Today we'll compare the Sony A7c vs the A7 III. Does the A7c have the new colour science? Is autofocus much improved? Is stabilization that much worse? User error hit us hard today lol. A7III in flexible spot autofocus, that's why it went haywire inside. For some reason it worked great outside :)

Okay that Catalyst Browse destroyed your complaints about the stabilization of Sony cameras also for some reason even though the Sony A7III is larger which should mean better IBIS still the A7c is better in terms of IBIS also colours looked terrible on the A7III compared to A7c
Have you considered trying to add the missing lens metadata to one of the movies shot with the a7c & the Laowa lens to see if it then works with Catalyst Browse?

@Edgar G. Don't know how much it is in American price range comparison but for us Indians it is perfectly matching that of the A7III we over here have it around Rs.137000 only body and not that kit lens

How easy is it to switch back and forth from video to photo on the A7C. Ive heard its difficult because your last settings aren't saved.

You look less flushed on the A7C. Considering getting one to upgrade from my RP. Only concern is if the lens metadata will show up in Lightroom if I adapt my EF lenses. Anyone know what smart adapter that keeps the metadata and autofocus intact?
The reason HLG is so consistent is because it's an actual cross-platform standard that all manufacturers implement the same way (except Sony, but just stick with HLG3). In practice, "Standard" is store salesman demo mode and LOG is different on every camera brand (and with Sony, every model). That, along with the huge mess that LUT's have become, is the post-production downfall of LOG profiles.
Agreed. As a beginner it's already confusing with all LOG, LUT, picture profiles, etc etc to get the color grading process right in the first place and it get even worse by all those "LUTs" that youtubers wanna sell that merely are glorified instagram filters..Where are the official LUTs one would ask? It's like shooting RAW without RAW-converter abilities....Fortunately color management in Davinci Resolve makes the need for LUTs pretty much obsolete, but no LUT selling youtuber wanna talk about this do they?

My A7III also had the exact same problems as in your video. I returned it after three days. A7C is the better buy for video. Will wait for more info on the A7IV before buying the A7C.
For Sonys' focus, do you use Face Recognition feature? (It's always going be your face.)

That rap was the best! Also you're convincing me to buy an a7c even though i already own an a7iii that i use mostly for loser photography. I've been making my recent vlogs with the ZV1( I know, its a loser camera), but the a7c looks like its the perfect camera for regular youtubers who don't need all the crazy features of the a7siii.

Catalyst seems to analyze and stabilize the background at the expense of subject. It makes subject (you) look super wobbly, but makes background smooth, which is overall superior.

If they could update the firmware to apply the IBIS adjustments to the gyro data recorded, the catalyst browse stabilisation would work on top of IBIS

Around the 1:40 spot I'd day the A7c looks a little sickly due to a slight yellow hue and the A7III seems to lean a bit more magenta. A7c seems to have better AF but A7III seems to be better at exposing and has detail through the dynamic range.

How is the low light in this camera?
Maybe you could try Center Weighted metering when vlogging with such strong difference between light from the background and your face. Or even tighter, but then it would blow out the highlights in the background.
Have you ever used Samyang AF 18mm f2.8 ?
I would love to see you use that lens with the a7c.
One thing to note, is that in your sit down vids like this with the side by side, one camera looks closer, the A7III?. You go in close for focus tests, so the minimum focusing distance may be different depending on which lens you're using, which may cause some issues.

Are both lenses latest firmware?
Did you had a monitor connected to the A7III to see yourself? Because that disables the face autofocus on that camera. On the A7C you have a flip out monitor so you would not need to use another, but even if you do, I think that they resolved that, and you can use an external monitor and still use face autofocus. That could explain the difference in autofocus performance.

I tell you my case. Big problem with my a7c camera. It does not focus on the eye in 4k quality if you have activated the "Remote PC" option in the menu.
That means if you connect the camera to a gimbal via a cable,
eye focus is not activated in 4k quality.
Testing in lower grades the problem is solved.
I used other stabilizers that don't use cable and the problem continues.

If Sony only had that SteadXP module or similar build it into the camera. That would be epic to have stable video like you get with the GoPro. That Catalyst software is great. Real time gyro stabilization data built into the camera would make this post process stabilize process so much faster. A7c with that software stabilization is the best buy for most people compared to the A7III.

It works with any Sony with a gyro sensor, A7III doesn't have it.

Why not showing a73 catylist mode?
Did the 28-75mm lens have its updated firmware? That lens famously struggles with AF before you update it. I'm not sure but I would guess that's the case because I've never seen my A7III struggle to focus like that. Just a thought. :)
Been using it for a year in tons of video applications and never had any issues. Weird.
s log has really bad af in the a7iii
The a7iii and third gen in general I believe have very poor autofocus in s log. hlg and standard you can see here are closer in af performance but the a7c has a slight advantage still. If you have an a7iii though no need to get an a7c. I still appreciate the extra controls and grip on the a7iii more.

Where did you find your Sony LUTS to use? Been looking forever especially for an HLG lut but can’t find one without purchasing. Fuji offers an Flog too Eterna and that makes it so simple.
