I guess that's the reason why they are called short/long coffee instead of directly calling it an espresso shot. They are managing expectations on what the machine can produce. Can it produce an espresso shot? maybe? It needs more exploration to definitively tell.
The good thing about the morning machine is how customizable it is on brew temp, on pre infusion, etc vs the cheaper capsule machines including the ones made by nespresso where you just have to trust what the manufacturers decided how to brew their capsules. Also think the water bypass is quite nice, even with the capsule inside.
it is expensive for what ultimately is a pod machine. for the same price you can get a latissima that can also do milk but of course, apples vs oranges.

Can it produce an espresso shot? Well, it depends on the definition of espresso. Is it a 1:2.5 ratio coffee-in:liquid-out? It can be. But there's no world where you could possible maintain the strength of the coffee in a 36g final output without introducing more coffee through more capsules, ie. Pulling 3 capsules at a 1:2.5 output and combining the liquids.
Yes, it's good that it's customizable, but you do have to ask the question: If someone is inclined to using a pod machine, are they really inclined to going through a "barista dance" process to dial in all those customizations?

I saw this while I am thinking for a very long time about whether or not to upgrade my Nespresso machine to a Bambino Plus. THE price is comparable between BB Plus (even cheaper if u consider milk steamer) and this MORNING machine. I am very very curious about what would be the differences if you try the same coffee beans in these two machines plus the nespresso original machine. I wish you could have a review of them.
I buy capsules from local specialty coffee shops so the coffee bean itself is already way better than nespresso original ones. BUT I really don't know if the same beans would taste better if I use a portafilter machine. Honestly, I can only tell if bitter or sour :) If the taste does not make a big difference, I may eventually go for MORNING because for me time is important and I can change different coffees easily. I don't want to be a barista neither :). if they can add auto milk steaming in the future then it would be fantastic.

Sorry for the late reply. We've been on holiday, then I got omicron-ed! Anyway, you hit the nail on the head when you said "I don't want to be a barista." Hopefully within January we will be able to do the true head to head comparison of the 2 machines, the BB plus and this MORNING capsule machine. It's going to be a bit of a challenge to get the exact same beans, but it's doable to some extent.

I have never seen a machine that puts out the water first by itself! How weird

Indeed. But it's logically very sound. You want some water to bypass the coffee to keep that "long black" consistency.
