In case anyone's wondering, I think the letter's text is shown in the comics:
    "Dear Son,
There’s only one thing I know about life. I know some things happen by chance, and some things happen because we make them happen.
Barry Allen was a man haunted by his past.
But when he became the Flash, he left the ghosts behind.
He found love. A Family. Friends. Barry thought yesterday was behind him… But somebody wouldn’t let him escape it.
When Barry came to me for help, I turned him away.
I’m not the hero of this story. I’m a man who’s been corrupted by his own unbearable pain, I’m a man who has too much blood on his hands to be called good.
I’m a man who had nothing to live for… until the day I met the Flash.
The first time I met Barry Allen, I nearly killed him.
Like I said, I’m not the hero of this story.

I think the way they explained the time boom is not a direct action/reaction effect. Meaning is not that he saved his mother so that there were events from that that changed the rest of the events. Rather the act of changing time had an effect on time itself causing ripples that shifted all events ever so slightly. Hence, Superman landed in the middle of town rather than in the middle of nowhere.

    • @Animemus
      @Animemus Před 3 lety +19

I thought that there maybe was some sort of sonic boom effect whenever the Flash entered a different point of time because he’s clearly faster than the speed of sound and he’s just popping up out of nowhere so there’d be a superhero level shockwave.

*It makes sense, because if you change the future, there's a good chance you'll also change the past.*
Everybody knows that *"changing the past changes the future."*
But not many people know this, nor are aware of the fact that *"changing the future changes the past"* too. This is something I came up with, which took me a while to realize.
For example, there are certain events in the future which we know that'll happen for sure. If you change that kind of future's outcome, you'll change people's reactions to it before it happens, and thus; you'll change their actions in past, before that event happens (i.e. if the altered future is a bad one, the past will change, because people in the past will try to prevent that future). Therefore, changing the future changes the past too, which then can ripple even more throughout the past, like a domino effect.
*A reverse butterfly-effect, if you will.*

Due to how much they inevitably forgot from past seasons they felt lost on what was already set up and wasnt, when combined with them trying to piece things together in their notes perfectly and being used to the referential nature of other superhero media, they got stuck thinking every single thing was important and that the show needed you to know these characters that they never stopped to realize "oh i dont need to know this character, just that they exist in this world"

Fun fact, Thomas Wayne "killing" Thawne in this timeline pisses Thawne off and causes him to brutalize Bruce in the main timeline.
He beats Bruce senseless to the point he needs a full body cast and let him know he could've killed him at any moment, rips up his father's message, brings his father to the main universe and forces him to be evil (in an attempt to "save" Bruce) and causes the death of Alfred. All because he was pissed at Thomas killing him (even though he cant die, he just reforms). And it was just a brief little thing Thawne put together to get revenge on the "Batman" name that would take like a year to unfold and ends up pitting father and son against each other, the last people they want to fight.
Thawne is a sick psychopath and I love him for it. Easily top 5 comic villains ever.

Also idk if you guys know the villain Godspeed? Turns out he was created by Thawne, JUST so Thawne could kill him in front of Barry once they reconcile. Dude wasnt even supposed to have powers, Thawne rewrote one of Barry's friend's lives and turned him into a supervillain, and puppeteered him and Barry becoming friends... Also just to clear up something you were discussing after the movie, altering time in this universe isn't the same as the butterfly effect. With the butterfly effect there are a chain of events that lead to something else happening. The comparison I would use for altering time in this is if u shatter one vase on an unstable shelf, another one may break too since the whole shelf is now shaking. Though they are unrelated, the disruption of one thing can lead to the disruption of another completely unrelated event since everything is on the same "shelf"

Wish I could remember the og source of this info I am recalling...

If you guys want to know more about Flashpoint, there is a huge Omnibus coming out in 2021. It collects the main story which is self contained, and it also collects other stories taking place in the Flashpoint universe. Batman stories with Martha as the Joker... Mayor Snart... I think there is a Lois reporter story... and a lot of other great stories.
Regarding the DCEU, it was a Zack Snyder idea to adapt Flashpoint for the Flash movie. It got scraped away why they fired him. But in the DCEU, Batman's dad is none other than Jeffrey Dean Morgan in BvS. And Jeffrey was in early talks to be Batman in the Flashpoint movie. How howesome would that be ? Sad times man... Now they're still using some ideas from Flashpoint (I guess the movie is going to talk about how changing the timeline can be selfish with great consequences) but in a new twist (no violent war, no dark movie etc).
Now if you're really in to watch the whole DCAU movies, you're in for a ride ! It recently had a great conclusion with 'Justice League Dark: Apocalypse War' and man I teared up cause it was 7 years of greatness. It has highs and downs, but the way they were using comicbooks material with their own twist into the stories was really awesome.
