I ❤️ This City in INDONESIA

- I love this city in Indonesia, the city of Surakarta, also known as Solo. Today, I walk around this city and talk about a bunch of different things. This is the city where the current president of Indonesia is from. Solo is also known for batik, so I had to buy myself a shirt from here. I visit a war memorial, I meet some locals, I buy bananas, I see kids fishing in the canals, I meet a guy indulging in some alcohol, and I meet some beautiful girls who convince me to buy their product.

Thanks for watching and stay tuned for more videos from #Surakarta

Thank you for being respectful to the religion and cultural activities in Indonesia, and thank you for loving our country. You're a part of our family Indonesia🇮🇩 smile, love and peace ❤️🇮🇩
cheers, thank you!
Agree.. keep spreading kindness Nick.. 😀
Nick ganteng sekali pakai batik 👍🙏
The seeds you think of Luwak coffee are actually kluwek. Kluwek is the main ingredient for making rawon that you've ever eaten in Surabaya, Nick.
Yes!
That street that you are in 12:18 is the main tourist atrraction in Kauman, it has huge impact on locals that sells batik. Pandemic really hits hard when many of the shops has to closed for tourist and some even closed for good. They're still recovering now and hopefully through your video more people will come check them out
yeah, it was such a cool street lined with beautiful batik shops, hopefully this video helps!
Hopefully you can upload new videos every day, because we are here waiting for every video you upload, especially about cities in Indonesia.. I hope you are always healthy and excited to make videos, Nick... greetings from your fans from Sumedang city..
thanks, yeah I'm in Bali at the moment so I'm just focusing on editing and getting all my of Java videos done before I continue on...
@@NickKTravel yeah nick. i agree, im waiting your videos 😇🙏
Don't expect too much. Especially Nick here between his real activities and his videos are so close. Like.. Maybe he visited a museum in monday and he uploads his video in Thursday. It's so close. Only got 3 days to edit.
But for his future videomaking career i hope he be like.. Uploads his videos like.. weeks or even 1 month after he took the video. It's to make him to be able to enjoy stuff. And edit with ease. With this 1 month duration, he can upload 1 vid per day. But it's if he got enough videos in his stock
He needs to live his life too
sumedang hadirr
14:32 as someone who's sensitive to sharp smell, I dislike smokers. I usually put a good distance away when one gets too close to me, just so they won't notice me coughing at them. I get pulsing headaches within seconds of inhaling smoke. One of my cousins flat out said that smoking is tradition here, which I rightfully called bullshit. Gamelan is tradition. Batik is tradition. Keris is tradition. Smoking is not. My dad smoked a lot in his youth and a few years ago he was admitted to a hospital after a respiratory problem where we found out that part of his lung has hardened, and inside the damaged area were like webs of glass. He quit smoking for more than twenty years ago when this happened but the damage was already done. Sometimes young people think they're outwardly healthy and that smoking's risk is overly exaggerated. Then they'll find out years down the line that it's not so.
15:01 this is recent development. Just less than a decade ago, the health warning was just the generic "smoking may cause cancer, heart attack, etc". Because it's not effective, for reasons we may never know, all cigarette manufacturers are now forced to put in scarier health warnings, complete with pictures. There are pictures of a man with a hole in his throat, a picture of black lungs on an autopsy, a picture of a man smoking where the smoke makes skull shapes around him, and so on, almost like a morbid collectible packs of some sort. Minimarket workers played the game by putting packages with less scary pictures for display, and sometimes costumers also ask for the picture of that guy with skull smoke clouds. They're scared of seeing the black lungs, but did nothing about it anyway.
21:15 "Selera" means taste, preference, or type. So it's literally translated as "men have taste". Taste for what, well it's a cigarette ad with classy looking guy on the cover, so the implication is pretty obvious.
27:44 it's Kluwek, or this thing www.wikiwand.com/en/Pangium it's used to cook Rawon. Detail is in the article. It's definitely not Luwak (civet) the animal or Luwak coffee, though they sound similar.
28:45 next time you can ask "mancing?" which is the activity of fishing. In America you go fishing for fish, but in Indonesia you go mancing for ikan.
32:30 guy said it already, but assorted liquors in Indonesia are called Chiu. Usually homebrewed too, that's why it's in a water bottle. Also why he's drinking it in public, because this is just water, officer.
35:24 my theory is that there was a single shop in that area who became successful first, then because everyone keeps going there for that particular business then other shops start popping up around it, trying to snag some customers. For example, there was a particularly good tire shop, then because everyone knows to go there for tires the entire street becomes tire shop street. Never been to Solo though so can't confirm if that's the case.
@Nick K good explanation here Nick 👆🏻
well said ☝️
Ga bosen bolak balik ke solo,, makanan enak bin murah, Kota ga terlalu hiruk pikuk, Dan gang2 sempit nnya bersih,, rapih,,, krn culture orang2 yg tgg jawab sama kebersihan lingkungan udah kebentuk...
I am Filipino but I am enjoying your Indonesia vlogs. Learned a lot from the trivia bits. Hoping to do a trip of my own in the future. Safe travels!
When he was little, Obama lived and studied in Jakarta, Indonesia, even his stepfather came from Yogyakarta
Salfok warga solo tertib banget lalu lintas terutama dilampu merah👌👌
Mayoritas sangat tertib mas, jarang bgt ada yg berani ngelanggar garis marka lampu merah. Selain krn efek ETLE, kesadaran masyarakatnya sendiri jg dah bagus. Semoga daerah lain bs mencontoh
15:22 Boys will be boys guys🤣😂 Can't blame you Nick. I will go there too eventho I dont need some phone case.
I see you're a man of culture as well 😎
two years ago I used to work and live in Solo, the food is cheap and the people are friendly. I hope to visit Solo again, I hope you like the food in Solo 🙏
I totally agree!
Thank you so much to cover Solo recently, the magic city ever, love Solo so much, hope you enjoy and love Solo and Indonesia too
Great videos. Sincere, genuine, insightful look at local Indonesian culture. Yet when there’s a shop with half a dozen beautiful young ladies, well, there’s no passing that by!! 😆 love that!! 👏
Hi Nick. Love the new shirt and what a beautiful building/shop/cafe. Loved the little streets. So clean. Very interesting video today.
When you saw the thing on the market and you heard many people said Kluwak, but you just heard "Luwak". Actually that wasnot LUWAK but it was KLUWAK, Kluwak is for seasoning the food... Luwak ke the animal that really like to eat coffee Bean/fruit. They just eat the best coffee Bean and they deny the bad one... Nice knowing people as like you to know much about Indonesia... Be successand be happy... 💕💝💞
Wow, your knowledge about Indonesia and it's history amazes me..

thank you, i like them too, always something interesting to see!
35:23 I can answer that Nick. Many people in Indonesia prefer to buy something in a place that sells item with 1 speciality, because in a place with a lot of people selling only 1 kind of item, usually they must compete each other to determine the price. so the cost of the item can really go down. rather than u buy on a shop that have no other competitive seller, usually they monopolize the price.
interesting, thank you!
Wah jawaban seperti ini belum terpikir. Bener juga Mas, waktu di Bali suamiku tanya kenapa semuanya jualan barang/buah yg sama . Aku jawab krn musim
Keren sekali batiknya mr.i like it

Saya suka dengan konten nya apalagi pas nick lewat depan masjid dia hening sejenak dia menghargai orang islam lagi beribadah👍👍👍
Good choice with the shirt, Bro. I love batik, it’s formal enough in Indonesia (no suits or ties necessary ) so you can wear it to Indonesian weddings and functions, but it is cool (being 100% cotton) and like you said a ‘summer’ or prefect for the beach type shirt.
By the way one of those jewellery shops was called kelapa mas or coconut gold shop in English . Great name.
thanks for making this vlog, i really miss my hometown rn
Love your videos man.
New subscriber here! I am actually going to Semarang on May 25th! I’m so excited!

always excited when there is a new video. will not skip the ads .. hehe
Wow, thank you
l am glad you visit to solo Nick
my maternal grandfather came from a family of successful batik producers in solo. i heard they used to own several buildings/houses there in the Kauman area. he and his brother even used to own a movie theater in solo back in the day. i've never seen what's left of their glory days though, so to me it sounds almost like a fairy tale.
baru kali ini bule mau belajar dulu sejarah dr kota kota yg dikunjunginya, dia juga kuat bgt jalan kaki, pdhl itu jaraknya udh terlampau jauh wkwkwk.
Proud of you, Nick!
you gotta know, solo is kwon for "seng su" aka "dog dish", so there is no wonder if there are some dog hanging around before they turn into some dish
Try going to Tawangmangu (mountain) Nick..about 40 kilometer from Solo.
Hotel, villa so many...amazing view, fresh air.
Good place for relaxing.
Keep moving..stay healthy Nick 👍
