  • Hazbin Hotel and Helluva Boss take place in Hell, but what exactly counts as a sin in their world to send you there? While the shows lore has roots in Abrahamic religions, the introductions of the Princes ruling over 7 rings, one for each of the 7 deadly sins, sheds a little light on how to go to Hazbin Hell.

      My view of gluttony is simply not sharing food when critically necessary. Weightlifters have to eat unusually large amounts of food to stay in shape (and let's just say there are many other people in the world who are ignorantly undereating). Does that make them gluttons?

    • @elrojogrande744
      @elrojogrande744 Před 2 lety

      gluttony, at least in Christianity is consuming something more than you require at the expense of other people.
      it applies to food, drink, wealth, power, ot status.
      its more about the harm to others than it is the over consumption.
      consuming illegal substances could send you to hell because you dont need it at all and the production and transport of drugs required for you to be able to use it causes a lot of harm to a lot of people. just look at the cartles in Mexico for example.
      the main focus of gluttony in the sin context is the harm to others your overconsumption causes. simply over consuming something isn't necessarily a sin. were that not the case every person who died fat would automatically go to hell.

      @@greatwavefan397 probably not. you have a goal and see what you're doing to achieve that goal as necessary.
      a person who eats the same amount just because they can is likely guilty of gluttony.
      i think arguing that this harms other people because there are people starving in other countries is a bit absurd though. even if you didn't eat it theres still no way it would ever get to those people. its irrelevant whether you eat it or not. kim jong un is probably of gluttony because his over consumption directly deprives his people of food. the weight lifter cannot realistically said to have deprived a starving person in Africa of food by eating that. thats the distinction, at least from my perspective. i understand where you're coming from though.

    My vision of hell would be making people see themselves in 3rd person, watching what happened in their life that made them who they are and how their decisions affected others over and over again so they would reflect on it until they heal. It would be cool if there was a wise demon assigned to each of them that would guide them in their journey and make them questions, kind of like a therapist lol. Therapists will defiantly be needed for those that lack empathy as they will utterly not care, some may never be rehabilitated but eternity is punishment enough. There would also have to be a way to ensure they are sincere and there should probably be an atonement process. Reincarnation could be it if they have their memories, but having memories of a previous life causes all manner of problems. Plus continued reincarnation without memories seems a little pointless. Ultimately the best afterlife is none at all or one with the option to self terminate at any time. The stereotypical heaven might be fun for the first few thousand years, but if you're already feeling old in an average 80 year life span, just how are going to handle eternity? Immortality is a curse and there is really nothing to fear about death other then the missed experiences of life. I was dead for billions of years before I was born and didn't suffer in the slightest.

      GAH that would be the worst I hate my voice!!! However, I would say my belief in hell was more like the death note series in a way. So light Experiences every death he ever wrote and we when we die experience our lives through anything living around us after we die. We experience all the pain and pleasure WE cause weather we meant too or not But for me this happens BEFORE going into your next life and as much as I use to hate the thought of it I now believe all souls are one. Like a movie character or even in animation one person can play many different characters so do our souls but they are not bound by time and when played out it flows seamlessly. So that means the soul in me is the same soul in my dog and in the cow I have eaten as well as even in my rapist. That last part is always and always has been the hardest to conceive and do not get me wrong I still wish death on them but more as a way to make sure that THEY do not get to spread or comfort their way of thinking. like when all creation does die what is left is what the soul grows to be and the fewer time people and lives like his exist the less he has an impact on our soul. It kinda like getting rid of bad thoughts through meditation or removing a tumor it doesn't mean it never existed or you never had it but if you leave it to spread you have sowed your own demise....

      @@fabplays6559 No, God doesn't forgive people. He is Just, and will always give out the necessary punishment for sin.
      .... but that doesn't mean WE have to receive that punishment.
      That's why Jesus is a big deal in Christianity. He is the only person in history to be perfect, yet he died a sinner's death. If we *repent* of our sin and accept Jesus' Lordship and sacrifice, then the punishment WE deserve is put on HIM. We receive salvation, AND His Spirit in return, which slowly works to change us for the better.
      It may seem silly that someone who has followed Jesus their whole life can reap the same rewards as someone who has done evil all their life and truly repent right before they die.... but there's actually a parable about that in Matthew 20. Lol
      See, compared to God's absolute perfection, murdering 10 people is just as evil as lusting or gluttony (even tho the societal consequences of those actions are very different). That means the fact that God would elect to save US is just as miraculous as the fact that God would save a repentant murderer.

      But he also knew that Jesus' grace is larger, stronger, and deeper than anything he could ever do.
      So, yes, even if you are a serial killer, God still loves you. He wants you. He will accept you just as you are.

      @@Xx_Oleander_xX personally i think the best theory on what overpopulated means in this universe is that they don't want lucifier being able to amass an army large enough to be able to challenge god.
      overpopulation in the sense of not enough resources or space doesn't make sense in this universe. demons dont actually *need* food,water, or shelter. they enjoy those things, but do not need them. they are immortal outside of being killed by an angelic weapon.
      they are demonstrably worried about too many demons, but not for any reason having to do with having too many people to support.
      given that information, what interest does god have in controlling the population of hell?
      the only conclusion that makes sense in this universe from what vizziepop has revealed and where she has drawn inspiration from in many instances, its so lucifer cant raise an army capable of possibly overthrowing god, triggering their final battle and the end of days.
      they don't really care exactly how many souls are actually in hell. its been stated officially that the goal of the cleanse is to kill as many demons as possible, so we know it's not about a specific number.
      its about keeping lucifer from even thinking about attacking heaven. the maximum population of hell is however many lucifer might consider enough souls to actually overtake heaven and overthrow god, leading to him launching an attack. even if lucifer is wtong and loses, all the consequences of the battle still happen. the cleanse makes sure he knows he doesn't have enough to have any hope of winning so don't bother trying. thats what "overpopulation" means. they use that term because it makes their actions seem virtuous or for the good of the rest of the people in hell, not because hell actually cant handle the number of souls for any reason.
      this is why Charlie finds the cleanse so heart breaking. she knows her people are being slaughtered simply to keep her father complacent. the hotel both decreases the number in hell and increases the number in heaven so it is doubly effective.
      thats what seems most likely to me anyway.

    I saw in a video on Dante's Inferno that in ancient times, a LOT of stuff could damn you. Not sure if Vivzie is only sticking to the main 7 sins or if the show is also gonna branch into sins from ancient times. For example, I saw that practicing alchemy or "sorcery" got you into hell, suicide got you into hell (even if you never did anything else wrong your whole life), thievery for any reason got you into hell, abandoning your faith in church/religion damned you, etc.
    But i'm more curious as to why in Hazbin Hotel, sinners are only confined to the Pride ring and can't travel to any of the other rings when they should be instead stuck in the ring that corresponds to their sin. I hope they explain why in the future

    • @deepcut7788
      @deepcut7788 Před 3 lety +22

      A lot of older sins still fell under the '7 deadly sins' in various ways, which is why they were thought up at some point. Doing magic or alchemy is considered a point of pride, which may seem weird to someone today, but in a world where religion was of the upmost importance, thinking that you in particular deserve to control the world using magic or alchemy shows you have too much pride, that you want to be like god, not bound by the natural rules.
      Because the show its self is NOT commentary on religion but uses religion more as a basis for lore, I really doubt they will be going into things that are particularly specific to religion, abandoning your religion / faith wouldn't make sense to their narrative.

After a long time there, souls will transform into trees and become part of Hell, until they are allowed to have another chance at life. Actually, if you look at the characters in BOTH Vivzie's series, you will see a sense that these people or even demons would be decent people except for a certain judgement where they all got damned and stuck in an eternal prison where they all had to play the "game" in order to survive. Charlie gets to stay a "Polyanna" because her parents are the most powerful in Hell and so she's sheltered from having to fight fire with fire. You see the scene where Angel pushes Cherry out of the way just before an egg henchman shoots the bondage gun. Angel sacrifices his own safety for his friend. You see Vaggie standing in the way of the RadioDemon even though she knows it might be her downfall simply because she doesn't want him to harm Charlie. Moxxie has a sense of morality and concern for harming innocence even though he was born an imp a natural denizen of hell. In all these cases you see selflessness and putting others above your own needs and even survival. So to judge them worthy of hell, one would have to ignore their very nature and just pick on the bad aspects.
    That shows the hypocritical nature of the Angels which might actually be in control of heaven in this universe. They would see someone's sins, but would never consider the actual good in them. Hence why the idea of "sin" is so imperfect and in itself "sinful". Now I can understand the imps not really "deserving" a human kind of heaven. But then, animals attack and predate humans, do they all get sent to hell for "murdering" humans?
    Angels go to Heaven yet they are very murderous by performing the "cleanse" every year. This, I doubt was sanctioned by "God" or "Jesus". In fact, there's a question that God is even in control with Blitz's statement "Well Christ on a stick, I guess there really is a god."

I don't think you're support to take her song lyrics so literally, it's basically just a random string of words that rhyme, it doesn't necessarily tell you what can get you into hell.

    In Hazbin, I’d doubt that you could rehabilitate a demon. I think you could improve them, but the standard to get into the gated community of heaven would be impossible to do if already in hell and the best thing about the hotel is allowing a person to be better and help each other. For example, Angel Dust in the pilot at one point convinces himself to not attempt to comfort Charlie because he doesn’t think Charlie would want to be comforted nor would it fit the persona he’s created for himself(even though he doesn’t really like his persona). Basically, striving to be a better person won’t get you into heaven but it will make where you are significantly better.

    The greatest sin of all is Betrayal, which is relegated as the Ninth Level and the most torturous. Though it usually connects to most other main sins, motivation-wise.
    If I controlled Hell it would start as torment for the crimes/evils/sins committed in life, including feeling the suffering you put others through. This would be followed by a healing process of sorts in Purgatory, where they exist until purified or descend to Hell. Those that ascend will be rewarded in Heaven for the good they had done (in Life/Hell/Purgatory) and wait for their eventual reincarnation.

    Okay I have a couple very much headcanon ideas/theories that I thought would be fun to share! (they are not all 100% Alistor based, the most interesting one for me only talks about him for one sentence)
    The first is, Alistor is able to destroy everyone and that the reason he joins the hotel is to get close to Lucifer (or to start a conflict with him, I wouldn't imagine he would take kindly to an unpredictable demon being so close to his daughter) and kill him turning Hell (or at least the pride ring) into ciaos! This one I know is very unlikely because Vivzie has said that Alisor's power is only strong when compared to mortal demons and not the princes of Hell! Though looking at the Katie Killjoy fight I don't think Charlie was always intended to be that strong, and before you say, "she was holding back and didn't want to hurt or kill her, may I point you too 14:45. That is not an ultra powerful demon who's power is only rivaled by her parents! She is not holding back! Or at the look of shock when Alistor gave that airship a colonoscopy that if she was so much more powerful she could of stopped it! But Vivzie's word is law and I respect her skill as a writer, she does such an amazing job with character development and dialog, not to mention world building! All I can write well is poetry (and sometimes emails)! So I will trust where she is taking things! Though I feel like creating a limit to a character like Alistor is a mistake, unless the plot goes to where he has to fight someone and looses for some plot point, if Alistor was this unpredictable unstoppable force that you know that if he wanted to he could end you and barely break a sweat doing so! This is just my opinion though, and maybe people like him not being so strong (those people are weird though)! Where I'm coming from is you don't surround a character with so much mystery and have him be so feared just to make him be a little above average! Unless they are some sort of charlatan like the Wizard of Oz or do it as a joke! But since there has only been one episode who knows what there is to come! It would be cool though if Vivzie was lying about Alistor to hide his origins or to underplay his power for some sort of surprise, I mean he does bear a striking resemblance to Lucifer, but then again from what I know Vivzie has had to change a lot of character designs because they look too much like other characters that she's already made, so that I am very doubtful of! The only reason I say it is the way Alistor looks at the family painting with Lucifer in it and how he makes almost the same face as him in the photo!
    Another one of my theories and a possibly more plausible e one (yet still a very doubtful one) is a theory about why the cleansing happens and why the demons are only allowed to stay in the pride ring, and even why Lucifer allows there to be Overlords! I first thought of this when looking at the giant pentagram in the sky, pentagrams are commonly used in fiction to either sacrifice something or to summon something. As we see in Helluva boss (as far as I know) the pride ring is the only ring to have a giant pentagram in the sky, which could mean that someone might of put it there. I believe it was put there by Lucifer, that he is using it as a way to gain unfathomable power. I believe that he is using the cleansing as a mass sacrifice to generate large amounts of magical energy. You may be wondering why Heaven would be the people sending in angles if Lucifer was exploiting it to power himself up? I must admit that it took me a second to figure that out, but I think I know why, and if true could make this a Helluva (tee hee) lot more interesting! My theory is that those aren't angles at all, but creations made by Lucifer designed as angles to put the blame onto heaven so once he has gained enough power he can roll up to heaven with a army of angry souls (who are used to warfare because of all the turf wars) to take control heaven. I believe that this might also be partially where Alistor got his power from. Since he is connected to the radio-waves he was somehow able to absorb some of the power some of the power that was going to Lucifer! That would also be an interesting reason why Alistor's power is not as strong as the big demons because he could be used as a reference to see how much power Lucifer is absorbing through the cleansing! A bit of confusion was raised when Stolis said that he wanted to stop people from stopping global warming so more people will die even though we have been told Hell has an overpopulation problem! But if it's a lie then that would make sense! Surprisingly, there is still more to this! When people saw that Imp city was founded in the 1980s (or was it in the 1880s?) that there must be an overpopulation problem on other rings as well, but I think that the imps were encouraged to move there to artificially inflate the population of the pride ring to sell the idea of this made up overpopulation crisis! Though I'm not certain, judging from the name (and other similar rules when it comes to the other rings) that humans are not allowed to live in Imp city, which would make things even worse for the sinners, like you, and if you've read this far reply saying, "Can I have a cookie now?"! I will admit that these might just be the ramblings of a madman, but I'm just doing this to get a fun idea out there that you might be able to enjoy!
    My last theory is about Alistor! I believe that he has trapped a ton of other demons and other citizens of hell(and maybe even some humans) in little pocket distentions, different ones depending on who it is! I believe the ones that he believes he may be able to use at some point he keeps in little illusions like Husker he keeps in a prison of illusions specially designed for whoever is trapped inside! For Husker he probably trapped him inside some sort of Casino and all the symbols appeared around him when he broke it. That would also explain why the pot turned all statisticy and disappeared like a hologram! Though I think Nifty may be different, I don't think she was naturally born or is a sinner, I believe she is a creation that Alistor made from shadows that he brings out on occasion! That's why no symbols appeared when she was summoned and why she was pure black when he first summoned her out of the fire! (though I wouldn't be surprised if she was made by someone else because of the poodle skirt she wears (and the rest of her outfit) that seems to of come out of the 50s (please correct me if I'm wrong) an era that Alistor has no connection with! Though he does have the power to manipulate shadows as we see in a couple occasions for example when he made the backup singers and players! Though this last part is a lot darker and I think is related to the reason Vivzie is secretive about how Alisor kills his victims! It's because he doesn't! I believe that he traps them in a pocket dimension where they become the audience of his show. Though, he might kill them and when he eats them their soul(?) gets sent into some sort of broadcasting station where he puppeteers them to be his laughing track and other thing while they sit and watch him unable to control their bodies having to sit and laugh when at Alistor's jokes or make any other reaction he wishes! Or perhaps manifest them as shadow like creatures to attack things like puppets! I've always liked the idea of a demon puppet-master that can raise an army of the dead and control them with like puppets!

    Do you think there are strip clubs on heaven, if the reason is to just make people happy? The strippers who love to strip and the people watching too?

    • @greatwavefan397
      @greatwavefan397 Před 2 lety +1

      Ew, no. The drive of strip clubs is lust, which most consider a sin. What would sin be doing in heaven?

    • @dragonfire481
      @dragonfire481 Před 2 lety

      @@greatwavefan397 For most people it would be for lust, BUT for these people in heaven it would be something different: feeling beautiful, empowered, enjoying the dance itself, and just feeling genuine happiness.

    "only hellborn species can traverse the rings, while earth-born sinners can only exist in the top ring, pride". what about mrs. mayberry? she died and went to hell, and then somehow ended up finding blitz and the imps. does this mean imp city is in the pride ring?
