Rocktol 29 in 1 Mutli-tool, Long Review

- This multi-tool was sent to me by Rocktol, as they were looking for in depth, honest review of it. What does honest mean? Well, I only agreed to do the review if I can state pro's and con's about the tool in question. Rocktol wanted to hear real reviews that allows them to have an outside look at the tool, so they can get feedback on whats good and what's not, and improve it as needed. Most companies I've had the choice/chance of working with, only wanted positive reviews, and to ignore the negatives. I don't do that. If you have watched any of my review videos, you should know, if it's good/bad/ugly, I have no problems telling you about it. I try to be clear, and concise where ever I can.
So here is my review of the Rocktol 29 in 1 Multi-tool. Most of this tool is well thought out, like the sheath, the added tools, and having a thread hole in the awl. The t-shank jigsaw blade holder works well with most blades, that are between 1.0mm and 1.4 mm thick. There are some thinner blades like the Bosch T119BO blade at 0.8mm that have excess play in the holder, but that is not a result of a poor retention design, but a company that produces a blade thinner than standard thickness. Its not the first time I've noted issues with blades.
As for the bit driver, I would have preferred a magnet in the base of the driver, instead of ball detent bits, for use with a much larger selection of bits. Bits that do not have ball detents, will just fall out of the driver, as nothing would have held it in place. On a side note, if the driver was both magnetic and had an option for ball detent, the driver would work with about 95% of all the bits out there.
This tool has 6 flat head drivers, 2 of which are the same size, as one in the bit set, and one in the handle. That is a lost opportunity in my opinion. I would have replaced the small flat head on the handle with an eye glass size driver like the one found on the 22 in 1.
However an unusual but well liked driver bits were the security torx bits. Most brands come with regular solid head torx bits, which wont allow you to remove and/or install security torx screws. So that's awesome, in my opinion.
The SP4 and SP8 spanner bits, I have never seen nor used. So I'm not sure it they are more common in Europe, or I'm just in the wrong industry to have need for them. In my case I would have preferred a T6 and T8 bit for use in typical knife maintenance.

Good review! I have the DAI-Camping (DL30) version from Ali Express. Pretty sure it's exactly the same thing. Amazing value and great way to test drive the $150 LM Surge.
For the scissors if you just push on the non-moving tip it'll usually open smoothly. Took me a bit to get the knack. Fantastic scissort though. Mine already have a little rust spot which isn't the a huge deal considering the price.
Also the saw blades keep falling out of the pouch when I toss it around. Theres probably a simple way to prevent that for people smarter than me.
Wish it came with a different bit selection but I have that problem with most multitools and 1/4" bits are easy to find.

I have the bibury version and use bosch 3-1/2 blades with it. no problem with opening the blade as you use your finger nail or thumb on the little nubby or protrusion on the t-shank adapter to open it
I have the Bibury version of this tool. I think it's fantastic as hard abuse tool that you won't feel to bad about if you destroy it, especially if you can get it on sale.

The Metal On The Awl is weak I broke the tip picking out a nail out of my tire so I filled it down and I lost the bits , which I reordered two sets and ordered 2 square bits to make it better, remove the tool from your waist and put the bits back in it so they don't fall out. Also leave the spare stuff at home and get a small flashlight to put in the other pocket or a ratchet wrench.
@@daxomega007 The awl is meant for putting holes in leather to push thread when sewing, or at best, putting holes in wood, maybe to pre drill an indentation and place a screw in easier. You have to be careful not to use the tools for what they were not meant to. On another cheap multitool I bought 3 years ago, I tried filing down a sharp piece of nail in my shed with the multitool file, but the nail was simply harder steel than the file metal on my multitool. 🤣 It ruined the file. My fault.🤷♂️ I bought a carbon steel file after that and now carry with me.
@@Northanteus I know what it's meant for but the metal on it is very weak, I needed the nail out my tire to repair it, to continue work about just snapped with no effort, I went and got an old Leatherman and it got that nail out with no issues at all, cheaper tool cheaper materials, I still bring my Bibury to work since I don't want to lose my expensive Leatherman so it has that going for it.
The two odd bits, sp4 & sp8 I believe, are for spanner head screws. The differing sizes relate, I assume & yes I know what that word means, to holes being x number of millimeters apart on the screw head making them tamper resistant apparently. I am sure you already looked that up, but for those that didn't there you go.
Sorta. The size is not millimeters between the 2 points, but a fractional thickness of the points. So iI did do a deep dive into these bits. The spanner/snake eyes bits are very common in the UK, Europe, and Australia, as an anti-theft and anti vandalism choice for all sorts equipment. This style of bit and associated bolt head are relatively rare here in the US. The common security bits here are hollow torx, and tri-tip. The common problem with the spanner bits are that they are prone to breaking, due to all the torque applied is only applied to 2 small points.

From my understanding, the Bibury is a knock-off of the Rocktol. Its probably fine, but I don't have one to compare. Let me know how it works out for you.
These units very likely come from the same Chinese factory but marketed under different brands. They are really clones of the Leatherman Surge.
What's the purpose of the little u-shaped parts in the spare parts bag??
Those are like washers or spacers for the replaceable cutting parts for proper alignment.

Spend way too much time measuring just put a blade in and close it until it's what's wrong
Once you know what blades fit correctly, you will not get stuck carrying blades that don't work.
