Ah, yes!! My home line!! Since the early 1950s, this has been the very first subway line I rode on, living in the Bronx. My station was St. Lawrence. Thanks to your video, I relive riding in the first car, nose glued to the window, enjoying the view. As I got older, noticing the signalling and trackwork, and sometimes when the motorman would crack open his door on warm summer days, letting you peek inside as he worked the "deadman" throttle and the air brake handle, I gained an appreciation for this incredible people mover in NYC. The older cars of times past allowed such a pleasure, today's cars deny the passenger of that pleasure. Once again, we fans of the NYC subway truly appreciate these videos!! It would have been nice if it was possible to take the City Hall loop beyond the Brooklyn Bridge station and ride through and see the beauty of that station, the first station that inaugurated the IRT in October of the year 1904. Thank you for this special video of the subway line dear to me!!

I was born and raised in New York City and as a child my grandmother and I would visit my aunt in Rockaway, we lived on Clay Avenue and would walk from E 174th street below the Grand Concourse and travel changing trains many times. Today this would be a challenge for me I'm now diabetic and have neuropathy in both legs and have to use a Walker. In those days there were no handicapped access, not sure now. Today I live in the desert southwest Las Vegas, NV. I'm today in my late 60,s. I can remember the old trains that had no a/c and a fan that if you were lucky can get comfortable otherwise it blew hot air. I'm confident today improvements have been made. Unlike most train rides this one doesn't mention the next stop, so if you miss the writing of the stop unless you back track you kinda lose out. Again good to ride along and I will comment as I check out other rides. Again Thank You for posting 😊

...and thank you for sharing. It's heartwarming to know that the video was able to bring you back to a time/history you shared with, not just the subway but the city. The system has done a lot of improvements in the years since then and they are a lot more accessible stations for individuals overcoming the challenges that you shared. Along with the improvements, so has the equipment and thankfully the cars have a/c this time around. Looking forward to you sharing more history and/or memories on other videos and we thank you again for tuning in all the way from NV. 🫶🫡🏆

That was a fun trip on the 6 local train. I noticed a couple of abandoned stops along the way, I think one of them was the old Astor Place station. Many years ago, I went with a group of other folks for an escorted tour called Day One on the IRT. It was sponsored by the New York Transit Museum. We explored the old Astor stop. While our tour guide was describing the place. I heard a couple of quick snaps in the tunnel. (track switches!). Moments later, a southbound 5 express train featuring the Redbirds was booking it to the next express stop. A gap in the third rail provided lightning-like flashes in the tunnel! What a rush that was!! Before the exploration of the old Astor Place stop, we took the ride to the former City Hall station and got off there to explore the place, then took another train to the Brooklyn Bridge station. The transit museum folks had a tour of City Hall station years earlier, around the 1990's. Good to see the R-62's getting some action on this trip. I liked the early evening trip, it was a nice change of pace form the daytime rides. Thanks again for another great video.

At 125th ST., there is a magnificent set of interweavings of tracks. The local 6 train is always on the left side of the platform, and the express 4 or 5 is always on the right side of the platform, in either direction. I will have to draft out on paper the junction some time. It's almost as complicated as DeKalb Ave junction. Aarre Peltomaa p.s. There are several mostly unused pocket tracks for emergencies, or temporary storage, or unusual in service movements.

6 train extension from Pelham Bay, I know im a bit annoying with these but idc lets get into it
Would go back underground, and the 6 would go under Bruckner Expressway.
Would follow it until it gets to Bartow Avenue, making a stop there.
Bartow Ave - accessible, side platform, ordinary design, and connection to the Bx25, Bx26, Bx28, Bx38, Bx5, Bx23, Q50, and the Bx12 SBS.
The 6 would leave Bartow in a simple, normal tunnel, and fast speeds. There would be service, in the middle third track passing Bartow.
The 6 would keep going along New England Thruway, since it merged with Bruckner Expressway.
It would make a tiny turn to stop at Baychester Avenue.
Baychester Ave - Co-Op City - last stop, island platform, (6), , accessible, modern artistic design and tiles, connection to the Bx23, Bx25, Bx26, Bx28, Bx30, and the Bx38.
Since this is a very short extension, I won’t put in announcements.
    Buh - Bye!

The R-62 is my happy place. You're probably never going to get a better A Div car. NYCT should just forego new replacements and just rebuild them to run for another 30 years. They'd save a ton of $$$ and be rewarded by the public and media for being frugal with the public dime.

    • @leecornwell5632

They gonna definitely be getting the brand new R262/AS to replace all the R62AS R62S on the 1 3 6 S lines in a few more years for CBTCS. Start appciating the R62AS back on the Pelham 6 line one more time. You know that the R62AS can not handle CBTCS. I love the R62AS on the Pelham 6 line myself just like they had the Redbirds on the 2 5 4 6 7 lines.

    • @urbsinhorto
      @urbsinhorto Před rokem

@@leecornwell5632 CBTC tech could easily be installed in a hypothetical rebuilding program. You don't need a brand new NTT (New Tech Train) to replace fine running rolling stock like the R-62 when a rebuild with added tech would be sufficient for another several decades. Subway cars aren't spaceships. An ounce of thrift on MTA's part could save multi-millions by rebuilding instead of going brand new. The practice of complete rolling stock replacement has more to do with having a majority of the capital costs covered while a rebuilding effort may not recieve sufficient funding, or at least would pose a more complicated negotiation with the Feds and state. Public perception also comes into play though I think that totally overblown and likely driven by media. "A forty year old car!" "A fifty year old car!" "A sixty year old car!" "OMG, THE SKY IS FALLING!" For most people a CLEAN exterior and interior with cosmetic modernizations, new seating, bright lighting and signage is much more tangible than whether the frame and skin are decades old. Let's be honest, most riders wouldn't know how new or old the R-62 even is.
Hell, the R-32s could have been justifiably rebuilt for a second time with new tech and cosmetically updated cab ends that could've run another couple decades for much less than new procurement. NYCT is unlikely to ever have as fine a car on the B Division.

Thanks for sharing you extremely valid opinion. The train is one of the greatest trains to ever grace the system and we appreciate your love for it; we are sure there are many that also share the same sentiments. We imagine that as the city system continues to do their work to make the system faster, this train will eventually cost more to update than it would to bring in newer trains. There is no doubt that work can be done to make these current trains faster but we imagine as the companies themselves start to advance their technology, getting those parts for this train may become harder and harder. It would be sad to see it go and it will always be in the memories of many NYC Subway rail fans but we won't speed up that process; we will enjoy and appreciate the fact that we are able to experience it.

I've been on those 6 trains my entire life! And usually until 28th street, during my railtrips to Nintendo World At Rockefeller Center, I'm usually playing Super Mario 3D World+Bowser's Fury saving the sprixies and the entire world from Bowser and his evil minions; and bring them to justice! And after I get whatever game for my Nintendo Switch, and when I get back onto the 6 train, I'm going to be reading my book by James Patterson to give me some knowledge! Because in the video game world; KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!

"Knowledge is Power!" That is a true statement that we believe doesn't only exist in video games, but in life as well. Thank you for sharing your experience with us and it is an honor to bring you the 6 train from this angle. Did you catch the ending? How'd you like it?

Thanks for this ride and the special feature of abandoned original city hall platform at the end, I’ve also noticed abandoned 18th and worth streets along the line 🫡

If possible when you post the next video can you give the date and time it was shot? I am attempting to figure out what day this one was done since we had very little snow this year

Well if it's the 6, the added bonus would be the screeching turn around the City Hall loop.

I just have a question in mind and what if In the NYC subway tunnels and elevated swapped places if that were to happen that means almost the entirely of Manhattan would be elevated since the e is entirely underground it would be elevated and in the Bronx (7th Ave line) on the 1 if elevated and tunnels swapped places than the 125 st and dyckman - Van Cortland park 242 st would be underground and the Lexington Ave line the underground portion swapped with elevated than the abandoned station city hall would be interesting to see how it would look like elevated just a curious thought

A valid curious thought and valid questions. This is one we would love to see the engineers use their genius to answer as we are sure should any of your suggestions be possible, they will be the ones that could make it happen; we look forward to the positive changes yet to come and are interested to seeing how close they get, should they get there, to your suggestion. 💯🫡
