Back when western film directors immersed the viewer into the details of other cultures and didn't simply gloss over them with wrong stereotypes, the scene is so subtle but it packs so much.
No, nowadays "Western" (jooooo) directors despise Western culture and openly mock it and promote other cultures as superior.
Back then when people had culture and could behave.
@chanjackie2299 aas someone from the city where this movie was filmed... the culture didnt go anywhere budd and people still behave the same... u cant change a culture in 60 years 🤝
I ate in this restaurant this week! They're hugely proud of the connection. It was great to sit where they sat!
What is the name of this restaurant?
@@theomb1 the scene was shot inside the mamounia hotel. they still have this restaurant inside.
Was it curried chicken they were served?
@@michaelstone1620 The dish and the pot with the conical cover in which the food is cooked is called a tajine. A tajine features a main meat chicken, beef, lamb, etc (except swine which is forbidden in Islam) cooked in extra virgin olive oil traditionally accompanied of various types of vegetables (traditionally potatoes, carrots, olives, oignons, peas, tomatoes) sometimes nuts are added (almonds) or dried fruits to add sweetness (prunes, mejhool dates). Of course, tajines are cooked with mandatory spices and herbs added like all Moroccan dishes such as ginger, salt, black pepper, peppers, flat parsley, cilantro. In this movie scene, they are eating a chicken tajine with olives but I don't see anything else in it. Traditionally, a chicken tagine would be served with root vegetables (potatoes, carrots, oignons) these are basics.
wow!
As a Moroccan, this is my absolute favorite scene and movie. Classic Hollywood's 50's movies were amazing.
Doris Day looks beautiful. Nice dress
As a fan of Alfred Hitchcock, it's great to see that im not the only fan out there.
From 3:38 to 5:35, the acting is surprisingly naturalistic, particularly the way the dialogue occasionally overlaps. I wonder if Hitch let the actors improv?
I like the direction of this eating scene, very authentic, bit of documentary style

Welcome to the amazing magic land Morocco
Don't know why but this is one of my favourite movie of all time.
This is a great movie all around. Not the greatest Hitchcock, but certainly up there. One of the things it has going for it is Doris Day. I don't think she is ever more beautiful on screen than she is in this movie. This scene shows off well the excellent job the costumers did. Doris in this movie had a great figure in all her gowns and suits.
The reason they got it colored I think. She was stunning.
Although I'm the biggest fan of Kubrick and Fellini as directors, this Hitchcock film is still my favorite of all of his. And who would not notice that Doris Day is absolutely stunning in her appearance in this film. Her acting is just impeccable, and even if others can't get by her Kay-Surah-Surahs, it's still a beautiful scene to watch her singing and playing at the piano.
The 1934 version is b&w, this one was released in color
@@hipsterdoofus1026 I love the b&w version.
@@hana.the.writer5074 It's in Technicolor, right?
Doris Day and James Stewart look good as a couple, wish they had done one more movie together.
I love the comedy in this.
I've never seen this film. Looks like I have a treat in store.
You sure do! It's a great suspenseful film and beautifully shot and acted.
Nothing is as it seems at this dinner, which we won't find out for awhile.
Literally you can still sit and eat like this in morocco

It brought out all the beauty of that still-decorative time.
Wow, women wore such beautiful outfits in those days! I wouldn't mind owning it myself!
Yes, esp Hollywood actresses!

The Man Who Ate Too Much.
🤣But the doctor barely ate anything!
I like this movie I try to watch it every chance I get
Doris Day wasn't vegetarian yet at that time?
She was talented as an actress. Not just a great singer.
The treatment of animals in this movie was what opened her eyes to animal cruelty.

Isn't that life. You go out to eat with your wife, you're interrupted and then they want to tell you how to eat. WTF invited you? He should have said Go Away just after introduction.
And that’s the story of how politeness and courtesy went down the drain.
Problem with that! Moroccan culture is older than all the west! First and oldest university, still working, was built in Fes 859 A.D. So, 200 years later the first university in Italy and in all the West took place. Nobody tells youb to visit morocco, but when you come, let your arrogance and stupidity away and just enjoy the smell of history and beauty.
Restaurant dinner & the in arms. O
Alfred Hitchcock cinéma américain Hollywood classique cinéma américain
Wonderful Hitchcock touches throughout. The original version had a shoot em up ending that was a let down. The remake from the symphony scene to the final credits is sheer magic. BUT the chic and sophisticated 30's family of the original is replaced by the corny fifties American family of the remake - this corny humor of this scene in the restaurant is probably my least favorite in the movie.
AND Hollywood HAD to have a son, not a daughter as part of the corn. Ugh.
@@mckavitt13 The child could have been a little girl and been equally as corny and icky. The girl in the lst version was a smart, soigné little thing.
@@poetcomic1 Sage?
@@mckavitt13 soigné
@@poetcomic1 Aha! Je le connais bien, mais l’orthographe n’était pas tout à fait correcte. Donc, j’ai supposé sage. Merci mille fois pour la clarification.
