I lived in the D.C. area in the late 70's through the early 90's. That place dripped with burgundy and gold! Your two favorite teams were the Redskins....and whoever was playing Dallas! HTTR!!!

After the 0-5 start, the Redskins finished 8-8 that season, barely missing a wildcard spot. It was the next season that the legend of Joe Gibbs began.
My parents took me to one of the those 0-4 preseason games for my birthday. It was the game against Buffalo. My dad bought me a gameday program and I remember some drunk lady coming up to me after the game (Redskins lost) and said "why you wasting your money on that program? They are gonna suck this year". Of course Redskins went on to win Superbowl, I still have the program.

Redskin trivia... The skins were home and walking all over the 'boys and they swore the skins had a hidden mic somewhere on the field because when the skins were on defense it was as if they knew what play was being called in the boys' huddle and instantly adjusted their defensive setup.... It went this way until the fourth quarter when the boy's finally figured it out.... Chris Hanburger (#55) watched Tony Dorsett...When Tony had his mouth piece in Chris called an audible for a run or screen to Tony...When the mouthpiece was out, Chris called an audible for the pass....By then it was too late... Skins won.... Yep, I'm that old... HTTR !!

Gibbs is among the greatest 3 super bowl wins with 3 different Quarterback and running backs the Redskins of that era had a tendency to build great teams out of good players the fact that the biggest stars were the offensive linemen tells you all you need to know

THE GREATEST diesel Redskin one back RIGGINS averaged 30 runs per game as a running back at age 33 won the superbowl with the hogs

My in-laws are big Cowboys fans. I remember them laughing and cracking jokes after that 0-5 start. They weren't laughing for long.

I grew up in Baltimore, as a Pittsburgh Steelers & Miami Dolphins fan.
I also admired the Oilers as long as Coach Phillips was there.
I never cheered the 'skins, but respected them greatly...and this is a good post.
Thanks for putting this out there.
Coach Gibbs certainly got a lot of good press in the Baltimore papers, as many Redskin players gave their honest feelings about him.
I think Darrell Green said that Coach Gibbs sat and cried with him when Green shared the news his grandmother had died.

Best damn 0-6 team I had ever seen! they lead the league in offense that period, and the reason they were winless because of the turnovers.

Theisman, who took the Skins to 2 super bowls, was making $1.5 mil for 4 seasons.
Not per season, for 4 SEASONS.

That's due to the Federal Reserve devaluing the US Dollar. That's also why families need 2 incomes (unlike the old days, when only the father needed to work).

That was a lot of money back then. Inflation has been happening this whole time, not just in the last two years.

Riggo and Theesman think they made Gibbs, He made them and so many more. Running behind the line he was given Riggo made most of his yards before any contact. Theesman had some of the best wide receivers of the day and two great tight ends

Notice how well spoken and respectful the players from that era are and compare it to the ones of today. Just one of the many reasons I stopped watching years ago

There have been NO historical moments for this team since Dan Snyder became owner. He's toxic.
