    Very cool that you got to be one of the first to test the new model. I had originally ordered these but the depth of them was just a bit too much. Tom is a great guy to deal with and very honest with his recommendations. I look forward to your more in depth review.

      Thanks Vinny. So far I'm definitely impressed with it's mere output. It has no problems pressurizing my 13' x 19' x 19' theater. Looking forward to getting it dialed in and seeing how it performs for music and movies. Of course I want to see how it compares to a single SVS PB16 as well since they are both in the same price range.

    Hello Youthman,
    I really enjoy your channel and all the comparisons even more. I currently getting a new home built with a dedicated theater room and I am thinking of adding a third if not forth sub to my system. Since I already have two sealed subs I will purchase more sealed to keep the sound uniform. I need a sub that plays subsonic notes without any problems. Judging from your auditions which sub would be the better option between the PSA S3611 and the SVS SB 16? I want to increase the subsonic experience without the woofer flutter. Thanks

    Another great video of YM...! That amp has to be top rate just by looking at the "quickness" of the driver movement. Big extension and sharp excursions. The driver hits hard and fast outwardly and pulls back just as sharply.
    So, does running dual drivers in a single cabinet like that beastly PSA eliminate the need for dual enclosures each with a single driver as it relates to eliminating dead spots and room modes...?

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +2

      My understanding is you would still benefit from having a second sub. As I mentioned in the video, I can walk around my room and find nulls.
      Tom May be able to provide more insight on that.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 2 lety

      This is an older video so I’m not sure which subs were back there but I’m guessing they were the PV 16s from SVS. When you plug one port, it changes the tuning frequency and provides lower extension while still having great output. You can look on their website to see the specs for each port tuning.

      I have a few setups. The one I use most is my gaming room setup where I watch sports and play video games. Paradigm V5 (690cc, 3x 100s Front, sides & surrounds, 2x adp overhead. Which I know isn't ideal but I didn't want ceiling speakers and no room for 10's or 20's from the Paradigm line). Powered by Anthem AV60, Sherbourn PA 7-350 and PA 5-200 for ceiling speakers. Oh and of course 2 PB16s up front and SB16s in the rear. Again, I know this isn't ideal but it works in my room after calibration and placement. My theater is under renovations. I run B&W S in there. I'm in the market to upgrade my hardware (separates, projector and screen) and get some new subs.

    What made you go with JTR vs the PSA subs? Obviously the JTR's are absolute monsters, but comparable PSA's are usually more cost effective. That said, I have a modest 5.1 setup comprised of mostly PSA (LCR, 2x 15" sub, 1x dual 18 (3601 model)) and even though I love it...I am tempted by JTR. But at my level, not sure the gains (ha, get it?) would be worth the cost...and the PITA of re-hooking everything up.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 3 lety +1

      At the time I reviewed the PSA, I was content with my dual PB16’s. It wasn’t until I reviewed the dual Captivator RS2’s and three JTR home theaters that I got the upgrade bug.

    • @drwinlied
      @drwinlied Před 3 lety

      @@Youthman That's fair. There are levels to this stuff ;) eventually you hit serious diminished returns, but from what you had to the JTR system is definitely not that scenario. At this point, I'd like to get 4x the 110 surrounds PSA has to mount on top of the towers and replace my tiny Def Tech SM45 rears. But I don't even have anti-mode for my current setup; which i'm interested in. Regardless, for less than 400sq ft, the V3601, 2 XV15se's, and the full MTM210 front tower system is a lot to deal with. ROI on anti-mode probably better than a full JTR replacement. (yet i'm still tempted). thanks for all you do!

    • @supportpowersoundaudio6273
      @supportpowersoundaudio6273 Před 5 lety +2

      The two big variables there will be your own listening preferences and the room size. The larger the room the more likely all ports open will sound best. And if you enjoy loud to VERY loud master volume levels---say approaching full"reference" level---again, that would indicate all ports open could be best.
      When you plug one port the benefit is deeper extension but the compromise is you're giving up output capability in the mid and upper bass. The pb16u(which uses a 15 inch driver btw) is a potent subwoofer but it's not really known for great mid/upper bass "kick" even with all three ports open. So sacrificing more to chase deeper extension may not sound best in many applications.

      Hi Justin. It’s obvious by my many videos that I love Klipsch products. The RSW15’s were aging and although they provided a lot of output and tactile bass, I always wanted them to go deeper.
      I can assure you that the Dual PB16 Ultras that I purchased and the S3611 that I’m currently reviewing leave the RSW15’s way behind. It’s absolutely ridiculous the amount of bass I’m getting.

    Do you normally set the sub at the receiver at -10Db

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety

      I typically run Audyssey which will calibrate the trim level on the sub, verify levels with my SPL meter and make any necessary adjustments. The -10dB I referenced is the Master Volume on the Receiver, not the sub level. -10dB is 10dB below “Reference Level”.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety

      The trim level is the sub level in your receiver. My recommendation is to run YPAO and it will set your trim levels in your receiver.

      apples to oranges. just like the SB16 vs PB16ultra. there is a huge difference in output, but application for what they do. SB-16 vs s3611 and PB-16ultra vs V3611. thats where i think these would fall more competitive at. but your the one in the seat and can tell us what you think. and thats why im watching and learning ;)

    • @Youthman

    • @supportpowersoundaudio6273
      @supportpowersoundaudio6273 Před 5 lety +2

      svs is getting beat up a little in the comments but everyone needs to remember svs isn't ID anymore. Sure they will sell you something from their website. But you can go to klipsch's website and buy stuff too..:) There's no way a dealer model(like svs) is going to compete with an ID model(hsu,psa,rythmik, etc). At least not in a pure performance/dollar ratio.
      Look at the $2499 pb16u specifically. If bestbuy is selling you the pb16u for $2499 what do you think they get them for? $1300-1400? If svs is fine selling the pb16u for $1300-1400, what does it cost to mass produce them in china? $650-700?
      The S3611 amplifiers cost us close to that..:) Not the s3611 subwoofer. JUST the amplifier.
      If the s3611 was in bestbuy it would likely be $3599-3899.
      And the above applies to dealer models in general. JL, Paradigm, whoever. They are trying to figure out how to build a subwoofer in china that will end up here in the states 3-4x(msrp) $650 cost in china? $2000-2500 at your local store. And companies like paradigm, polk, JL, svs, aren't worried about a microscopic fish in their pond like psa..:)

      That would certainly be fun but just curious if you would actually buy one yourself? The reason I ask that is the reality is there is an extremely small market of people who will ever buy one due to it’s size and price. Not to mention it’s very expensive for PSA to pay for shipping both ways.

    • @jriverajr8
      @jriverajr8 Před 5 lety +1

      Youthman your right about that - as far as shipping is concerned - but from the exposure they would get with a review and your following base, as businesses savvy folks it would be a small price to pay for them to handle in my humble opinion.
      And yes I would buy it - my basement is pretty large - I have two Klipsch- rsw115’s
      On pb16 ultra
      And - two Boston acoustic subs sealed and two bics 12”
      A bit crazy I know and not all uniform but it really fills my area - and even without buttkickers you can really feel the chairs vibrate - -

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +2

      Sounds like you have an amazing setup. I’m guessing it would cost them $600 in shipping. Tom originally shared with me that he would be willing to send any of his subs except the S7201 due to the shipping cost and limited amount of potential customers. Even in my room it’s not very practical due to its enormous size and weight.

      When adding a second sub it is best to keep vented with vented. Vented + Sealed CAN work but it really is a major pain to get them integrated. And in many/most scenarios it won't work (well) no matter what we do.

    • @supportpowersoundaudio6273
      @supportpowersoundaudio6273 Před 5 lety +3

      Foam is actually superior to rubber based surrounds in many ways. And modern (treated) foam will last 15-20 years...minimum. Also, it is worth noting...in a few years your "rubber" surround may look brand new....but what about it's compliance characteristics? Rubber hardens over time. 5-10 years from now I would bet 100:1 that a quality foam composite will maintain it's design specs much more than the typical rubber surround..:)
      Also, there is often a misconception about cost too. Some believe "rubber = no expense spared". But that's not the case at all. If you speak to any quality build house the surround is going to be a tiny, tiny fraction of the costing involved in any quality subwoofer driver. It might be the difference between $199 and $199.30 cents.
      No one is going to worry about saving 30 cents if they believe it will get them a better component..:)

      Surprisingly, I don't have any out of pocket due to buying / selling audio gear over the past 10 years, bartering my web design services for my Panasonic projector and lighting installation, my friend built the front cabinet at cost, most of my speakers were purchased used at ridiculous deals and even my seats were purchased used and doing all of the work myself with the help of friends. Just goes to show you anyone can have a home theater, you just have to get creative.

    As yo7 said at the end, it’s one subwoofer, not 2. It has 2 drivers but being so close together the 2drivers act as 1 subwoofer. You need 2 to hel0 even out in room response.
    For interest sakes, the dual opposes build means that the subs both move in equal and opposite reactions while playing. This cancels out vibrations on the sub box itself. You did the demo of the camera or mike moving, try putting a glass of water on top of the sub. The water should be dead still.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +2

      That is correct. This is a single sub with two drivers. Great suggestion on the water glass. Will definitely have to Incorporate that into a video. Even if the sub is solid, wouldn’t the air pressure in the room cause the water to move? I know the hairs on my arm were moving even from 8’ away

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +1

      Sure you can hear a subwoofer. The human ear can hear down to about 20Hz and most subs play frequencies between 20Hz and 80Hz

    • @KorAllRBare
      @KorAllRBare Před 5 lety

      Agreed @@Youthman, But good systems should rely on BOTH WOOFERS and SUBWOOFERS, and yes the consensus is a subwoofer can be setup to be heard if a system doesn't have dedicated Woofers, But if one has properly setup woofers then the Subwoofer can be setup and shine, having it more of a shaker than a sound maker ;)
      Having said that, yes my system relies on both Tuned Woofers and a Subwoofer that has been fully reworked "tuned" so that it isn't barely heard cant remember the exact figures but we were shooting for -3db points 15Hz~35 Hz so its more likely to shake the house rathe than be heard..
      I would highly recommend you get a dedicated sound generator that can sweep the entire Audio range "they're pretty cheap these days" to demonstrate more accurately individual driver performance..

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +1

      I can appreciate you wanting to have both woofers and subwoofers. My preference is to have 2-4 subwoofers that handle 80Hz and below. I’m actually amazingly pleased with my sub-par System. 👍

Everytime I playback that particular scene, I notice new cracks in my walls and ceiling. My whole room shakes violently and never fails to send shivers up my spine. If my thoughts are right, the sub is getting internally out of phase, maybe not to audible or a thing to be worry about . But the way the cone moves seems to behave like such. This is why I want to move to a servo controlled sub setup. But hey man big move or air is great in the room is always the thing!

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi Jesus, if you are referring to the warbling (bending) of the woofer, that’s not the woofer, that’s an illusion caused by the frame rate of my camera.

  • @Thewinter7
    @Thewinter7 Před 5 lety +4

    FYI, the "peak" numbers for amplifiers mean nothing, the RMS value is what is important. The amplified single gets distorted very quickly after the rated RMS value, it is never worth going beyond RMS. Take the SVS PB160 Ultra for example, rated for 1500W. By going from its rated 1500W RMS to 3000W, the output only increases by 3db, which is insignificant, but to do that the signal was tremendously distorted. To sum up, the "peak" value is just a marketing technique, the RMS is what matters when it comes to the power of the amp. The "5000W peak" for the SVS PB16 ultra bugs the crap out of me. The extra 3db of horribly distorted sound is never worth blowing your amp or sub. Sorry, rant over.

    • @Youthman
      @Youthman  Před 5 lety +9

      Oh of course. But there is one super important value of the PEAK rating that you might not have thought of. It makes for a great CZcams Thumbnail! 😂😂😂.

    • @supportpowersoundaudio6273
      @supportpowersoundaudio6273 Před 5 lety +2

      It can vary from design to design. Strictly speaking all "RMS" tells us is the output lasted long enough to complete a sinewave. When you measure that the peak of the sinewave is 3dB(voltage) or 1.4x.
      An accurate specification of peak wattage with subwoofers can be an important indicator of system performance. If you had two identical subwoofers like the S3611 and throttled back one amp so it could never pass more than 1960 watts, even for say 500 milliseconds....I guarantee you the unthrottled sub would be preferred 100% of the time with loud, dynamic, source material.

    • @Thewinter7
      @Thewinter7 Před 5 lety +1

      That is very interesting! Thank you very much! My main pet peeve is a lot of manufacturers state the peak value as if it was the actual power you're drawing all the time to fool customers. There's so much more data that is needed to determine the quality of an amp. My BS is in mech engineering so the amps are not my expertize. PSA speakers and subs look incredible though! The engineering that has gone into the S7201 is remarkable! I wish I was apart of that design team. I cannot find another subwoofer anywhere that can compare to it! I will DEFINITELY be ordering one next year so keep up the good work!
