  • Sony A7c vs Fuji XT4. What's the better camera for video? Who has better stabilization and autofocus? Has Sony caught up in colour science? Dynamic range of full frame vs aps-c? We'll do an in studio test with the Zeiss 55mm f1.8 vs the Viltrox 33mm f1.4. Then a vlogging battle in the streets with the 20mm f1.8 vs the 16mm f1.4. Who has the Toneh? What about slow mo?!

If it had super stability it'd be a killer for sure. Fuji looks very cinematic tho, like you could probably shoot a short film, commercial or documentary with it.

Honestly, this was one of your best videos! The comparisons were super well done (in our hobo ways). The first half of the video I was STUNNED at how well the Fuji looked. However as the video went on, I began to like the Sony look better. Also I was simply blown away by the auto exposure on both cameras. Both handled the sun / backlit scenarios like some kinda ultimate transformer. As I mainly review Sony APS-C stuff on my channel, the A7C is such a frustrating camera. Like, I want it, but also hate that they didn't make the LCD or viewfinder better, no bump in megapixels, and it's too high priced for what it is imo. Also looks like you forgot the affiliate link for the Fuji! slap that in the description. Great job on the video!

    • @SimonStreuffViolinEducation
      @SimonStreuffViolinEducation Před 3 lety +1

I always wonder when reviewing the video capabilities what do we need a good evf for? The LCD also just drains battery if it is too fancy. I think sony just stripped this camera down for video usage. Price point is ok considering they still have the best af system. Sure it could be cheaper and I also would take one free... but objectically what is the competition in that price range? I mean Fuji xt4 isn''t even full frame and there is also Panasonic if you don't need AF.
Even Nikons AF is better than Fuji, Nikons full frame line only lacks a flip screen. If they do a Z6 Mk 2 with a flipscreen it will be a beast of a vlog camera.

The Sony a7c gives you teenage girl skin, so the new Sony color science isn't that bad. It's more reddish, but the new color science looks especially good on Asian people. At least what i've seen from some Japanese CZcamsr that I watch regularly.
The Fuji though looks cinematic af. It has that dirty street look that might not be flattering for the people filmed, but it's lovely for the viewer.

    • @techtutorial9050

@@CarsCamerasKavorka Maybe but I don’t see sony or any camera manufacturer putting skin softening in their pro (or close to pro level in the case of the a7c) camera cuz people who buy these camera would probably do it in post anyway and the zv1 was specifically targeted at creator that don’t have time to mess around with their footage so that is why they have it in there but there is a possibility that they have it in there because this is not a pro camera it’s a compact camera but I don’t see them putting it in there

I paused the video @ 1:00 mark to comment this.
I got it right instantly the moment I saw the skin tone! It was Fuji’s beautiful skin tone that gave it right away! You know what? Coloring is very hard to do that’s why Sony doesn’t have the so called “Sony Colors”. In fact, the man behind Fuji’s colors, Mr. Minami-San, is still with Fuji for more than 50 years! From film, perfecting the colors, he transitioned it perfectly to the Fuji mirrorless cameras! So it’s not just colors per se, it’s how you tone the skin as well. And in Fuji’s case, the skin tones are perfect for whatever skin color!

Buying lenses on the E mount and upgrading the body over time makes more sense than doing the same on X mount. 10 bit color is really the only practical advantage Fuji has. Sure 240fps is fun, but unnecessary. Sony has AF, full frame, lenses, user-base. I'm still targeting the A7c and those tiny, mighty Samyang 1.8s.

The Fuji colour was significantly more pleasing, and the camera has 10-bit, 4K60 and slow-motion up to 240. The Sony offers Full Frame, far more lens choices, better dynamic range, superior AF, and the wire-free Digital Mic for the hot-shoe. Sony's Magenta bias, particularly in the shadows, let it down, but it would be interesting to know what choices you made grading the SLOG2 originals, and whether someone like Gerald Undone could have matched the Sony more closely to the Fuji? I was impressed with the stabilisation on the Fuji paired with that 16mm 1.4.

Not sure why people still use S-log2 with Sony. Log profiles are too fragile on 8 bit codecs. The smallest mistake you make in exposure or grading and the whole video is ruined.
Also, do you still lose autofocus in S-log? I know that the A7iii you lose phase detect in S-log iirc.
I tried shooting in log, but the workflow is too complicated for only publishing on social media. Graded a clip for 4 hours and there's always patches of broken colour no matter wat I did. Ended up shooting with no picture profile these days. Maybe one day when I'm doing real film work with 12 bit or 14 bit raw, I'll try log profiles.

@@professionalpotato4764 I have to agree with you. I'm comfortable in color grading and enjoy the process.. Sony's just fall apart, hate the magenta shadows and blocks. Only when I shoot with an Atomos Shinobi with my LUTs and manual focus would I consider log on 8bit Sony so I know how it will look after so no risk of exposure / WB errors.
Agree, Neutral profile or Standard slightly desaturated and less contrast turns out wayyy better. Maybe Cine. Once you start seeing the fine color details it really makes you want real cine cameras haha.

If you actually care about the quality of your footage and can be assed learning how to correct and grade properly then you have nothing to worry about. 8 bit slog2 is fine just remember to use ITU709 Matrix (watch Calebs video on why). I use A7iii slog2 itu709 for all my professional work (weddings, corporate, realestate etc) and have no problems doing heavy grading in Resolve and using color space transforms. You need to think proactivly with your footage and not pull stupid skin keys that fall apart instantly. Always WB with a grey card, shoot 1-1.7 stops over and use the HDR wheels, primaries, and hue curves in Resolve to make natural changes which aren't destructive. Even if you shoot on an Arri you can still make it fall apart with poor grading skills.
Unfortunately Sony's magenta shadows are a problem still on the a7siii, but even with basic ass skills you can correct that easily. Sony's actual cinema line gives you what slog 3 should look like (fx9, venice, fs7 etc).

What you squeeze out of those cameras is amazing. I just got a used Lumix ZS60, been wanting one for years, playing with it, its not much better at 4K video than samsungs S5 smartphone, or the Droid, or the newer Motorola G fast (cheap thing). I got a PEN-1 & mini Pen, which I thought were not so good till I put older Olympus 4/3 kit lenses on with an electronic lens adapter. The video is atrocious but the 12MP stills are better! So Lumix 18mp still not giving me that Ahha moment.

I'm seeing noticeable banding (e.g. at 2:22) on the grey wall (true for both cameras) - is this visible on the files coming out of the camera, or is this an artifact due to processing/YT upload?
