    While you’d think all of that would be enough to ensure a solid and supportive sibling relationship, apparently it wasn’t. There was a long stretch of time when the two Meadows sisters were jealous of each other’s success and weren’t close at all. It oddly coincided with the two marriages they had - Jayne to TV legend Steve Allen, and Audrey to the Chairman of Continental Airlines, Robert Six. In this video, we dive into this sibling rivalry, as well as take a look at the life and career of both Audrey and Jayne Meadows. It’s certainly a disappointing thing when two successful siblings aren’t as close as they could be. Hollywood can be a cutthroat and lonely place as it is. So it’s certainly sad when two people who could be an active support system for each other end up being rivals and hating each other. And of course, it’s hard to gauge which one of the sisters achieved more Fame.
    Jayne stood out as a film and TV star and appeared on many panel shows. She also appeared many times in both live and filmed settings with her legendary husband, Steve Allen. But Audrey achieved legendary status herself with her role of Alice Kramden on the seminal sitcom, The Honeymooners. As you’ll find out, over the years the two were able to put their feud aside and become friends again. So check out this video today to find out the reason Audrey Meadows hated her own sister for years.

    As a kid I watched “The Honeymooners.” Any actor, or actress who could hold his or her own with Jackie Gleason was way above average in talent. I once saw a show where Jackie and Bob Hope were on screen together. It was as if Bob was not there. So for Audrey to make her character so important was certainly a testament to her skill. In my estimation she made the show!

    I'm a retired inflight steward from old Continental Airlines and I worked during the time Audrey was married to Robert F. Six. She designed our inflight crew's uniforms in the late 1960's along with aircraft interiors, etc. Continental was known as the "airline of the stars" back then. Audrey was a wonderful lady, too.

    I was, and still am a huge fan of the Honeymooners! Audrey Meadows and Art Carney were my Favorites! To this Day my 32 year old Daughter will refer me as “Norton” if I’m taking too long to do something! 😂 In 1988, I was working for a Beer Distributor and ordering beer for a small grocery store in Beverly Hills. When I came out of the store, I saw Audrey Meadows open the trunk of her car to put her groceries in. I said, “Miss Meadows, I Love Your work, let me put those in for you!” As I was loading them, she lit a cigarette. I did say, “ now you need to stop that, we want you around for a long time.” She smiled and thanked me for loading her groceries for her. She was so sweet. I cherish the memory of meeting her. She was so talented! Her banter with Mr. Gleason was extraordinary! My Daughter’s favorite series is The King of Queens. She certainly sees the parallels between that show and the Honeymooners. I’m grateful I grew up when I did! RIP Honeymooners!🙏

    There was a scene on one of the so-called "lost" episodes, where they were practicing for an appearance on "Beat The Clock", where Gleason, who is going around yelling and throwing up his arms, clearly throws Audrey off, and she forgets her lines for a moment. He was probably ad-libbing some of it. Her reaction was one of the funniest things I've ever seen on television, and it was so real you would think you weren't even watching TV, but real people. Gleason did pull back and give her a chance to recover. It's interesting that the two sisters, who were both successful, would have a rivalry. If one was successful and the other wasn't, you'd understand it better.

    Interesting! I have been watching the Honeymooners since the mid 70's, but I didn't know Audrey had a sister until I watched this video. By watching this video it looks like Jayne was the bigger star, but Audrey was the prettiest of the two. I am still watching the Honeymooners reruns to this day. Hey FV, thanks for uploading this video, and I'm glad that I learned Audrey had a sister from watching this video. May they RIP.

    It can be very hard for two siblings of the same gender to not have some rivalry, especially if they happen to be going for the same parts. Many years ago Beau and Jeff Bridges were both trying to get the same part in a movie. This was heavily played up in teen magazines at the time. I have no idea how it played out after Beau got the part. Olivia De Haviland and Joan Fontaine had a very famous sibling rivalry that, from what I've read, was heavily instigated by their mother.
    Even siblings who work together have problems. The Everly Brothers split up their act when one punched the other on stage. The Smothers Brothers went through relationship counseling. OTOH, you never heard about fighting within the Mills Brothers, the Lennon Sisters, or the Marx Brothers. I suspect a lot of it had to do with the way each one had their own role within the group, rather than being in competing roles. There was even one time where the Marx Brothers were testing out A Day at the Opera in San Francisco when a couple of the brothers (I think it was Groucho and Chico, although it might've been Chico and Harpo) decided to swap roles for kicks.

    • @RRaquello
      @RRaquello Před rokem

      About the Marx Brothers, I gathered, from reading about them and from Groucho's own words that he had an intense dislike for Zeppo. I don't know why, and it was never really explained. You wouldn't think there'd be a rivalry between those two because of the difference in ages (Zeppo was about 8 years younger), but there was something, though it seems to have been more on Groucho's part than Zeppo's. Groucho also had a long term beef with Chico, because of Chico's gambling addiction, which forced the other brothers to support him financially and to take on movie roles Groucho didn't want to do. Another sibling rivalry was the Dorsey Brothers, who had their own band together at the beginning, split up into rival bands, but seemed to reconcile before both died within a few months of each other.
