Times were so different in those days. So polite, well spoken, with poise and elegance.... how we have lost those attributes in today's age 😥
To think that a carton of Winston's was a prize really shows how things have changed
These old shows are so entertaining. They show you how much society has progressed in many ways and digressed in other ways.
Loved Dino's mom...reminds me of the ladies in my neighborhood when I was a kid, what a neat lady!
I have seen this video before. I watched it again just so I could watch Yul Brynner's sister. Her talent is hypnotic.
"She's had the pleurisy..." and then she walks out with a carton of winstons. holy toledo the past was surely something.
And Yul Brynner's sister got a carton, too. Yul later died of lung cancer and before his death warned people not to smoke. The American Cancer Society turned that film clip into a powerful ad after his death.

I don’t think there was much known about the connection between smoking and health problems at that time. Most or all of the medical doctors at our clinic had packs of cigarettes in their shirt pockets. They quit when it became obvious that smoking could cause health problems.
@@zoowriter4654 yes I remember learning about doctors actually telling pregnant women to take up smoking to curb food cravings, I was just remarking on how different things are now. Same thing with the radium girls.
Growing up, smoking from age 12, watching my heavy smoking 59 year old grandmother die of lung cancer, the controversy was always “is there actual proof smoking causes cancer”… Later it was revealed that the tobacco industry had deliberately hidden the damaging truth from the public in the interests of sales and profits.
I spit out my drink when he said here is your cash prize and two cartons of Winston. Classic!!!
Betsy Palmer is known as Jason Voorhees’ mother in Friday the 13th movies and was the last survivor of the original I’ve Got a Secret panel (died 2015) Also, Judy Lewis was Loretta Young’s and Clark Gable’s daughter and you can see the resemblance of both!
I was just 5 yrs old when my mom, Vera, was on this show. I can't remember at that age if I actually watched it. It was so wonderful to see this clip! Many thanks for sharing this!
@@kellylynneden1977, she died at age 51 in 1967. Did she die because she smoked a carton too many of those Winstons?
@@decline2state She did not smoke. But Yul was a smoker and died @ 65 from lung cancer. And, of course, that PSA “Just don’t smoke!” Did they use the Magnificent 7 theme for the Winston commercial? (Have to see if I can find it on youtube.) I can’t recall.
Dean Martin loved his mom so much. He died on the same date as her. Christmas Eve. Different years.
I thought he died Christmas Day and it was his mother-in-law, who lived with the family, died on Christmas Day a few years before.
Compared to the crap on television these days , this was real entertainment 👏👏👏
Dean Martin’s mother should have received the full money prize since the audience reaction gave the answer away.
How did they not get it from "pasta fagioli is the correct pronunciation of pasta fazool"? If it weren't for "That's Amore", most Americans wouldn't have known what pasta fazool was! :D
These old shows really give me a warm feeling. I always smile a lot. It's not just that they were running when I was a young boy (although that may be part of it) but just the personalities - I'm surprised at how genuine they so often appear to be.
Hayworth's two were great dancers.
They really were....but then the whole family danced for a living ! Rita's parents were professional dancers and she even became her dad's dancing partner when she became a teenager.
The woman reading the income tax form sadly... is absolutely HILARIOUS!
graperonto Clark Gables Daughter. At the time it was a secret, but she looks just like him !!
@@celtglen she read the tax for in a given mood, which for her was sad. The other had love and anger respectively.
Wow! who knew. Love Dean Martin's mother and all the other lovely ladies and handsome gents.
Yul Brynner's Sister, WOW! The only photo I had ever seen was when she was a small child beside her young Brother. Thank you so much for posting!
Jayne Meadows 1919-2015
I saw Yul Brynner on stage doing the play "King and I". WoW what a performance !!! He passed not to long after from cancer. He made a don't smoke commerical that ran for only a year after his death. He was my most fav of all actors. He was such a kind man.
He was obnoxious and a creep. I worked at a dinner theater and he did The King and I. His dressing room was re-done every single week because he wanted everything to be in brown, from tan to dark brown, including the walls and bathroom towels. So obnoxious.
Very fun episode. Worth mentioning how excellent the orchestra is in accompanying some of the guests. Live TV is challenging, but these musicians were the best in the NY area; so they could deliver. Superb!
Dean Martin's mother, WOW, you'll never see her again anywhere else .
Joseph T. Yes you can. She's on CZcams in an old You Bet Your Life episode with Groucho Marx. She is a contestant.
Im finding so many clips of her now! I’ve been a fan since I was....13...? This is amazing 🤩 now to find his dad 😄
Ms. Q is such a good singer - what a voice! she must be in opera, too.
Judy still did not know Clark Gable was her father.
qtpysusie54 Same with Erik Preminger, Otto Preminger’s son by Gypsy Rose Lee. When he was on To tel, the truth, he was asked how many kids he had. If I’d been on I would’ve said “I think you ought to reconsider that answer.”
she looks more like him than her mom. so she has inherited every ounce of that talent. she’s very good!
and charming :)
She looks just like him. Of course these days I wouldn't be surprised if Clark was her mother and Loretta the father.
Gary’s dancing was beautiful! I loved that!
And a carton of Winstons for each of you! How times have changed!
This was one of my favorite shows when we got our first tv. That tells my age
Only a professional actress make you laugh hysterically while reading the income tax report sounding like they're about to burst into tears
Her biological father was Clark Gable. Her mother was Loretta Young. Her biological aunt was married to Ricardo Montalban.
And the award for most subtle advertising on a TV show goes to...
Judy Lewis definitely has her Father's eyes and lips. Clarke Gable.
According to an interview she gave in later years, Judy also had his ears, which is why she covered them.
Dean Martin looks just like his Mom, Mrs. C. Wow! I can't imagine how they wouldn't easily guess that
This was an amazing episode! I loved it!!
Great show! "Here's a competitor's ad I don't want to show you but I'm revealing it anyway." Camel gets a brief appearance on a Winston show.
Now, in some places, those cartons of smokes is worth more than the money they won.
Thoroughly enjoyed this show. And Gary dancing was amazing.
i remember when Yul Brynner played Jean Lafitte in a movie. i was about 11 and i saved a magazine picture of him labelled - Yul Brynner with Hair. LOL. he was gorgeous. oh, and, of course, a very good actor! 😊
.. and he Paid for ads later in his life that pleaded with people ..
" Dont Smoke ! " ..
I never forgot that ..
Yul Brenners sister was lovely but also talented .. did a great job of his number lol ..
Childhood memories. Bittersweet. Like seeing old friends and remembering happier times. Simpler too.
Vera Bruner was lovely and talented.
That was a lot of fun watching Garry Moore dance! He was pretty good!
I was 10yrs when this program was on in 1953
Bring this show BACK
Deano's mother has pleurisy and Gary gives her a carton of cigarettes. Perfect.
Made me think of my parents and what they were most likely watching when they were these actor and actresses age and sitting around watching “I’ve Got A Secret”! I think I was born too late. I love watching the movies and performers of that era.
I'm a "boomer" so I watched it as a kid. It's just as interesting now as it was then. :-)
They look so pretty dressed up back then.
Her singing the song from her brothers Play , pretty big hint.
Whew Barbra green was a fox she looked good all the way down to the dress, I've always liked dresses like that. All the women on this episode are beautiful, I cant believe how much dean Martin resembles his mother.
For the last guest, the question I had was: Is the choice of song significant? Of course, it was.
Judy has Clark Gable’s eyes and profile.
So entertaining this episode !
RIP Betsy Palmer 1926-2015.
In the mid 60s, on I've Got a Secret, she had the secret!! She was going to have her beautiful, long hair cut very short because she would be appearing in the touring company of, " South Pacific". My date and I saw it in Miami at the Coconut Grove Playhouse!! It was really great🌴🌴🌴
This is amazing
When I see Gary smoking on the set and know what killed him, it is doubly sad.
Everyone has to die. At least he died from something that gave him pleasure.
Big Kitty How much pleasure did the people who had second hand smoke blown in their face have. How much pleasure did his family and friends have at the slow painful death of their loved ones.
Wow, Jody McCrea was really dishy. It's so striking that since this was made he lived half a century and has already died. The beginnings of the television age are getting so long ago now.
@@Janster59 He did a lot of things including quite a few beach party type movies my favorite of which was Beach Blanket Bingo.
Classic! Love this
Glamorous dress and jewelry...not like the mess today.
It’s good you made her get up and come to the show and get a good laugh, getting up moving around is the best thing you can do for your heart and lungs.
I thought of Desi Arnez on first one too. The children of the Stars are all gorge.
🌟 Delightful ! 🌟
The ladies, are so delightful and sweet.
Betsy Palmer, what a stunner!
Love the dress on the first lady.
Gary is definitely from the old school, The Ice Box. I still call it that.
Really neat!
Vera was wonderful!
my Oma (German for grandmother) of 77 soon to be 78 years old recently fell on some stairs and it STILL isn't keeping her from cooking meals for others lol
The passage of time: Melinda Markey turned 24 the next day and will turn 90 next month. Jody McCrea was 23. He died 15 years ago at age 74. Judy Lewis was 22, died 13 years ago at age 76. I hope they ahd happy lives. I just turned 70 and I hope I do, too!
You're very welcome. One of the reasons that I like to post things of this vintage is that once in a while family members of participants find them and enjoy them.
So I guess this means that Yul Brynner was your uncle?
She looked so much like her father, Clark Gable.
As Bob Hope would say … (or sing) Thanks for the memories
Good times- fun times - beautiful’s generations
Barbara Green was definitely a gorgeous young woman. She was the daughter of Betty Furness. Barbara married a man named Denton Snyder who was a professor of theater at Smith's College. Her daughter became an actress, Liza Snyder
It was great to see this great clip of Bill Dana
Would Love to see Allen’s other great guys , I. Recall Dayton Allen was one of them .
Judy Lewis had 2 famous parents. Her father was Clark Gable.
One should read the book by Judy Lewis, Uncommon Knowledge , concerning her relationship with her famous mother Loretta Young .
Just WOW
Judy Lewis' biological father was Clark Gable, which she did not find out about until 1958 (the same years as this episode.) This was not made public until 1966, when her mother (Loretta Young) finally admitted to it when confronted by Lewis.
Dean Martins Mom comes out and I'm like "THATS JULIA CHILDS MOTHER/GRANDMOTHER...."
Fun to watch good old fashioned tv
Only a Mama would share the exact number of weeks she has seen her baby. LOL. Her mother was by birth Loretta Young (though they said she was adopted) and her father Clark Gable.
Fun Fact: the last panelist, Betsy Palmer, was Mrs. Voorhees, Jason's mother and the killer from the first Friday the 13th movie
I always forget how accepted and common smoking was back then.
We had ash trays in every room in our house. My dad smoked four packs a day. Died at 59. I cant even picture my dad without a cigarette.
Dean Martin’s mom looked A LOT like my Grandmother Grace!
Think all three actors did very well ❤❤❤
Judy Lewis father was Clark Gable..
Rita Cansino and her family of dancers. Her brother did have her eyes. I’m not the biggest fan of Dino but he’s got a first rate mama . She’s so cute. Yul’s sister is beautiful and talented. Gary says Judy looks like her mom Loretta Young which she did. but was supposedly adopted. She was her real daughter. Love child with Clark gable. She denied it though. She looked like her dad too The other 2 teens also look like their famous parents. Great show.
I had heard (somewhere)that Gable, Forced himself on Ms Young. He was Evil !! She, a Wonderful Mother. She did adopt another little girl, later. I don't know their names. ❤
7:50 If you're Italian or of Italian descent, raise your hand if you've ever had this same conversation about "pasta [e] fagioli." Sometimes, "guappo" will enter the same conversation.
"Is your brother a romantic lead?"
*slight hesitation* "Eh, huh, huh, eh, huh.. Supposedly, yes"
😂😂😂
Cartons of cigarettes were prizes, etc. on just about every game show, along with being very prominent in most TV shows. I grew up in a smoking house and have never in my whole (75+ year) life even tried to smoke!!! It was very accepted back then - my Mom had COPD when she passed!!!
Dean Martin’s mom made me hungry for Italian! 😋
Texas 1 According to his daughter Deana’s biography of her Dad, his Mum’s pasta fagioli was Deans favourite meal, and she made it with her own special secret ingredient.
Betsy Palmer looks gorgeous!
Loretta Young's daughter and Clark Gable was her father.
Dean Martin’s mother died in 1966, Rita Hayworth’s brother died in 1974,Yul Brynners sister died in 1967, Loretta Young’s daughter died in 2011 and Joel McCrea’s son died in 2009. Joan’s daughter has died, but date unknown..And Melinda’s son died last month,August 2023.
Wow! That was a tricky position for Judy to put herself in when she looks so much like her celebrity secret father! Holy cow. Did she not yet know? I thought the first young man did indeed look like a young John Wayne as well.
Angela Barra Crosetti looks so young. She was only 20 when she gave birth to Paul Crosetti (Dean Martin).
It is surprising that Melinda Markey was mentioned as the daughter of Joan Bennett, but not Gene Markey. In several interviews, Melinda has said after her parents' divorce, she rarely ever saw her mother, and considered her stepmother Hedy Lamarr more as a mother to her. Melinda still occasionally shows up in Austria, visiting her half-brother.
why is that surprising? she WAS the daughter of Joan Bennett ... the show wasn't about children who have unresolved issues with their mothers and step-mothers, was it?
Gene Markey was only married to Hedy Lamarr for 2 years, so I doubt your claim the she won the mother-of-the-year prize with regard to her step-daughter could be true especially since Hedy's own children have publically said she was a distant mother figure and she was completely estranged from her eldest son for over 50 years Where do you get this stuff??
Since they all knew Joan, she was the one mentioned. Her father was not as well known as her mother. Only in rare instances are writers and producers as well known as the actresses they are married to (and he was married to three star actresses before his final wife (and wife at the time of broadcast)) who was known largely only ion horse circles.
Betsy Palmer was the cutest.
Dean Martin mother so beautiful and like any mother made sure she called out her son for not visiting her😂😂😂😂😂Momma I do the same lol❤❤❤
