      Oh, please. Smog is a thing of the past, we've conquered several pandemic diseases, the North American continent has undergone massive reforestation, and all you can do is _complain_?
      When I was a child, this song sounded soooo significant. Now I see it for the crabbed, pessimistic tripe it is. Humanity has been around for at least a quarter-million years. 2525 is only 500 years away. 500 years ago Europe had just landed on the American continents. Humanity's greatest time still lay ahead.
      You ain't seen nothin' yet.

      Caseytify That's irrelevant. All the major advances have taken place in the last two thousand years and especially in the last few hundred since the industrial revolution. If we keep going the way we are, humanity won't make it to 2525. To not acknowledge that we are destroying the planet and ourselves in the process is delusional. Pessimism has nothing to do with it.

    • @SexyAlien2
      @SexyAlien2 Před 4 lety +6

      I love this song as well, but the message is really not ahead of its time. All the ideas that are put forth in the song were really in the spirit of the time, and had been for at least 70 years.
      The song is about the impact of technology on mankind, but that's been a concern since technology started making wild advances in the 1800's. Since then, the idea that technology could eat away our humanity has been portrayed over and over in books and movies : Metropolis (1927), Brave New World (1931), A Space Odyssey (1968), etc. It's a really common trope.
      The song would have been ahead of its time if it anticipated an environmental crisis or something along those lines.

      you have a I watching everything you do whether it's at the grocery store on your laptop or phone which tracks all your movements. And it's now creating a algorithm for your social credit score. Everyone has social media now and they don't have to be seen. Many individuals thoughts and actions are controlled by the pills they take today as they were then. And according to Jeff Bezos at the world economic conference in Saudi Arabia they're going to have to give everyone who's left a subsistence check because they have robots to do everyone's job. Yhis was a few years ago he said within the next 5 years. And by the way Sofia Turn 6 next February. And yes you can pick your child sex hair and eye color among other things. Perhaps not in the US but China is doing it. And through corporate greed which all the politicians around the world have their investments in. They go from one natural resource too another. From sinking holes in the ground for oil too larger open-pit mines for copper. And the open-pit mines they also get the Rare Earth elements for the magnets and lithium. There really is only one final Act which obviously hasn't happened yet that's God's judgment.

      @Rex84 yeah but he wasn’t helping the fight because he was telling people there was no God but he should be telling people the Satanist are working together while the others are not in the reason the others have unity is because they have their God and the reason Christians have their unity is because they have their God. Finding unity is there any essential part of humanity. You don’t wanna do it for the Darkside. If you’re going to untie people from Christianity you might as well tell them the truth about it while you untie them. There really was an individual who came and shook up the Roman empire so badly that they lost military control and had to go to a religious form to keep control of the people. The Bible was written 300 years after they murdered this person and they could say whatever they wanted to say about him. Do I believe in a virgin birth? No. That was paganism. Do I see how the Christian religion is based around the worship of the sun and the 12 signs of the zodiac? I most definitely do. Do I believe that somebody came and shook up the same power structure that is still in control of the world today. I most certainly do. I can prove the case that the Roman empire never lost its power. The part of Christianity that I like to investigate is biblical prophecy. But to turn people off of God and not turn them on to the truth and the actual avenues of very much interest within the scope of religious study is the problem I have with George carlin.

      @Rex84 It is a dichotomy. You were either with the girl or with the bad. The creator of the universe is the only God. All of our souls were created somehow. Our human bodies are not the eternal. You have to identify as a soul and then ask, where did the soul come from. Then you consider the big bang theory in which everything was known and then scattered only to come back to itself. That is the game we are playing. You were either creating or destroying. Doing nothing is essentially using the system and is thus destruction.

Not to mention allergies, many of which hardly existed a few hundred years ago. Because pretty much everything we eat, drink, wear, slather on our bodies (whether it's perfume, moisturiser, make up, deodorant) and breathe (traffic fumes, air fresheners) contains a cocktail of lethal chemicals. Oh yes, they're all currently deemed "safe", but in 100 years time, future generations will look back on us and be appalled at what was permitted for human consumption. Seeing a young lady like yourself listening to music this old is so awesome. 😀
    It would be best to look at what it is trying to say. If you look at the right video that is black and white, it was done back in the 1900s, telling what will happen if we continue living the way we are... The song came out in the 1960's. The actual video from the 1900s shows what civilization's going to happen. Not too long ago, in the 1980s, At that time, we used to say hello to Stanger in the streets or say good morning. Those times are gone. Because now we say good morning to our phones. We go out on a date and look at our phones; every moment we have, we look at our phones like we are slaves to them. The generation of the 2000s has devoted their life to technology. Now, we live in a time of selfishness. It's all about us. It is sad to see that humanity has fallen short of human kindness.

    Painting a picture of a dismal future for mankind. This song, along w/ Lay Lady Lay (Dylan) & Dock of The Bay (Otis Redding), was on the charts when I was in an air wing aboard a carrier Home ported at NAS Alameda, Calif. We were in training for active duty off the coast of N. Vietnam where we dumped tons of bombs on N Vietnam & Laos. This song always takes me back to that time. "We have taken everything this old earth has to give & we ain't put back nothin". We need to be reminded that everything that we are physically comes from the earth. All the minerals, chemicals, & water that makes up our body comes from the planet. If not for 6" of topsoil, rain, & photosynthesis none of us would be here, absolutely none.

    Denny Zager and Rick Evans met at Nebraska Wesleyan University in 1962. They were joined by drummer Danny Schindler (later of the Benders) in the Nebraska band the Eccentrics until Schindler's tour of Vietnam in 1965. Evans also left in 1965 and reunited with Zager in 1968.
    As Zager and Evans, the duo were backed by another Nebraska native, Mark Dalton, on bass. Their first drummer, Paul Maher, was later replaced by another Nebraskan, Dave Trupp. Trupp and Dalton were also the rhythm section in the Liberation Blues Band and backed Evans on some solo demo material prior to Zager and Evans's recording of "In the Year 2525" in 1968.

    At the time that this song was released for radio play ... it was so "Deep" in the meaning that lots and people didn't like it or understand it, I sure didn't ... I was just a kid. Later on ... when I reached my teens, I sort of understood it but still had a lot of questions. It was in my mid teens that my older sister (she was 10 years older) sat down the me and we listened to the record she had ( It was a 45 ... which the now generation says " a 45?" ... 45 what? ... LOL ... Google it ... it will explain better than I can) and she answer my questions and gave me her interpretation of the song. She was "spot on"!

    The song I am old enough to remember when released in 1969 and none of what they were singing about was even a reality yet except in science fiction... not even the first test-tube baby, robotics, even a Matrix type nod with the pill. It was a song that scared the poop out of many but it was also a great song by itself. Some saw the two artists as visionaries and the timeline is off as these things are now happening around us way ahead of schedule.
