I’ve been trying some different oils to see what I like best. Lately I’ve been using Murray’s hair pomade. It’s petroleum base, basically Vaseline. Smells great and keeps my hair and brushes shiny and smooth.

I’ve been using the Kafka brand oil, works well but comes at a premium. Once I run out I’ll just switch back to mineral oil, cheep readily available and personally I can’t tell a difference. Love your videos keep em coming please!!
I definitely just cleaned and oiled my brushes, put them in a box, left the lid open, decided I needed to use the chop saw, forgot that I left said lid open and pumped my newly cleaned and oiled brushes full of saw dust... Smart, I know!
Kafka brush oil is my personal favorite. Started using it after a year of conventional motor oil and never looked back. I run the heck out of my Kafka 5’s and like keeping them soft. Von Dago’s oil is good stuff too. Too much detergents in auto oils this day and age
I make my own oil using safflower oil with a few drips of clove oil. I heard the reason you don't want to use mineral oil is because it never dries. And if it finds it's way into your paint, at some point it could bubble up or do something weird to your work. Idealy you are looking for an oil that will either dry sorta fast or really slow. What you don't want it an oil that never dries.

I use Bristle Magic to clean my brushes. Do not leave the brushes in Bristle Magic for more than 24 hours it will melt cheap plastic brushes. Its not petroleum based but it is some kind of oil. And its safe to dump down the drain.
I’m seeing a lot of guys using transmission fluid and they say you can come back 2 years later and they will still be moist . Have you heard anything like this. Thanks VILLA. Love your work
I have heard this. But if you can get your hands on some. I'd recommend some Mack brush preservative..or Von Dagos or Kafka's oils. Many different oils will do the trick but these are specifically made for these brushes

Hey bro I’m a house painter and I’m going to start pinstriping as a hobby , but anyway there is this product I use to clean my paint brushes I don’t remember off hand who makes it but it’s called brush cleaner it is better than min sprts and lqr thinner because laquer dries brushes out and this product keeps them moist or oily I buy it at Home Depot
This is what I needed to know how to store my brushes and what I need to clean and thin 1shot paint. I don't want to buy there stuff is way out my price range.
DON'T use lacquer thinner with any quality lettering brush. You will destroy the glue that holds the hair in the brush and dryout the hair and it will start to fall out. You wouldn't shampoo with it would you?!! Imagine what that would do to your hair?! And make sure you oil your brushes to keep the hair soft and flexable. I clean my brushes with alcohol because it evaporates quick and doesn't harm the hairs.
Love your videos, getting into brush lettering and striping. I live in torrance socal and cant find mineral spirits anywhere. A lowes employee said theyre banned in socal. Would you suggest online?
Their are various reducers that you can use, I don't know if Pure Gum Turpentine is available where you are but that aworks well too. You could also try ordering some 1 shot brand reducer or Alpha enamel reducers. Or yes, just try ordering some mineral spirits online... I just don't know availability with banned chemicals. Here in FL everything is available

I do have that information spread out through my channel. But it is limited only to the brushes I have used and paints that I've used. I'm still very new to this craft
A while now.. works well in climate control environment.. but if sun hits it you're gonna run into trouble. I had the sun bake that stuff into my brush box.. I'm probably gonna order some actual bush stuff from Von Dago or Kafka eventually

Great Question!!! I will make a short video answering that as well.. But, I keep a large empty jug of mineral spirits and refill it with used thinners... Then my city has a place near by where I can dump it safely. Usually this is the same place people take their used oil from their oil changes. Look up where yours is in your city so you can do the same
And would you be able to do a review of lil daddy Roth’s lettering enamels? I don’t see anything on them, and reaching out to the Facebook groups is so far uneventful.
Ive never had to do this but. This is what I have heard people do. First you clean out the brush very well with warm water and Dawn dish soap. Then using a blow dryer straighten out the hairs and dry out the brush while straightening out the hairs with your fingers. Then dip your brush in some mineral oil lay it flat on its side keeping all the hairs together... wait a week or so.. see if that helps

Mineral oil from mr j hardened my brushes! Use neatsfoot oil, it’s natural, mine is refined, no wax ,use what you want on any brushes except mine!

Never used it before. I've only ever used Lacquer and mineral spirits. I can only speak to what works for me.

Mineral spirits to thin 1-shot .my brush oil is the best available, it’s neatsfoot oil ,all natural, made from animal rendering..

And yes. Practice on glass. It's reusable. The bigger the better

I always use new solvents, because I generally don't pour out a lot. Sometimes I even refresh them during the same job if it's a bigger project

I haven't had any issues with different brands, but I do usually go with Kleen Strip
Hardware store is best ,don’t use the thinner for spraying ,it much to harsh on good brushes..
Can you use olive oil or oils that you use on your body ( the kind that smell good) out of a bath?
You can use Olive oil. I and unsure about the "body oils"... the more natural the product the better.
