  • For those outside the USA I wanted to be fair and offer as much info about the BiBury Wave Clone as I can. I still feel the Multiforce (with 8cr13mov blade) is a far better value ($37 at walmart). Compared to what is currently $48 for the 19 in 1.

Yes...your right, Leatherman's and U.S. derivitives cost sometimes more than 250 dollars on Lazada, shopee , and even ali express. I've seen upwards of 400 dollars for a Leatherman...unreal.
I'm a retired army helicopter crewchief living here abroad in the Philippines 15 years now. They have Gerber's for cheap but they're not real. I've ordered several types and the best so far, hands down, is nextool. Average price 20 to 30 dollars. The nextool flagship mini is the best micro multi tool I've owned. Blows the u.s. versions away I was amazed. But for full size, nextool so far is the best (Best micro AND full size). But just like every multi tool in existence, each one is missing at least one critical tool thats on the one right beside it. It's almost as if these engineers say ,"oh this is the best tool yet on this device, lets create a new model, take this off and put another useless tool on instead no one will ever use!" (i.e. lanyard hole, file, unsharpenable serated blade, etc.)

Over the last six months, I have picked up four Ozark Trail Multiforce tools! I have even converted one to a pocket knife (as per your video with a couple modifications). The Multiforce is actually a pretty decent tool, especially for the price. I think it matches up well with any Gerber or SOG I've ever seen or handled.. Sure it's too bulky and heavy for EDC, but it would be a good addition to a pack, go bag, or glove box. The best tool in it? The scissors. The worst? Definitely the file. It would be a great choice for someone new to multitools who doesn't want to spend $70+ on one.

    Few words on scissors jamming.
    Causes by:
    - excessive hinge play, and
    - grind angle not aggressive
    Comment
    * Reducing play blades may not open
    * Work angles too steep, edges may bite in one another, specially cutting solid like a zip tie. Solution? Modify - finish grind lower edge with #80 grid lower edge to 80-75 degree include angle (this prevents skid). Upper with #1000 or finer and edge to 45-30 degrees (this promotes sheer, prevents jam and blade-blade fight)

The Bibury straight blade chipped and rolled in so many places after my son took the bark off a single branch! Leatherman gets so much criticism, but they keep building quality tools and standing behind their product. The mentality of criticising Leatherman seems to me no differents when compared to the mentality that it is o.k. to steal a design (or someone else's work or intellectual property). Written in to the U.S. Constitution is protection of intellectual property and I know very few people will believe in that or fight for that. @@peddypeoples941 totally understand that, the build quality and tolerances of the Wave are not that great you expect from a 150€ tool. When i got my first Wave a few years ago it was about 90-95€ and that price is okay i think considering the great leatherman warranty, sadly lost it on a job site. As a craftsman the Wave was with me every day on jobsites and got used (and abused) alot, in that regard i did not mind the "roughness" of the wave and its way more suited for my job as both of the Vic Multitools, i tried. As i said the Spirit (XBS) is my main EDC MT, but still wanted a Wave more suited for rough work. The Spirit, especially the XBS is really suited for working with electronis and other lighter duty jobs. With my work EDC i carry a small bit ratchet and a few bits anyways and sure rather use the ratchet as the MT driver but when it comes to EDC in my free time i dont really want to carry a extra ratchet and bits so thats when the leatherman 2D bits come in handy (yes they are overpriced) and till now none of the bits have failed me. As i said the modding of the wave is really attractive, im going to replace the serrated blade with 91mm Vic scissors and get rid of the internal ones and put in a awl instead, maybe add a better file to it too. Another big bonus for the Vic MTs is that all tools are accessible from the outside. It really is a tough choise but if i had to decide between the Spirit and the Wave id go for the Spirit no doubt.

Good review. I bought my first Leatherman in the early '60s and loved it. But time marches on, and Leatherman did not. I bought my son his first Leatherman in '94 when he graduated from Navy boot camp. But again time marches on, and Leatherman did not. Since then we both moved on. First me to a Victorinox multitool in the late '90s, then both of us to Gerber, which we still carry. I have a particular problem with replaceable carbide cutters. On hard wire, they don't just break, they shatter. I'll never have a multitool with carbide cutters.

Is it insulting or flattery......I don't think it's either,it's just people making money by filling the niche of half decent quality tools at ridiculously low prices that more people can afford. There is realistically no way on earth that leatherman,Gerber sog etc,etc are worth the difference in price that they are, especially if the tool isn't used in a professional capacity.
I'm a maintenance operative on a holiday lodge park i can buy 4 Bibury multi tools for the price of the equivalent leatherman or Gerber......it's a no brainer really if the truth is known.
Instead of slagging these copies off maybe we should be asking why the price of the originals is ridiculously high and encouraging the firm's that make them to be more realistic on their pricing rather than charging exorbitant prices for their reputation.

These are not Clones they are only lookalikes and Not all Leatherman parts are usa made. Just a few (10-5%) And there was a law suit over this misleading advertisement. Files were one...But anyway, Having a multitool for the tackle box, emergency kit, or in the pocket for occasional and light work is better than not having one. But to a trades man that work with his hands thats going to grip hard, twist hard, while gripping hard, ect.,,daily---for YEARS with the same tool,,or someone who wants quality, Comparing these 10-15$ tool to a Leatherman, SOG or Gerber is pointless, WHY? Because there is no comparison except visually. What about Precision and STEEL GRADE.. stainless just means it won't rust. Many grade of stainless.. Heat treating, forging and drop forging, tempering, so on and so forth with much higher grade of stainless cannot be done at that price point. But thats what the real players do and that why they would have to cost more and a true clone would be of the same build.. Be honest,, these are not clones they're lookalikes... all thats taking place is a visual comparison. And what good is that??? Walmart brand is famous for stripping the Phillips screwdriver and bending the straight edge, twisting the pliers on the first use.. Both of these none clones are nothing but cheap, made cheap with cheap material. They're only clones visually. Sorry and politely but your steering people in the wrong direction by thinking they're going to get the same quality with the word clone. In fact they are made as cheap as they possibly can be just as long as they sell. There is no comparing...

they are "clones" what your referring to I would call a knock off where they basically use everything even the names and text. And in what way did I EVER claim they were as good? At no point did I do so, if anything its the other way around. But there are some features of the Multiforce for instance I found to be BETTER than the wave, such as the scissors cutting ability and the full sized hex driver.
