I literally mourned every day that the NY Giants let this guy get away. One wonders what track the Giants would have taken if Lombardi have stayed with them and been their HC.
Well deserved. Jacoby should be in, too
If McNeal goes for the ankles he may have been credited with a tackle but riggo would have still made the 1st down. Why would he go high on a man of that girth. Don looked like he ran into a moving brick wall
Riggo and Theesman think they made Gibbs, He made them and so many more. Running behind the line he was given Riggo made most of his yards before any contact. Theesman had some of the best wide receivers of the day and two great tight ends
😮 ggs!
I needed to see this!! Thanks!
Washington allowed 6 sacks AAAALLLL year!
Julie Donaldson this is the content we want
I’ve been in the house
Lifelong cowboys fan here I couldn't stand Chris Hamburger because he was so damn good...
Gibbs was a HELLUVA coach from 1980 - 1992 Right up there with Walsh and Parcels during the 80s.
1:58 I remember seeing something back in the early 80s about 🏈 shoe brands making players draw the logo on the tape after they’d put tape all around their cleats 🤣😂 Looks like red magic marker to me !! What Puma and Pony ? Maybe a Nike or Converse in there somewhere ?
I wasn't around these years but I love coming here to learn about my Skins past and history.. HTTR
I read a comment about a meeting with Coach Gibbs and Riggins . After Gibbs was hired Riggins was holding out for the upcoming season.Riggins told Gibbs if you sign me "I will make you famous one day."After there meeting Gibbs said " This guy is a egotistical maniac." He wanted to trade Riggins after they signed him.As a Redskins fan thank goodness this never happened.Oh yeah BTW Riggo did make you famous from that play.I certainly miss those years.Stadium and owner have ruined this franchise can hardly stand to watch them anymore.
He's got the perfect name for a lineman. He played like a god.
This kid could have been one of the great running backs. Unfortunately, he couldn't stay healthy. His running style wasn't conducive to staying healthy.
I grew up in Baltimore, as a Pittsburgh Steelers & Miami Dolphins fan. I also admired the Oilers as long as Coach Phillips was there. I never cheered the 'skins, but respected them greatly...and this is a good post. Thanks for putting this out there. Coach Gibbs certainly got a lot of good press in the Baltimore papers, as many Redskin players gave their honest feelings about him. I think Darrell Green said that Coach Gibbs sat and cried with him when Green shared the news his grandmother had died.
Mr Chris Hanburger is a humble man and a class act. He played with tenacity and heart. One of the greatest Redskins of all time. He was one of my hero’s growing up.
There have been NO historical moments for this team since Dan Snyder became owner. He's toxic.
Great man great player
THIS HISTORY HAS NOTHING TO DO WITH WASHINGTON COMMANDERS!!! LET THE COMMANDERS CREATE THERE OWN HISTORY!!!!
The "Hangman" ...👍
Those were the days of real football. Say their name REDSKINS!!!!
RFK full of Redskins' fans was incredible. It was so great to be surrounded by fellow fans and to see a stadium full of our fans when watching on TV.
Great Years!
Redskin trivia... The skins were home and walking all over the 'boys and they swore the skins had a hidden mic somewhere on the field because when the skins were on defense it was as if they knew what play was being called in the boys' huddle and instantly adjusted their defensive setup.... It went this way until the fourth quarter when the boy's finally figured it out.... Chris Hanburger (#55) watched Tony Dorsett...When Tony had his mouth piece in Chris called an audible for a run or screen to Tony...When the mouthpiece was out, Chris called an audible for the pass....By then it was too late... Skins won.... Yep, I'm that old... HTTR !!
The Joe Gibbs Era The Glory Years ¡¡¡ Glad I saw them all ¡ ¡ ¡
We will never see another coach like him. The Best.
Fuck that backhanded comment from that colour commentator.
this team was so awesome. score should not have been as close as it was.
That wide receiver group was awesome!
Joe Gibbs. Three Super Bowl championships with three separate QB’s!
great video!
Notice how well spoken and respectful the players from that era are and compare it to the ones of today. Just one of the many reasons I stopped watching years ago
Me too....you got it, Mike.
I believe in my heart had Vince Lombardi lived the Washington Redskins would have won a couple of Super Bowls instead of Pittsburgh Steelers in the 70's
Sam Huff is from my home state of West Virginia.
Always be the Love Of my Childhood 1974 to 2020 they thur finally won one for me 82
The Redskins were ready and prepared and the Bills were joking around and weren't. The best example of this was Thurman Thomas losing his helmet in the first series. That's a huge red flag. Then the defensive line coach for the Bills making all those pig sounds to rail on the Hogs during Super Bowl week. He got fired right for doing that after the loss. As described in America's game the media made the Redskins as boring and business, but guess who got the trophy at the end. The Bills just couldn't pick up the blitz especially in the middle of the line. When the Bills tried blitzing, the Redskins would put in 7 people blocking and rollouts to give Rypien that protection. That's why Joe Gibbs has 3 rings and is in the Hall because of his strategy. Richie Pettibon was always underrated, but he had 3 rings as well because he controlled the defense.
Once they left RFK stadium game over. Haven’t been the same nor will they ever be. Bunch of losers!
Nobody could have beat that team
Gibbs is the most humble superstar coach that you will ever see in sports
Please change this to Washington team super bowl week 1982. I am offended.
The merit OF HARD WORK DRILLED DISCIPLINE SIMPLICITY EXECUTING EXCELLENCE ALL OUT TEAM EFFORT. LIVES. GOD BLESS MR. LOMBARDI. AMEN TEACH THAT TOUGHNESS IN SKILLED LEADERS ACROSS AMERICA. GENTLE FIRM KIND TOUGH AS NAILS WITH MEANINGFUL INTEGRITY. AMEN.
HTTR FOREVER REDSKINS FOOTBALL FOR LIFE 💯💪
Rest In Peace Joe Bugel. Forever a Redskin.
After the 0-5 start, the Redskins finished 8-8 that season, barely missing a wildcard spot. It was the next season that the legend of Joe Gibbs began. My parents took me to one of the those 0-4 preseason games for my birthday. It was the game against Buffalo. My dad bought me a gameday program and I remember some drunk lady coming up to me after the game (Redskins lost) and said "why you wasting your money on that program? They are gonna suck this year". Of course Redskins went on to win Superbowl, I still have the program.
Out of all my sports devastations that superbowl XVIII easily still is my worse feeling as a fan of any team I root for. I did not see it coming . Looking back I could understand us losing but to be blown out like we did considering how we rolled through the season. Never imagined it. I read and have heard that the skins were a little to relaxed coming into the game and partied too much. I think that combined with Raiders feeling they let one get away and they didn't have their key players Haynes and Allen playing along with also being pure business became the perfect storm for a blowout
So have the speech nazis also killed singing Hail To The REDSKINS?...Take back the Name...Grow a spine, Snyder....Embrace our team, emblem and history.... You demand your team fight...how dare you do less...HTTR !!
Now my beloved REDSKINS surrendered their name to far left political correctness......Screw that!! HAIL TO THE REDSKINS !!
I like your thinking!httr
As a 6 year old - my dad took me to the newly re-named 'RFK Stadium' in October 1969 to see Coach Lombardi lead the Redskins to a big win over the St. Louis Cardinals - a few months before that - got to see Ted Williams as manager of the Washington Senators - '69 was the year of living legends in old D.C.
