I'm sick of both sides of the GMO debate not acknowledging Monsanto's unethical practice and monopoly in handling GMO.
It's unfortunate that 'celeb' scientists like Bill Nye ended up being shills for these corporations because *SCIENCE!!*.

Monsanto does not "use" GMOs, they sell them to farmers who are eager to get them.
GMOs via breeding or natural selection is good. However mixing potatoes DNA with parts of fish's DNA so that they can withstand better the cold is criminal. DNA functions are not modular, you can't take one part of it and think "oh this will only help with the cold".
That's why cancers keep coming up.

Yep, GMOs are not inherently evil, same with all science. It all depends on what they are used for.
For instance, look at nerve agents, concentrated enough they could kill millions, yet dilute versions are used in insecticides. Likewise with nitroglycerine, it can be used as an explosive but in certain massively dilute forms it is a heart medication. Science is kinda funny that way.

Only one quack fraud scientist, Seralini, claimed to have found that but his study was retracted in shame after fraud was discovered with it. I'm no biologist but if it were possible to make a crop need less water and naturally pest resistant then I'm all for it being grown. But I have huge problems with shady business practices no matter what the business is. I love capitalism but companies like Monsanto are basically doing stuff you'd find in a he tai to capitalism.
It would be awesome if the crop only needed less water. The problem is that the crop sometimes develops different "features" due to Monsanto aggressive DNA manipulation. Usually those features are not welcomed (diseases, etc)
Quick thing: Monsanto split in the 2000s, so the chemical company is separate from the plant company.
My FFA chapter got a tour of one of their facilities in high school and it was actually really neat
just because its a GMO doesn't make it bad. making a GMO for nutrition and yield isn't bad. Its when they make a GMO to better resist pesticides and then use more is when its bad.

However Monsanto does not use crossing. They use DNA manipulation. Cancers are literally cells with DNA altered. So yeah, I think I see a connection.

Also another sin: Monsanto "donated" seeds to poor regions of India (and I think Africa?) for many years until these regions became heavily reliant on the crops they produced. After they became so reliant, Monsanto began to charge these regions for more seeds leading to the suicides of 300,000 Indian farmers within 20 years (as they are in debt..). This video should add 300,000+ sins.

A couple of years ago there was a TV commercial of Rounddup here in Argentina, trying to convince us with silly cartoon animation. Also, we have huge plantations of soy that destroy the ground and take away their nutrients for ever. The worst part: we don't even eat soy, we export it to others countries (for example China) meanwhile a handful of businessmen and the plantation owners fill their pockets with money :(

In my country (a third world one) they prohibited the use of any other seed not produced by Monsanto. They called them the certified seed and all the crops that grew from other seed cultivated by farmers were thrown INTO THE TRASH. TONS OF PERFECTLY OK QUALITY FOOD THROWN AWAY. Of course, the farmers lost what they cultivated so they didn't make any money to buy certified seeds creating a cycle of unsustainability and worsening their already bad economic situation. Monsanto has contributed to making my people poorer, more hungry and ripping apart what food sovereignty we had left.
