Fantastic review. I bought the Salomon Sense PRO 2 and have never used a vest before despite years of marathons. I could not find anywhere what those extra straps/cord were for so thank you for solving the mystery!
Thanks for the review! Super useful! :)
I live Salomon hydration vests!
Love the review @OldManRunner !
My Camelbak Ultra Pro has served me very well for a couple of years now...
but it uses a different system of two chest straps instead of the Salomon's tension cord - and unfortunately on very long runs prolonged rubbing of the straps leaves a permanent mark on the running shirt beneath.
I assume Salomon's tension strap doesn't damage clothing worn under it?
The Soar Running top that I wore is designed for added durability from wearing a hydration vest...and has not suffered any damage so far, but I only ran one marathon. It's one of my favourite pieces of kit. There are 4 crossing/touch points on the Sense Pro 5 vest cords. Some rubbing on the fabric happens as the load of the strap falls over a small area. Having said that the vest is easy to tension so that it is tight, and does not jiggle about, but does not hurt, and with the lack of movement comes less chance to fray any under garment...I think the system on this vest is optimal, and tightens across the vest horizontally but also adds some vertical tension. If it started to wear a favourite top, I could readjust the anchor points...
@@OldManRunner- thanks Barry, great description of the Solomon strap system - I reckon it's better at minimising movement of the vest and straps across the chest!
@@bartekzielinski1645 Agreed!
This is such perfect timing for me... just looking to invest in my very first ever hydration vest! Visibility I think is pretty important, as the days are getting shorter and shorter now and many of us are starting our spring marathon training!! Yet I don't want garish colours that clash with my cute running outfits!😁 Maybe that's why you too went for black? I was considering maybe the Nathan Hypernight Quickstart 2.0 4L, it really stands out when the lights hit it, and comes with a bladder included!! An unsupported marathon is sure a GREAT test for this vest though and a glowing plus for an extremely popular vest! Thanks so much Barry!
Yes I chose the black to go with lots of different stuff. The Nathan pack looks really interesting. It holds quite a bit of fluid...my only worry would be locking it down so it doesn't bounce....but the bladder on the back might help in that regard...but the reflectivity is superb....which can only be good...
@@OldManRunner Yeah definitely lockdown is the most important factor... I would remove the bladder actually most of the time and just use soft flasks, but nice to have for those super long-run days I head out exploring, 'cause in all the little towns around me there's literally only one with a water fountain!! (So strange for France actually). Often I end up begging people to use their garden hose, which tastes horrible, if I can even find someone!!
@@bev9708 I’ve drunk from a garden hose… I ran a virtual marathon with my friend Liam and he thinks was stopping in shops to buy water and a snack… but I guess that won’t work in France where closing shops is a natural pastime…though that might be a good thing…
@@OldManRunner 😂so true! But not too many even closed shops around this area.
@@bev9708 Probably very good for work life balance but always confusing when I go to France. Here shops open all day every day…not just in the cities…but of course it never gets hot in the middle of the day… or any other part…
Any updates on this vest? Still like it or do you wish you would have tried something else like the advanced skin?
I haven't used it since I made the video. I am happy with it v. the advanced skin, but i would have liked to try the NNormal vest but it was not available at the time, but is now:

What size did you buy?
M 92.5 - 99cm 36.4" = 39.0"...hope this helps
