Saw them do this in a live show in Seattle back in the day. Was blown away but their performance. Always thought it was LJ who sang the entire lead on this song. Had no idea Lenny Mayes shared lead with him on this song. Lenny matched him note for note. They didn't give up nothing on this song. Not one weak link. Truly a bad group.
Between LJ and Lenny going back and forth, Ron putting in pinches of salt and pepper , the arrangement and those gut wrenching "NEVER's", this song moves me today the same way it did when I was a teenager in the 70's. If you haven't already pull up David Brandon Drummer for the Dramatics.The whole concert is excellent,but "Lady in Red" is...... can't find the word l want. Also, Natural Four "Try love again". Got a feeling you might like the vocal separations and horns. 4 men, 4 mics.
