I really enjoy your videos. I would love to build myself a shanty boat. I have a small sailboat that I will use to explore the (Rideau) canal. To make it easier to get under bridges I might use it as a small motorboat (leave the mast at home). I just want to get out on the water! Of course that Vagabond would be an excellent exploration vessel.
Thanks for the inspiration!
Hi Mike. Thanks for hanging around my little channel. The Vagabond is for sale ;) Facebook marketplace in Ontonagon, MI. If you're interested
The floor looks really good. It makes it look more like a cabin. Cheap IKEA twin bed if they deliver? Wood $50 (I have one and its good) or metal $70. Might it be worth packing bunches of shorts together to make an additional long-ish video every now and then? Not sure if that's easy to do though. All the best.
Very nice. It reminds me of what I did in my tiny home. I just bought pine furring strips, and used that as flooring in three little buildings I have on my property. Put that pink paper underneath between the plywood and Pine.
I've had it now for 5 years and it's held up really well. Did the same as you staggering the planks. I didn't have any experience either but I thought, what the hell. Enjoying your channel thanks for sharing it with us, all your adventures and projects. Interesting enough I'm headed to the U P this year for the first time I've never been.. happy cruising. Dyan~😊
Hi Dyan, you'll like the UP in summer. It's paradise
@@backwatersandbackroads Hi Brenton, do you have any camping suggestions, campgrounds off the beaten path? Your Shanty boat came out beautiful, you should be proud.😊👋
@222dyan Thank you. We've been on it 8 months now. ;) I do a lot of stealth camping, like on scooter trips. Where are you thinking of going?
@@backwatersandbackroads i understand. It's all new to me up there so I'll probably pick one of the state park campgrounds or National Forests, I'm researching them all now. Take my time and make a loop of the area. If I like it a lot up there I might look for a piece of land with a small cabin too. I have a little A-frame camper so it's small enough to get into little places. Looking forward to seeing your next Shanty boat videos going up the coast. Hope this finds you well. Thanks for taking the time to write. Happy cruising.😊👋🌊
@222dyan those little a frames are neat. I have a small burro I'm working on
how about a fold down table dinette to bed for the extra bed . plus batteries underneath or storage
Man those planks look so much better than that lino haha. As for your furniture situation, have you taken a look at the slat beds people build for their camper van builds? Seems like they'd have very much the same space limitation as you do (if not worse!). They can be made folding, are lightweight and fairly easy to build. Some are pull-out instead of folding. You could even use the same planks you've already bought most likely, if you have enough. Looking forward to the continued adventures of Wavey Gravy and the Beagle Barge!
I love everything you do, I'm in northeast Wisconsin and I plan on making a house boat, so I learn from ya
Door county?
@@backwatersandbackroads not Door county, in the Nicolet national forest up towards The U.P.
@@backwatersandbackroads I like the Turtle Flambeau Flowage, it's awesome, it has Islands with free campsites. It would be an awesome place to take a pontoon house boat, is what I want to build. My ideas get carried away, so I'm trying to keep it reasonable haha. I love the idea.
@@backwatersandbackroads if you draw a straight line between Iron River, MI and Appleton, WI. I'm right in the middle
@@walterriebe1823 nice area.
Love the channel. You often talk about Wavey having to go onshore to "do her business". What about you? What are the sanitary components on the barge for the Captain? Thanks, Bill.
Hi Bill. We keep it pretty simple. A "luggable Luu" or a bucket with a seat on it, with sanitation bags, and most important, another bucket with an air tight screw top lid for holding the bags until they get disposed of.
I am way behind watching videos because I work so much. It has been a while since I had a KBC beer. Was that a Red Jacket? Are you planning a trip to Maine? It is on our list of places to visit. Good luck searching for driftwood. We are looking forward to a future video on your most recent camper purchase. ~Scotty
Lookin good, what about polyurethane or epoxy over top to fill the gaps and make it more water resistant.
Looks great! I guess you're not at all worried about the extra weight of the pine?
Howdy. Thanks! Not worried about weight really. The barge hull design helps. Overall I probably won't come anywhere close to what the hull can handle. The planks are farely light as far as wood goes too.
super sweet ! good video too
I have that same Honda!! It’s a freakin tank but fires up every time, super quiet and have been incredibly happy with it! The floor turned out really nice!! Any plans to put some poly or spar down or leave it natural ?? The only thing I wonder about with the wood stove in the front corner is the risk of thermal shock to the glass….
ok now makes shorts not so bad Build your channel:] Great video thanks...
Wood sealer ,!!!
It wouldn't be that hard to take a metal twin bed frame and mount it on hinges to fold up against that head wall. Murphy bd. Pretty basic and it would save floor space. Or, do as you said and you can use the bed for a couch, also. My advice is worth what you paid for it.
seems the short video's get a lot more views when starting out on you tube
google Homemade Slide out Camper beds. That's solves you problem. Simple to build too " homemade slide out camper bed"
Hi
Hi Logan;)
In all your videos with all your different shanty boats I’ve never seen a pooper. Do you just go in a 5 gallon bucket lol? Serious question
Yeap. A "lug-a-ble lu" I think is what they call them. And those cassette toilets (for compliance) I have an air-head composting toilet that came with the Nomad. I prefer just going out in the woods and digging a hole like 99% of human history. ;) always seemed gross to me to lug ones poop around and rely on a pump out. I did it as a harbor master. Yuck!
Get a footon couch bed
I’ll try not to ramble did you notice in the Shantyboat book he refers to the stringers as streamers
I'll go remind myself. I have a copy on board I'm reading "A Speck on the Sea" right now. Good read if you're looking.
@@backwatersandbackroads cool I’m always looking for a good book..the mind is crazy man..I am wondering whether to buy property or just live in my boat (definitely live on my boat at least in the summer..but I love winter even though I hate her…if I bought property it would be north). Well there you go lol
@@backwatersandbackroads just bought it on Amazon
Did you read the second? Book by Hubbard about his property?
@erikyoutube5692 Payne hollow :) oh yes. Did you see the tour of it we did here a couple months ago?
@@backwatersandbackroads I saw the video pretty cool…love the old stone steps!….I mean really cool
Do it not so it..why don’t I read stuff first..
