- In this video, my roommate will be reacting to her very first watch of "The Sadist" from 1963. This is a public domain film, so I will be able to show you the whole reaction to this great little-known film that needs more attention!
ABOUT:
The Sadist is a film so horrifying in its implications that it will haunt you for the rest of your life. Charlie Tibbs, an escaped homicidal maniac, has left a trail of rampage and murder across the countryside. When a group of school teachers stop to repair their car on a desolate highway, they are brutally attacked by Tibbs who tortures them in a terrifying game of cat and mouse. Arch Hall, Jr., who starred in a series of Fairway-International films in the 60s, had previously only been cast as all-American rock 'n' roll types. In The Sadist, however, he gives the performance of his career in a role so unforgettable that his ferocity remains unsurpassed in the annals of horror. Hall's portrayal, along with a vivid screenplay and cinematography by future Academy Award-winner Vilmos Zsigmond (The Deer Hunter), creates a powerful work of art that is as shocking now as it was in 1963.

Deep Thought - Krátké a kreslené filmy
The film was lensed by Vilmos Zsigmond who later filmed Close Encounters, The Deer Hunter etc. Certainly added to the films appeal.
Great film guys! I really enjoyed that, surprisingly gritty and bleak for the time period. As for what to do in that situation, I guess nobody knows what you would do or how you would react until you are in it.. Keep up the great work!
The Trueman Capote book made into a film same sort of period as sadist is also hard hitting stuff. "In cold blood" I think it was called. Film was 1967.

Roomie is from the Tri-state area? I'm a Jersey girl!
Would you say this was an inspiration for many movies that came later? Also, would she be considered the first ever Final Girl?
We have a long discussion about whether this is the first Final Girl in our review at the end. I personally think she counts as one of the earliest, even though she wouldn't be the typical Horror/Slasher final girl that we've come to expect from the genre.
Yes, what Grave said.
