The NEC classic car show 2022 - it was HUGE

  • As expected, the NEC classic car show 2022 was huge, with five enormous exhibitor halls packed to the rafters almost with a mind-boggling array of vintage and classic cars. Mixed in amongst the cars were all manner of other vehicles, from an ex-Wings (Paul McCartney) tour bus, to old scooters, tractors, a few lorries, vans, microcars, plus classic cars up for auction, autojumble stalls, and so much more, all relating to the ever-popular classic car world.
The NEC classic car show, or the "Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show, with discovery+" classic car show to give it its full title, runs for three days, Friday to Sunday, and must be the biggest show of its type to be held here in the UK. If you're planning a visit in future, wear good shoes and try and prepare your route around the show before you get here, so that you don't miss the cars that you're most interested in. Fords, for example, are mainly grouped together into Hall 8. The variety of old cars and other vehicles on show is remarkable, and the scale of the event quite staggering to me, being more used to pub meets and evening gatherings as I am.
In this video I feature over 300 of the classic cars on display. I had planned on doing a walkaround type video as I often do at classic car shows, but after a couple of trial recordings I found that the background noise as the show got busier, and in some cases the music playing in the background (which could lead to copyright issues if I included it in the vid) meant that it was better to put a photos collection together instead. This approach also made it easier to focus on the cars that were more of interest to me, skipping those that aren't really in the scope of - or a bit too new for - the Old Classic Car channel. If I included your car, please pop a note into the comments and say hello. If I missed out your car - sorry!!! I took over 900 photos during the day and even then I missed out nearly all of the classic car auction area, and no doubt many of the club stands, but I did my best.
I can really recommend a visit to the NEC classic car show, I like it because there are often many old cars on show that I just wouldn't see anywhere else, but pre-planning to make best use of your time there is essential.
I hope this collection proves to be of interest and gives just a flavour of what the event held at the National Exhibition Centre (NEC) is like. There are loads of walkaround show videos on the channel now so please take a look at them when you're finished here.

What a lot of special vehicles that you have managed to photograph in this show. I spent a happy time just looking at them. For me the star is the Jowett Bradford Utility. I can imagine it in the Mustard colour of the one I loved so much in 1955 aged around nine.

    NOTE**
Later Bricklin cars had a Ford 351 ci. “Windsor “ engine.
The last of the cars were produced in early 1976.**
    Great video .
    The Gordon-Keeble,
then the 2 Borgward Isabellas, though I also like the early post-war British cars, especially the Jowette.
    The M.G. 1100 “Sedan “/[ saloon](😁), was very cute.
I’m also partial towards the Ford Cortina MK-2 design.
Either the “wagon “[ estate], or the coup. It’s just a nice simple clean design, that can look really sporty with little effort.

Very nice indeed . I've had this on my to watch list for sometime ! The Lotus Cortina was Jim Clarks car and was fitted with the Elan rear i.r.s . Jim was asked to try it out by Colin Chapman, he never got it back ! I comprehensively restored this car some years back and the present owner turned down an offer of £350k ! He also has the last Lotus Cortina l restored . Regarding the V12 "e"type they did have Strombergs but that example was on S.U.'s ........nit picking ! I have to make it next year ! Thankyou

A sort of derring-do crime fighter series which I found on the internet, somewhere. All jolly good fun and all that. Fantastic collection of vehicles at the NEC.👍👍

Hi Rick, I owned a Vauxhall PC Estate very similar to the Queens Vauxhall Viceroy Estate on 30-08 I believe it was made by Abbot It was a fabulous car three speed with overdrive . In the long ago days without Radar it would cruise happily at 90/ 100 mph on the motorway
I paid £130 for the car serviced it replaced the servo on the overdrive, when I bought it it was cheap because of no overdrive. I sold it to a friend who used it as a racing car tow car. This was a great car one of my favourites “ O for a barn all those years ago” Alan

Thanks for another great vlog.I know you are a fan of the Standard, have you read The Works Triumphs by Graham Robson? it's all-out the Standard Triumph Rally Team from the Standards through to the TR7 V8,the first few chapters are all about the Standards which you might find interesting Back to your video I was loaned an Opel Ascona 400 road car when woking for a Vauxhall Dealer apparently only 2 right hand drive cars were ever built by the factory, its was delivered with virtually no oil in the engine, and has now been lost without trace,I wonder if it is still in a barn somewhere waiting to be rediscovered ,I think VBOA would like it on their stand As for the Moskavitch, I remember going to a club rally evening compared by Jim Gavin he had done the Tour of Britain rally in one and when he came into Paddock Bend at Brand,s Hatch flat out it was doing 57MPH

I think I’ve watched most of the videos of this show that are out there and this is the best format by far. I think I’m right in saying that the Sweeney Granada was actually a Consul 3000GTto be replaced by a mk2 Granada 2.8iS in the later series. It was nice to see a mk2 Cavalier SRi,I had one the same colour and age in the late’80s,extremely reliable if I remember correctly. It was great to see a couple of Gerald Palmer’s finest with the Jowett and the Wolesley. I think the Minor catering van with the very high roof conversion would have started life as a Gown Van,the height enabled garments to be transported on hangers without creasing or damage but not too heavy,I’ve seen a few photos of car derived vans converted like this in the past but needless to say, survivors must be very few and far between.Great video and a very pleasant way to spend a Sunday afternoon.Keep up the good work.

Doing a walkaround was my first choice but at least this way I can focus on the cars I found most interesting, without having to edit out or walk briskly past things of less interest personally. Plus the background music thing in one of the halls that could have been a problem. Glad it was of interest.

If I could take anything home from here, it would be either of the Armstrong Siddeleys, or the Mk 1 Ford Zodiac Six as my Dad had one in that colour, in about 1962 - 455 AML.
