You are great at making me feel like I could do anything to my own truck! You made it simple enough broke down things I love that!
Subscribe to you cause I’m sure you’ll be able to help me one day I have a 2013 Cascadia DD15!
Keep being awesome 🫶🏾🫡🙏🏾
You got this. Little bit of confidence and the right tool goes a long way.
I need to watch a video how to replace AC thermostats cab& sleeper. Your videos are amazing! Thank you
Buying my thermostat now and Diy ing this job on my truck … thanks for the video
For a second there I thought that you were teaching us how to make a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. lol ! Thanks Diesel Dr. for this thermostat replacement educational video on a DD15 engine! Greatly appreciated! 👍👍
Sandwich making will come in the next video the things you could do with peanut butter, ham and a side of hot dog water. Appreciate the Positive feedback.
You did amazing brother
Thanks man. I can’t take all the credit. It was just a good hair day for me.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 we need more videos brother!!
@@la2toronto789 I feel you there. GTA quit slacking. Glad someone noticed though.
Thank you brother.. 👍👍
Great video! I had to replace mine last summer. I had to unplug the fan clutch solenoid so i can get home with the hot running truck. I also installed a home made fan switch after that.
Smart thinking with keeping the fan on. Most people would not of thought of that approach. You have that hustler mentality and that will save you so much $$ in the end.
Thank you brother REALLY appreciate your videos . 🤜🤛
you make life easy 💯💯💯
Tank you ❤muy bien esplicado 😅
Just discover this channel and it’s good
Always appreciate that positive feedback. Hopefully this content proves useful to you and saves you that $$$
Great video, thanks for the info.
JD, the next time you pull off a P4 interior door trim panel (like maybe for a glass or latch repair), would you film the removal process? Getting behind the door is something some folks do to upgrade/replace the door speakers, etc. And you know how trim is - lots of little plastic fasteners, and there's always a trick to it. I know it's not as manly a job as something engine-related, but I haven't seen anyone else do it yet, and I'm betting you do it once in a while...
Great idea. Next time I’m in I’ll try to have a camera ready.
Hello how is the proper way to flush the coolant and drain the hole water from dd15 thank you love your videos i change a lot of stuf by watching your videos thank you
Always appreciate that positive feedback man. To flush the cooling system drain the radiator and drain the block from the nipple on the driver side Midway. Add a bottle of restore cooling system cleaner and the rest water till the systems full. Than run hot till thermostat openes up. Than flush with just water same way. Than fill will coolant when water looks clear and the issue was resolved.
Is there anyway you can share your contacts or the shop where you work?
You are the best mechanic ever! And I’ll be happy to know your contacts just in case if I’ll need to repair my truck. We run NJ to AZ on car hauler, and I’ll definitely need your help in the future.
Thanks for watching and reaching out.You know I cant do it without support form you guys.. I would deff like to be the one working on your truck but for now I dont have a shop of my own yet and not at one I can mention on here. But I do hope these vids give you the insight to common repairs and how things should be done behind the scenes. Knowledge is power right. Stay safe and stay grinding out there.
Thanks man
Hey there, I’m a subscriber and I enjoy watching your content. By any chance do you have a video on how to go about repairing a common issue with Cascadias that have a DT12 transmission where the RPM’s flare up out of no where when shifting through gears? Is there something internally and mechanically wrong with the transmission or is it a simple part that needs to be replaced from the exterior? Any advice would help at least with knowing the name of the part that needs replacement and location of where it’s at if it’s an exterior part. Thanks!
Thanks for watching and out. I don’t have much on the trans side of things as I don’t do much work on those anymore. I like to call it, moved up.. but with the dt12 it’s very common to have the rpm flare ups. All the components to the trans are made internally so they don’t make things easy to replace like it used to be. Unfortunately you would need diag software to be able to test all the trans components and for that flare up it’s usually a split pin bushing on the rail that fails not allowing it to shift properly. Sadly it’s a known issue and dealers cornerd the market with making specialty tools for it. Hope that helps some.
❤❤❤👍
Can you make a video on how to replace hanger (center) bearings on drive shaft
I have a truck that only overheats only going uphill, nothing stationary, not even if I put it through a regen. Any idea?
I have a 2013 freightliner with a dd15, will this be the same procedure to replace mine? you should do a video on how to replace the water pump
JD, I know you’ve done this several times, but which is your best video to watch for taking off the front bumper of a New Cascadia? I want to see if I can open the cutouts to put in fog lamps. My truck was supposed to have them but doesn’t, but I have the dash switch.
Good question man. I would look at my page and check out one of the earlier videos. I know I went into detail on maybe my first 10 vids. But that is a good idea , il do a vid on just the removal and install of a bumper.
I have found that sometimes switches are there and no wiring is there. So before anything I’d look around for wiring first. If not it may complicate things a bit
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thanks. I checked PartsPro and thought the harness had the pigtails but I’ll check again. Obviously looking at the truck is the better way!
I'm so confused. Driving my freightliner cascadia and it took forever this morning to warm up to operating temp...then after driving it ended up overheating....could a bad thermostat get stuck in both the open AND closed positions?
That would be very unlikely but possible. I would lean towards your overheating issue and t/s that.
Hey have a question, truck got to 220 water temp, fan never went into high, just had new radiator out in, what would you check first. Thanks
Great question. At 220ish the fan turns on and should drop temps. I would want to ensure the fan comes on and when it does I would want to know how good the flow is through the cooling package. Such as putting a large piece of cardboard on the grill when the fan is on and seeing if it holds. That’s where I’d start.
Great video. After replacing the thermostat and filling everything back up, do you still need to plug in the computer to remove any codes? Keep in mind I didn’t get no codes just that my temperature was not getting hot enough. Sorry my ignorance but I’m new to trucking and Im learning as I go.
Thanks for reaching out man. If you didn’t get codes in the first place then there Is nothing to worry about. Nothing to erase. Hope that fixes your issue.
What up bro, got a 2016 Freightliner my temperature gauge goes up and down from 100 to 200 stays at 180 to 200 sometime then other times bounce up and down no codes on truck got 579,000 miles could the thermostat be my problem
I have open thermastat code but engine oil temperature is 214-223 degrees in 90 plus degree- 216 degrees on flat roads-
Your thermostat maybe be sticking partially open and that’s why it’s throwing this code. It’s recognizing an issue and is over correcting for it. Replace that thermostat.
Question i have a 2016 freightliner it over heats when im going up the hill but when im on flat and ease my foot off the pedal it cools down a little
Great question and more than likely you issue comes down to a few senerios. Radiator is plugged with debris and needs a blow/wash out. Coolant pump is worn and not keeping up. Or fan is slipping and not engulfing properly. One of those is more than likely your issue.
There's my busted knuckle homeboy
Been hiding for a while, seeing if anyone noticed. Turns out I’m like the groundhog scared of his own shadow.
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 glad you're back it gets boring watching all the successful owner operators bash each other on you tube.
How long does it take from start to finish book rate? From shit off the engine to starting it back up.
If your talking about just the water pump repair than warranty is 2.8 but don’t expect to pay that at any shop.
I have a dd15 and I’m seeing oil seep out slowly from under and behind my thermostat. It’s running down the side of the engine but I never see any on the ground What could that be?
Thanks for reaching out. The two most common points of oil loss by thermostat are the oil pressure sensor and the oil coolant module mounting gasket. I would say clean it off , run a regen and you’ll most likely find your issue right away.
Hey brother I had long block with all new part on the 2012 cascadia. 560HP. Tuned
Issue im having is truck stay 140 driving loaded or empty but when in idle temp go to 175. And then driving back to 140 I covered it cardboard not its goes to 165.
I have chnaged 2 thermostat about to changed 3 rd.
And yesterday fan came while driving in cold. And my trip was 100 and fan stayed now for almost 40min. And then finally I pulled over and unplug the selinoid and restart the truck fan stoped running .. weird
Not getting stuck on traffic with load . Temp goes to 220 and fan comes on.
But moving smooth at 70 to 75 MPG. Still temp 140 to 165 with cardboard.
Please advice I am going change the thermostat today.
Please help.. Thank you
hey my temperature gauge goes up and down while im driving. from 0 to 200 then 160 to zero coudl this be my problem but truck doesn't give me any codes
No , I would think you have a wiring issue or gauge issue.
Thks bro!!!!
What’s the bolt torque?
What size torque clamp did you use?
I’m not sure what the size is but the part # I believe is CT 300 LS
Ok cool thank you
Are there intervals for replacement? Or should we always wait for the code?
Great question , I don’t believe there is an interval for this but I like to always recommend doing things at 500k mi. If it hasent failed yet then half a million is a perfect time to do it along with other items.
Today My 2020 cascadia fun clutch ddidnt engaged. Engine overheated(220 f). And fun clutch still was not engaging. No engine lights on. Whats going on my cascadia :((((
By the way my cascadia engine's fun clutch working properly. I unpluged fun clutch selenoid wiring. And fan worked.
Pleasee heeelp
@@mehmetdurmaz2974 great question and thanks for reaching out. 220 is actually normal operation for your dd15. Once it gets past 220 your fan will come on and drop temps hopefully 20 degrees. If u unplugged ur solenoid and ur fan engaged than you know it’s working. So was ur cel or stop eng light on because it not than ur fine. These do hover close to the red.
What’s the torque spec?
Great question. 22ft lbs would be the spec
@@bustedknucklebydieseldr3228 thanks
My bottom hose was cold change the thermostat still doing the same thing change the water pump still doing the same thing these trucks are junk
