    the best thing about NFL Films... they use the radio announcers calling the plays. so great to hear Frank Herzog again, "TOUCHDOWN! Washington Redskins!" heard that a lot that year.

    I'm a Buffalo Bills fan and I had this VHS in my middle school years (it was the mid-2000s, I bought a lot of old and interesting looking VHSes at the time). After watching this, it's clear that the Bills would've needed a miracle to beat the Redskins that year.

    My family moved to Virginia after my dad got transferred to DC. So the first couple of months before we moved to our house in Clifton, we lived in an apartment in Herndon. 7 year old me decided to watch really the first football game which was against the Lions. I was immediately smitten with the Redskins. It was just one big joyous ride to watch that team do what they did. In fact, I went to a speech class with Don Warren's kid who was the same age as me.

      Yep, their considered by some who know their shit, as the greatest one year SB team ever. No one year SB team had as brutal as a schedule like the Redskins had that year, no one. I remember that year well, an my god was that one tough schedule. And as we all know, they only lost those two games by 5 points, both games that they could of easliy of won. I don't care what anyone says, they were great on all three sides of the ball an had the toughest schedule as a one year SB team, so to me they're the greatest one year SB team ever.

      Absolutely - would have been an Eagles-Redskins NFC Championship and a slug fest par excellence. Hell, facing the Cowboys again at RFK probably would have been a closer contest than the one we ended up with. Lions were overachievers but they were doomed from the opening whistle.

      dcbandnerd After the Body Bag Game (that the meaningful rematch became the Buddy Bag Game says a lot about both teams), the GTOAT Redskins would have brought machetes on to the field if that’s what it took to ensure that no Eagle fingerprint stained the Lombardi Trophy; Missing the playoffs was a blessing in disguise for the ‘91 Evils’ reputation - don’t think they would be seen as so great if the last image of them was their forlorn faces as the RFK crowd which had seen the best TEAM ever made that defense look ordinary for a third time waved actual body bags.

    This and the 1996 Packers are probably the most recent teams to dominate both sides of the ball. 485 points doesn't sound like much in today's NFL but it does when you allow only 224. They had depth on top of depth. With the NFC between the 49ers and Cowboys reigns, Washington took advantage just like when the Bears came down and before the 49ers came back up and also between the 49ers titles in '81 and '84. Keep in mind, I am in no way bashing them, the NFC was so loaded in the '80s into the mid '90s like the AFC was in the '70s - Just too many good teams and Washington got their share of titles during this run

    27:38 I never realized this as a kid but Clark here was complaining about Rypien. Obviously Rypien had issues at times with accuracy but you could tell its on Clarks mind even when he was scoring TDs. After Rypien's horrible '92 season Clark wanted out, there were plenty of instances of him complaining about not getting the ball and Rypien missing him.

      @@papertags I can understand his perspective.. I mean with the Jerry Rice's of the worlds out there getting all the attention as the best WR in the NFL, those who saw Clark play would put him up against Rice any day. But Clark was overshadowed by him because Wash was a running team first, Clark never had a HoF QB throwing to him his entire career and he was competing with Monk and Sanders for balls. All Rice had to compete with was John Taylor and even Sanders had better career numbers than him and he was Wash #3 option..

      Way too strong a statement, given that in the 1980s alone, 2 teams finished with a better record - 84 9ers and 85 bears. I do agree they were a great team and one of the most underrated ever. The 2 losses however puts them just a step below those 2 teams.

    • @diver7799
      @diver7799 Před 2 lety

      @@rawn4203 Well they had the best offesive line of all time. Maybe the best group of wr ever. Stacked backfield which all led to the most points ever scored in a season and this was at a time when they played real football not like the arena fb of today. Oh ya our Defense had probably the best corner of all time along with animals like wilbur Marshall, Dexter Manley,Charles mann. Ill give the edge at qb to the 49ers of course.

    • @rawn4203
      @rawn4203 Před 2 lety

      @@diver7799 Being a redskin fan I am surprised that you said the 1991 skins had the most points scored in a season - they werent even the highest scoring REDSKIN team of all time upto that point (1983 skins scored 541 in the reg season, 91 scored 485). The 1984 dolphins scored 513 in the regular season as well. In terms of best this and best that, its all subjective. The 84 9ers defensive backfield with lott, wright, hicks etc was the best ever and nothing can show this more than how they completely shut down that 1984 miami offensive machine. But yeah if we are being objective the w-l record is a huge factor in who may be the best team of all time. Is it the ONLY one? Certainly not. For example the 2007 NE pats would have raped the 1972 dolphins I believe. But since its such a close comparison between the 91 skins and those other 2, the w-l record must be strongly considered.

      Wrong. The Redskins went 9-7 the following year, and were bounced by the 49ners in the playoffs. The next season, Gibbs retired, Petibon took over, injuries killed the team, and the Skins went 4-12.

    • @1983jblack
      @1983jblack Před 2 lety

      1989 was just as good as 1991 for Rypien. 1988 and 1990 were good but not as good as the other two. From 1988-92, he went 30-20 as a starter so it's obvious he could play. 1992 began his slide statistically and while not good it wasn't truly terrible either. He threw more in '92 than ever before due to the decline of their running game

    I'm a Bills fan. The 91 Redskins were a really great team...actually one of the best I've ever seen...but there were quite a few times in Super Bowl 26 when the refs should've flagged the Redskins for pass interference. They were hitting the Bills receivers way before the ball arrived on several occasions. I'm definitely not saying Buffalo would've won the game if those flags were thrown because they played like they all had a hangover that game anyway but it definitely would've made a difference for sure as far as Bills drives continuing and first downs. Even Redskins fans know it. It's obvious if you watch that game. A fan of any team would be pissed if their receivers kept getting hit early like that with no flags EVER

    This is when the 49ers had a down year and the Skins took it over from the 49ers. The Cowboys the next year got their final piece in Charles Haley, but the Skins won against playoff teams in the regular season like the Cowboys, Bears, Lions, Oilers.
