  • David Fincher AND Michael Fassbender are back in what feels like a throwback, classic thriller. As the movie's tagline goes, "Execution is everything". After a fateful near-miss, an assassin battles his employers, and himself, on an international manhunt he insists isn’t personal.
Will you be watching "The Killer" in theaters? Have you seen it already? Are you waiting for the November 10th Netflix release? Let me know what you think in the comments below.

If you want to see David Fincher's best 10 minutes, you have to go to the small screen. Mindhunter, season 2, episode 2, about 11 minutes in. Ed Tench interviews a paranoid survivor of the BTK killer. The editing, the sound design, it's simply perfect filmmaking.

Fincher said "I'm very proud of the first two seasons. But it's a very expensive show and, in the eyes of Netflix, we didn't attract enough of an audience to justify such an investment." I guess people just didn't show up in numbers for season 2, which is very sad.

I need to see it again. It doesn't crack his top 5, but it's a cool movie. Slower burn, but still cool. He does have empathy for a few things. There are... times when he could have killed that he didn't, at least 2 times. So it's not totally accurate to say he's a cold, calculated killer.

I watched it yesterday, but wanted to give myself a day with it.
    Spoilers below...
My take is that it's a tale of humanity redemption through revenge - each rule of his code that he breaks, he loses another layer of the persona he has adopted to allow him to do the job. He's not a psychopath - has convinced himself that he is by rote. He wouldn't need to keep reinforcing his code if he were a psychopath - it would come naturally. The ending isn't so much an anticlimax as his final proof that he is ready for a life with his Dominican partner.

Yes. So many times that cold, calculated narration gets interrupted on screen with almost comedic timing. This film is more simple and straightforward than his others, but there is a subtle Fight Club-like twist in that his mantra is all bullshit. The Killer is deeply affected by his lifestyle and is holding his sanity together by a thread.

Just got out, and you sum it up great. I do think the character is an avatar for Fincher himself, not just in his process but also in his personality. From stories and also the behind the scenes videos of his movies, especially Social Network/Girl with Dragon Tatoo, a lot of the humor and snide comments while sick/perverted/violent/psychotic shit is happening was very clear on those sets, and is a lot like this character.
And (minor spoilers), if you think about that with the ending, which did feel quick initially, I feel it is Fincher coming to the conclusion of "I'm just built different," which is really funny.

Haven’t been able to stop thinking about it since.

David Fincher seems to me like a director that didn't completely checked out (or maybe checked in) on his creative potential and talent. After a couple of groundbreaking and iconic movies in the 90's, he settled for very professionally made, very well crafted, but never outstanding movies. Like he has matured as a director, but not in the most interesting of ways, as if he keeps holding back on his creativity and vision, as if he is a little bit burned out as an artist. That's just my opinion. I still like his movies, don't get me wrong, but I always end up expecting more than he delivers.

I've seen many reviews about this film and, until now, they are all praise with variations. Like with a crystal ball some of you fill up the void.
I'm still waiting for someone to not like the movie. I thought you, as a woman, might.
I was disappointed by the movie. Compared to other current movies, it wasn't a bad experience but I was expecting a good one.
We get a lot of information, then Fincher should have gotten his record straight.
From the start, "I don't give a fuck" then 3mn later "Fuck". He fails the kill, in my opinion, like an amateur.
You either don't take the shot because you haven't got a clear shot or you take it because you know at this range it doesn't matter anyway. And you have a second round ready.
You don't get bad or grow a conscience from one day to the next at fifty.
The rest doesn't offset that wrong start.
It seems stupid to me to kill the killer because he missed. Or it is stupid of him to not expect it.
It seems stupid to me to not kill the woman once you started with her (Tilda isn't strong so she should be smart at least, she was there).
It seems stupid to me for a killer for hire to go kill hired killers who hurted a loved one.
And so on...the fight scene...not killing the hirer ?...the chatter...the whole movie is stupid.
I didn't believe, if I don't believe the illusion breaks and I don't enjoy much.
And by the way, stop littering in movies.

Overrated film. My question and this contains spoilers: if this killer is such a perfectionist and professional, even when he botched his mission, why would he not anticipate that his client might pay to have him wiped out? For someone so prepared and someone so meticulous, someone who advises himself to anticipate, how could this scenario be such a surprise? This film is Benjamin Button Fincher.

How stupid, what is he the Mr Bean of assassins ? Mr Magoo would've taken a shot with a person between the shooter and the target...of course they were gonna get in the way, everyone thought they ways he was talkin, he knew his stuff 🙄 and was waiting for a clean shot but nope...totally screwed it up. But had he got the target it would've been end of movie ... nice movie for the high school drama class that wrote the script.

A flawless execution of a flawed and boring narrative.

I was a contract killer for 25 years before retiring and moving to Boca Raton, Florida. Film is okay but too many unrealistic kills. Why use a gun ? Too noisy and messy. 73 of my 91 kills were poisonous chocolate chip cookies. Nobody ever says no to cookies. Hopefully my screenplay of my life will be green-lit soon.

Great channel and reviews, hard to watch though. Too hot to handle, sorry. Not PC, again, sorry. But I'm honest.
