DESPITE being told by doctors she would ‘just be a pair of eyes’ a young girl is defying odds and following her dream to act and sing. Maddison Sherwood has been using a wheelchair since the age of two, she cannot breathe unaided and needs 24-hour care due to her rare muscle and respiratory condition. The 10-year-old from East Leake, UK has an extremely rare condition called spinal muscular atrophy with respiratory distress type 1 (SMARD1). It is thought she is only one of between 40 to 60 known cases worldwide. Follow her story here:

Maddison what a lovely positive girl she is??!! I have Cerebral Palsy so know all about standing out. A lot of what was said in this video rang true with me made me head a tear.
There's something about when she laughs and smiles, she just seems like a wonderful person.

I just see a totally awesome and very beautiful little lady that also has wheels to get around. She doesn’t allow this to stop her and seems to be so joyful. There are so many other precious kids out here that may not feel the same or have the support she does. I just want to send love, hugs, and encouragement to everyone. You all matter to me. ❤️🤗🙏🏽

Maddie is a strong girl, if she had SMARD since she was born and she was diagnosed with it later in her life, it shows her body is actually pretty strong!

I know a girl who died of SMA before the age of two. I'm glad this beautiful child was able to go beyond expectations and have a good life
Gosh i hate that kids all over the world have to suffer with disease and illnesses without a cure. It truly breaks my heart. . I love how she is still so positive and upbeat. I pray she gets well and keep fighting

I have been on the ventilator 3 times because of a serious lung condition and I couldn't stand not being asleep on it. It's like a burning, living, hell. I signed a paper not to be put back on it ever again. But this beautiful young lady is handling it much better than me. Be strong honey.💖💖💖

I LOVE the mother's hair. How she looks good, lets it stay gray and puts it in natural styles--thought i was the only woman south of 60 who did that who wasn't "letting herself go " as my mother would say.
