A lot of people have covered this song, but no one has done it better than Bobby Hatfield.
i get CHILLS every time i hear this !!!!!!!! heard it a thousand times !!!1 without a doubt,THE prettiest love song ever written performed by THE master of this song........
yeah, nobody tries to cover it anymore once they hear this version : )
Agree- not even Elvis did as good as Bobby
This version was his best by far, nobody can cover it after this version.
Voice not crackling, deliberate vocals. Magnificent performer.
one of the great vocals of all time
No, one of the greatest performances of all time!
@@bbwng54 dude he was singing.............vocals
Size Doesn't Matter when it comes to microphones! Talent does!
I'm going to use that line on my next date, when it's time for her to sing into my microphone.. 😛
evidently!!
That is pure, raw talent which we don't hear anymore. Just a band and microphone. I've listened to this dozens of time. I was a teen in 1965. Great music back then.
Me too.
“Pure talent.” Drink!
Recorded live, for TV, using 60 year old technology, and long before auto-tune was even an idea. Amazing!
1905 tech!?
@@JonCombo 2024 - 1965 = 59. The recording equipment could easily be a year or more old at the time of the recording.
@@StevesTubes I was joking bro. It sounded a bit like using 60 year or tech when it was recorded.
Such incredible range of notes, and that smile at the end. He knew he nailed it. And did it in front of his mom for the first time ever watching him in the live audience! BRAVO Bobby!
May be the greatest live performance of all time.
Tom Jones performances may be better. I love this song and The Righteous Brothers are outstanding!! Please react to "Tom Jones - (It Looks Like) I'll Never Fall In Love Again (The Dusty Springfield Show, 5th Sep 1967)"
@@BrianBogiaBricky I would still take Bobby without hesitation.
Yes...I believe do too..
Yup.
No "Maybe" about it !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
No one talks about the fact that Bobby was sick with a cold and wasn't sure he could even perform any song, let alone that particular song. He did an incredible performance considering the circumstances! An all-time classic!
Not to mention his mother was in the audience
@@beare55probably why he did his best
I didn't know much about the circumstances but in any event it was a flawless live performance that will never die......
Definitely one of the greatest live performances and song ever recorded, however the host is definitely lacking in her analogy of the greatness of the song and performance.
Honestly, she is not remotely qualified to evaluate.
@@WangChung69 I've watched dozens of reactions to this performance and I'm almost always affected in some way by whether the reaction is emotional or just an appreciation of great music. In this case my impression was that the "host" was indeed moved by by the music in more ways than one. It never dawned on me to determine whether or not she was actually "qualified" to post her reaction or what the qualifications might be. She received 2.2K thumbs up.......does that count for anything? I don't know : )
Probably the best live, individual singing performance of all time.
I hope you will check out Angelina Jordan rendition i described over your comment, it is worth it...
I've listening to this song 10 times and NEVER tire of it....Chills and tears baby and I'm 78...This generation has music the is soulless...This song will be a Classic forever...Along with "You've Lost that Loving Feeling"..Timeless to say the least....It feels our heart with Love and never misses a beat...It's like our first Kiss...It stays with you...
no" probable" about it........................
No autotune, 1960s Microphone, no backup dancers - just a man, a song, and talent. Love your reaction and commentary.
Truly a performance for the ages.
Shure made terrific microphones.
It really was a "micro"-phone.

@@noautotunejustpuretalent " No auto tone just pure talent " ... Practice, Practice, Practice.
how lucky to be born with that gift...what a great voice...live,no autotune or voice changer....faultless
Bobby's mother was in the audience for the first time. He was so nervous but did his best performance for her.
will NEVER be equalled !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
@@dwightdodd3734 I was 21 when Bobby released this song. Later in life I found Luciano Pavarotti. Now I imagine them singing together. Marvelous sound.
This is from the Andy Williams show, Live.
His mother was there that night and he said, he wanted to this to be a perfect performance.
It was perfect.
I remember watching it. My mother never missed AW Show.
I love to see the younger generations appreciate what I grew up with.
Back in the day, singers were very good at singing. Kids today have no idea what a good voice sounds like.
But don't you love to watch their reaction when they hear Bobby for the first time, I do.
ok boomer
@@noautotunejustpuretalent no boomer here.
THE GREATEST LIVE PERFORMANCE OF ALL TIME!
You had to have talent to sing back then ..no auto tune, no re-takes, no gimmicks.. just pure God given talent ... Known as blue eyed soul, Bobby is a countertenor with incredible range .. Check out You'll Never Walk Alone, You've Lost That Lovin feeling
Glad you dug this beautiful song. Bobby Hatfield was one of the greatest singers ever. This is a timeless beautiful song. When he teams up with Bill Medley they belt out such great songs as You lost that Lovin Feeling Soul and Inspiration Just once in my life The Night Time is the Right Time and more. They were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame and surely deserved it. Best of luck on yr channel
The greatest performance of all time ..
The studio orchestra did a perfect job as well. Andy Williams always was a class-act!
Every reactor I’ve ever seen looks like they’re falling in love when they hear this song. I probably do too. What a performance!
I’ve watched every reaction by black ladies, they are hilarious especially when they didn’t know he was white. Good stuff.
The great Bobby Hatfield. He owns this song! This was from the Andy Williams show. It was a variety show. Bill Medley is the other "brother" listen to them sing You've Lost That Lovin Feelin . It was the most played song in the 20th century. I will find you the link.
And that’s how babies are made
😂😂😂😂
This song started a lot of chain reactions. I'm glad my girl loved it. Kept things simple.
That grin at the end was because his mom was in there, and he knew he had nailed it and that she was proud.
This live performance was even better than the studio version.. probably the best live male vocal performance ever.
agreed !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bobby was very talented and I saw that on TV when I was sixteen. He left us to soon.
Very well performed n set the bar for sure. Excellent.
Young lady I'm glad you liked my comment. I have loved that song since the the first time I heard it n it's a joy to listen to it with a beautiful woman also . N yes I listened to it with you. I hope you enjoyed as much as I did , & I believe you did at that . I'm Dwane
Great reaction! IMO, one of the greatest live performances.
I was 6years old when this was released. i can remember my older sisters playing it on an old mono record player we had 😊😊
Listen again, and is one of the best love songs ever recorded, also Percy sledge when a man loves a woman you will love 🎉🎉🎉
"The Righteous Brothers" was Bobby Hatfield and Bill Medley.
To hear a great contrast to two magnificent voices, you should react to "You've lost that Loving Feeling" or "Highest Inspiration".!
Agree for V girl to check out the Shindig TV Show to hear both sing "You've Lost That Loving Feeling". I think you mean "Soul and Inspiration" that they sung on the Hulabaloo TV show. Another with both Righteous Brothers is "You'll Never Walk Alone" performed on the Ed Sullivan Variety Hour TV Show. They blend their different but amazing voices togethers so perfectly. Sadly Bobby Hatfield did pass away in 2003 but Bill Medley is still touring, with another partner Bucky Heard, b4 getting off the road this year.
The performance was live on what was The Andy Williams Show on NBC-TV. No falsetto. Pure tenor with range, tone & power. No auto-tune (not invented yet). The other Righteous Brother (Bill Medley) had the deeper voice ("You've Lost That Lovin' Feeling") & was not singing on this song.
If you liked this check both Elvis Presley's live in Hawaii "American Trilogy" & Timi Yuro's live "You'll Never Walk Alone," for vocal magnificence.
My parents (who knew the song) were not big rock fans back in the 60s but both my father & mother were reaching for tissues during this performance. I'll never forget it.
My favorite song from the 60s and actually a 1969. I played that song on an eight track on the way to Mexico where I got married at midnight in a jail in Mexico.
That smile at the end says, I nailed it.
Maybe that smile was for his mother?
One of the finest voices ever.
Bobby Hatfield on the Andy Williams show. I used to watch that show when I was a kid. I was 12 years old when this song came out. His singing partner Bill Medley had the baritone voice. You've Lost That Loving Feeling was sung by him. Great, great song also.
Welcome to Blue Eye Soul! You can see why most people say that the 60's had the best music!
this was the first time his mom saw him in concert i believe. And he delivered on of the best live performances ever
It is a very catchy song, since it is 59 years old and is still being listened to.
It still is life changing today! For anybody with an ear for music.
I’ve always loved that song ever since it came out.
The amount of songs they wrote for other 'artists' is mind-blowing to say the least
Wonderful song I had it played for my love when she was at a dance in Brighton & I was serving my National Service in Minden Germany 1955. Said everything I wanted to say.
That voice was a gift to the music world. Always flawless even when he was sick. R.I.P. Bobby Hatfield. Now you can sing with the angels.
I'm just hear to see how many people are gonna comment something about no autotune or there's no real singers anymore
Always loved this particular song ever since I was a kid growing up in my home country, Guyana. Brings back great memories. Love you, Bobby -- Mohamed Alli
🇨🇦 Next, try "You've lost that Lovin' feeling", it includes both Righteous Brothers ! 🇨🇦
Great performance and reaction. The song was a big hit in the'60,s. 25 years after he recorded it, Bobby Hatfields studio version of "Unchained Melody" was used as the background music for a love scene in the 1990 movie "Ghost". The song became a big hit all over again. Same artist, same song, recorded 25 years earlier. The album was rereleased and earned a boxful of platinum records. One for every COUNTRY where it sold more than a million copies.
Huge pop hit in the US, maintained popularity ever since, becoming iconic. Many well known singers have done versions since - notably Lucy Thomas recently - but Bobby Hackett's version here remains the gold standard.
It was all quality back then. Artists actual had to have good voices to succeed, and this guy had one of the best. No tricks, no computers, just sing into the mike.
I watched your emotions captured right after you heard his voice. I watched you try to cover your emotions by breaking into the video and talking about the size of his mic. I thought your reaction was totally, but subtly, wonderful.
I agree with those who say this was the best vocal performance ever, and I LOL at a commenter at another site who quipped something like: "270 girls and one dude left the performance pregnant."
Your reaction was special. Good for you.
I join others who urge you to react to The Righteous Brothers earlier song: "You've Lost That Lov'n Feeling."
Just by your facial expression, it touches your heart. I just wished ladies nowadays would be like you. Listen to " Soul and Inspiration"". You WILL love it!!😉👍
One of the greatest live performances of all time by legendary Bobby Hatfield ,1/2 of the Righteous Brothers. This was done live on The Andy Williams Show. This has been covered by more that 670 artists but this is the gold standard. Sadly Bobby left us in 2003. The Righteous Brothers are one of the greatest duos of all time. Try their song You’ve Lost That Living Feeling which was the most played song of the 20th Century. You want more try Soul and Inspiration which was #1 as well. Also Rock and Roll Heaven. You will wish you grew up in that generation. Enjoy
Love your reaction, to this great performance !! Bobby was a true "Countertenor" and in the last few notes he used his "head voice". He never needed to use falsetto.
In this song Bobby uses 21 notes across 2-1/2 octaves. What a SINGER !! Keep up the good work !!
They were called Variety shows and aired every week and it made up quite a bit of the networks scheduling. Song, dance , comedy and skits would fill the hour time slot in most cases. Back then there would probably be 2 or more of these types of shows on every night from Mon - Thur.
This live performance was on The Andy Williams Show, in 1965, and auto tune or other computer aided voice manipulation were not invented yet. This is just talent. Bobby has a 3-octave tenor range and sings effortlessly - tone/pitch quality are superb. A few others have covered this song since Bobby in 1965, but he owns this! Many people, in and outside of the music/entertainment world, consider this the best live performance - ever!
This song apparently originated from a "prison movie" released in 1955 called "Unchained" (which can be found on Vimeo, BTW). At 1:02:50 into the movie, Todd Duncan performs an abbreviated version of the song. According to the song's Wikipedia page, he also sang the full vocals for the film's soundtrack. There's also a Wikipedia page for the movie (and obviously an IMDB page). Older folks will recognize one of the main characters in the movie is Rob Petrie's neighbor, Jerry Helper in the 60s TV sitcom, The Dick Van Dyke Show.
Hatfield even said this was his best performance of this song, he had an extra special reason to preform good, his mother was in the audience.
Thankful I grew up in this era, just graduated HS in '64, two years later Army.
Esas baladas antiguas llevaban una carga emotiva inmensamente grande , muy grande . Eran canciones preciosas .
Bobby Hatfield was using one of the very first omnidirectional microphones used in the entertainment industry. Microphones in use prior to 1965 were big and bulky, or were around three feet long with a small receiver head. For a good demonstration of microphones in use, watch any episode of the CBS prime-time game show, “Beat The Clock”, which was hosted by Bud Collyer (interesting note: Collyer was the voice actor for Clark Kent/Superman on radio, and for the 1940s “Superman” short subject cartoon film series, which can be seen here on CZcams).
You need to listen to the Bill and Bobby singing together they are awesome together . ❤️ ❤❤
Notice that the microphone is corded. It doesn't need to hold a transmitter and battery, so of course it's smaller than what's used today.
Heard it 1000 times..........ALWAYS makes me shiver !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The orchestra, his voice and the sentiment evident in the lyrics .............. MAGNIFICENT !!!!!!!!!
and so .. once again .. through the years to just now .. we have girls going "Oh God!" to Bobby :)
This, along with Tom Jones live at the BBC Studios performance of, " I'll never fall in love again " are considered to be the literal top 2 greatest live vocal performances of the modern rock era ( 1950 until 2020 ) ...
Pure live voice. No auto-tune back then, no gimmicks. This song has been covered over 650 times....1965
I was watching it on tv in 1965. I was 13.
Man, this song rips me up whenever I hear it.
Think of slow dancing with someone you love while listening to this emotional song! So moving! I was 10 and so too young to have gotten a chance to enjoy this song in 1965, although I heard it later in my teens and over the years. I think it was used in a movie, too.❤
Yes it was ROAD HOUSE , PATRICK SHWAYZE.
" Ghost".....the PERFECT song for the pottery scene................
That little smile at the end was because he was pleased with his singing. He was pretty nervous before the song because his mother was in the audience and he didn’t want to disappoint her.
He also had a sinus infection.
smooth as silk and virtually flawless !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
First time here. Good time. Check out "You've Lost That Loving Feeling," and you can hear both of the Righteous Brothers sing.
I’m pretty sure this is the Andy Williams Show. Wonderful performance!
He was REALLY especially nervous here because his mom & sister were in the audience & he didnt tweak those notes to infinity on the album version like he did here...so, yeah, that "satisfied smile" at the end, it was quite an achievement to nail it the way he did ....i saw a young opera singer react to this on youtube & she damn near lost her mind, she was an instant fan, that adjective is an understatement actually. Anyway, great reaction:)
Good to see you Venezuela girl your a very pretty ladie
good luck to you from America man
🤩
Thank you.
It was a great song that was part of the movie Ghost in the 1980s too.
You really should check out more of the Righteous Brothers. Many more great hits from them and sure to please.
Bobby sang this during the Vietnam war. Could you imagine hearing this and thinking of each other.
Hello, this song had been playing over the radio for several weeks prior to the Righteous Brothers appearance on the And Williams variety show. The audience applauded early on upon their recognition of the song. I recall seeing this performance on television, but it was in black & white. It was many years before our television wore out before we got a color t.v.
My favorite performance of all time.
Bobby Hatfield had an amazing vocal range the funny story about this song was when they asked his partner Bill Medley why he wasn't singing on this song he said...I didn't think it was going to be a hit. So he let Bobby do it.
I can not count how many times I've listened to Bobby's performance here on CZcams I was in high school when he was on the Andy Williams' Show, and there wasn't a girl who wasn't "crushing" on him back in those days, because of this particular performance. It was amazing! The closest thing to absolute perfection that I've ever heard in my entire life.
It's a brilliant, mesmerising performance of an iconic song ,most older people will remember this as a duet with his partner who had a much lower voice renge ,they made a fantastic duo whos voices, meshed and conplemented each other , lovely here it again ❤❤
Check out both 'brothers' singing the Rogers and Hammerstein classic You'll Never Walk Alone. Bill Medley adds a fantastic baritone voice to the mix.
If you want to hear the other brother live try their appearance on the Ed Sullivan show from the same year performing "You'll Never Walk Alone".

I'm 78 and I remember !!!
My mom SOOOOO
Loved these brothers!!❤❤❤😊
Old worn-out COWBOY 🤠 SAY 😊
I was alive for this song. Girls would shiver when this song played.
You should check out one of their biggest hits, they both sing in that one You've Lost that Lovin' Feelin'
Great song.
Try their songs "Rock 'N' Roll Heaven", "Soul and Insperation" , or "You've Lost Your Love" and see Bobby Hayfield ( just saw) and Bill Melody (Writer and dep voice singer) together making up the Rightous Brothers duo. ❤
Excellent reaction later girl.❤️😎🇺🇸
There is a black and white version of him doing that song on another TV show that blows this version away!!😮❤❤
The salmon-colored jacket was because this was a Valentine Day special. The song was written in 1955 for the film, “Unchained.” It was the story of an incarcerated man who yearns for his wife. He wonders if she will still be there after his term is served. He also wonders if he should attempt escape. The film wasn’t a hit but the music was and no body did/does it better than Bobby.
as i said my father was from this era and my mother, my fathers hair was the same style, up until the late 70's, he also had glasses, that were the black dark rims of the day, like buddy holly, But in the 70's in the UK there was a childs programme, called joe 90, its was done with puppet like thunderbirds of the day, not tech in those days, he got the nickname joe 90, had a bar built in the house, called joes joint after his joe 90 nickname, you will have to google joe 90, to hard to explain, whith out living in that era
Andy Williams show, taped live before a studio audience. At least my understanding. I don't remember this episode, but Andy Williams Show had good visuals for the 1960's and early 70's.
That guy is the late great Counter Tenor Bobby Hatfield of "The Righteous Brothers." Done (Live) 59 years ago in 1965 on the Andy Williams Show. This live performance has been stated by many in the music industry as the greatest performance in television history. This performance of "Unchained Melody" composed by the late great and multi award winning composer Alex North. With unforgettable Lyrics by Hy Zaret for the 1955 Prison Movie "Unchained." Has become the quintessential version of them all. The NBC Studio Orchestra of the Andy Williams Show. And the singing by Bobby Hatfield became the standard version. And ever since 1965 this is the version every orchestra and every singer has used. The rest as they say is history.
Listen also summertime from bobby hatfield
The microphone is huge, there is a very long cable that ran all the way to an amplifier in those days.
We were spoiled back in the day. Realise that now more than ever.
There was a lot of babies that got their start on the night this song was played !
