  • Tim Pilbeam is on a montería in southern Spain. It is what they call a big driven game hunt, where they shoot in a day what takes many estates all year to shoot. Tim is shooting straight, and red deer after red deer falls to his rifle.

    Why shoot deer?
There are more than two million red, roe, fallow, sika, muntjac and Chinese water deer in Britain’s countryside and semi-urban areas, the highest level for 1,000 years. Numbers have doubled since 1999, according to the Deer Initiative, the UK government’s deer agency.
Deer are an attractive and an important part of our wildlife. However, they have no natural predator in the UK so numbers must be sensibly and strategically managed to keep them in balance with their habitat and to prevent damage to crops, trees, woodland flora, gardens and other wildlife.
Deer cause £4.5 million-worth (Forestry Commission Scotland) of damage to plantations and other commercial woodlands in Scotland. Crop damage is estimated at £4.3m a year according to DEFRA, with the greatest damage on cereal crops in east and south-west England.
More than 8,000 hectares (Parliamentary Office for Science and Technology) of woodland with SSI status is currently in ‘unfavourable’ or ‘recovering’ condition due to deer impacts such as browsing and fraying. Deer can also influence the variety of wildlife in woodlands and other habitats by altering structural and plant species diversity. According to the University of East Anglia’s Dr Paul Dolman, that has resulted in a 50% decline in woodland bird numbers where deer are present, impacting particularly on nightingales, blackcaps, chiffchaffs and warblers.
Deer are susceptible to Bovine TB and may be responsible for the transmission of TB to cattle. They are also the likely driver behind the UK’s increasing tick population (Scharlemann et al 2008).
Happily, venison is a delicious meat. It is wild, natural and free range, and - almost fat-free - it is one of the healthiest meats available today. Results from research commissioned by the Game-to-Eat campaign (Leatherhead Food International Research 2006) suggest that there are real health benefits to eating game. Venison is high in protein, low in saturated fatty acids and contains higher levels of iron than any other red meat.

We never shot to the leading hind in Poland. It is not etical here to shot mother and most expirienced female in the group. Regards!

+Potterek81 Hunting We don´t do it in Spain either. Besides moving away from your post during the hunting (even just a few metres) is completely forbidden until it has finished. And shooting at the youngest ones...

it might be different in the south of spain, I imagine your polish winter to be harsher than the spanish one (: so calves might just be fine
and this is monteria, they hunt once every other year or similar so they have no limits

Im sure all these negative commenters a small amount of deer in their area but in other countries where hunting isnt huge the deer population is. Yes, these deer are used some for sport but mainly to keep the pop down.

And to those wh say "its not hunting this is killing"... thats the point of doing this is to kill these animals. If these guys were all trying to keep the deer they killed to a minimum and go for long hikes to kill one giant buck how would that help the pop. None because to keep the pop at the same rate ones have to go for all those which are born

So many NEGATIVE comments off people who have NO Experience whatsoever and really have no idea what they are talking about, this is the way they hunt Large areas in Spain, thousands of Hectares at one time, it's only hunted once a year, and it WORKS, you can see that by the number of animals there.2 points I would make about the shooter,1. NEVER shoot a lead hind, and if with calf, you shoot the calf first!!!, then hind if given chance.2. How were you allowed to shoot a spiked?, I've been on plenty of Monterias and it's Frowned upon to shoot a spiker, but I do get the impression that the shooter is not experienced at this.
And last point, in the previous video it showed the shooter standing with his safety catch off on the gun.😡😬.
Spanish Hunters are a very Proffessional outfit and I can Highly recommend them.

Shooting the leading hind is no hunting, it's disgusting. Shooting a running deer on 200 yards only shows that the man doesn't respect the animal. If you can't make a save shot you just don't shoot. Thumbs down!

Thank god we have public land and don’t have to wait for some clown to give us permission to hunt or pay for permission on some prices land that did nothing more for it other than to be born into it. Nice shot though.
