    I was quoted anywhere from $500 to $750 to have airbags installed on my truck. I looked at the directions and decided to give it a try myself. All said and done it cost me about $280 (kit and other bits I needed to do the job, and took about four hours. If you are at all handy, and have a friend, and all the correct pieces before you begin, it should take about two to two and a half hours.

    God bless the you tubers that show all their mistakes. Makes us all feel better about when we do it. These are great kits with heavy components. I just installed a set on a 2008 f350 with a Steelweld service body. I had to do a little work on the brackets with a speedy wheel and also had to drill the frame. The bags made a tremendous difference in handling. The bed and tools probably weigh 7,000 lbs.

    Just started watching your vid here, and I am always visited by Murphy at the wrong time too. When you surprised us with your X lug wrench showing how it snapped apart I could see that exact thing happening to me and felt what you felt at the time. You had my empathy throughout..
    Good video with good advice on the install.
    I just ordered mine from Amazon. Will be having my own fun next week. Oh, I bought this because Iive in my van, and the passenger side leaf spring had snapped on the top leaf 8 inches from the end. The second leaf was just resting on the underside of the broken top piece pointing up still attached to the shackle. Lovely fun that I get to do next week.
    Already got my replacement leaf spring in from Texas to Calif for $107 with Free shipping! Aheadb of then came so far...but I know Murphy is lurking around somewhere getting ready to pounce .... 😠🙃😉😎

    You forgot to use the spacer on the left side of the driver's side bottom bracket and the spacer on the right side of the passenger side bottom bracket to make it level with the frame. As you have it, the airbags are way off from the frame of the truck.

    With your audio besides being outside you have an Audio Gain Control feature which will hiss like that if you don't speak. Depending on what camera/camcorder you have some people that have made a feature to defeat that and get rid of the AGC.

    Thank you for your how-to and how-not-to video. I am just a regular guy trying to be handy (will probably go buy some jack stands and a right-angle drill for this project). Luckily my F-150 doesn't have a fender well cover! I just wanted to comment how awesome your idea of putting the valves through the license plate is. I will copy you! Probably going to hook up an on-board wireless air compressor, as well. Did you ever end up adding that to your system?

    • @FernbarkFrist
      @FernbarkFrist  Před 9 lety

      ***** Thanks for watching. I think the valve through the license plate trick was in the directions, so no real awesomeness on my part. I pretty much only use the truck for hauling loads, so I leave it aired up. I don't think I will add a compressor. If you have all the parts (especially new drill bits) and a friend, this is about a two hour job.

  • @derJackistweg
    @derJackistweg Před 7 lety +2

    all extra weight sits on the helper spring, that's not going to work. It should sit on the axle. on the top end weight should sit on the frame, here its 2 bolts. the bracket should sit on the frame, not just 2 bolts.

    • @Pilinchi1
      @Pilinchi1 Před 7 lety +1

      From a logic standpoint I think his setup will work just fine but the only difference is that the air bags will probably need a little bit less air as it's connected to the helper springs than if it was connected from the frame to the axle. Post the link of what you have done so we can see.

      @gn9654 Před 7 lety

      I recently re-installed my air bags but when I installed them back on, I compressed them down, I had to make new holes, the new holes still lower on the frame. Now, when you air it, the suspension raises now. I think there is a flaw on the air lift instructions. When you have extra time, give it a shot.

      Not with this system. You can add a compressor kit to it, but it won't lift your truck. All it will do is return a sagging back end to level.
