Might be a little late to answer your question, but it all depends on the speed of the animal and how far away it is. If a deer is only fast trotting or moving under 20mph, a little ahead of the shoulder is a good shot, maybe at the edge of the chest if you’re going for shoulder shots. If it’s running full bore 100yds+, you might need to go as far as being even with the nose of the animal. And it also depends on which angle the deer is running, all the previous examples are when the deer is running squarely perpendicular to the shooter, but if it’s angling away or towards the lead will not be as extreme. Really the only way to get good at shooting moving deer is to get first hand experience, and eventually you’ll get an idea of how to do it.

This worked on a 150 yard running shot this year for me. Bullet entered 4" ahead of the right hind quarter exited behind the left front shoulder.
