Ørestad is a developing city area on the island of Amager in Copenhagen, Denmark. The area was developed using the new town concept and is closely linked to the Copenhagen Metro's M1 line. Economically, the plan's income would be generated by selling public-owned, unused land for development, thereby financing the metro's construction, and, conversely, metro access was deemed necessary for making development appealing. While the metro is the primary mode of public transportation, the area is also served by the Øresund railway between Copenhagen and Malmö, the E20 highway, and is close to Copenhagen Airport. The DR Village (headquarters of the national Danish broadcaster DR), the Copenhagen Concert Hall designed by Jean Nouvel, Field's (the largest shopping mall in Denmark), Bella Center (the largest exhibition and conference center in Scandinavia), and Bella Sky Hotel, the largest hotel in Scandinavia are all located in Ørestad.
