- The funny thing about a daily drifter, is that you tend to daily much more than you drift. So unless you like clunking/juddering/jumping around parking lots while everyone wonders what's wrong with your car, an LSD is probably the way to go. Plus, they just drive nice. Real nice.

The best part is that they just casually let me know they wanted someone to come by to install it on camera. I had no idea it was going to be Ray himself. Best surprise ever. Ray really, really enjoys proper installs and talking diff tech - we needed out on stuff for a long ass time. Like, talking about "reverse" 1.5 ways and stuff. Wild. When I had a tooth break off a clutch plate on my Kaaz SQ 2.0 way, Ray sent me a free replacement even though it was an install error on my part. Super cool person to deal with, definitely a 'people before pennies' type of guy.

The reason a lot of people go with welding is not because it's best it's because they dont want to spend $1,000-1,500 on a Kaaz diff.
Also it's easier. No shimming, no maintaining, don't need to pull your ring gear
@@robeley514 yes but it can destroy the car and if you wanna daily or even just drive around the track a bit you will have lots of skipping and hopping which Causes extra unneeded tyre wear, and LSD is a good investment for tyres
@@beautifulbeaner if you are doing either a welded or an lsd you should be burning tires either way, not so much an investment for tires but for comfort

I bought a 2003 BMW e46d yesterday for £700 because of Hoonigan. Broke the traction control and abs already😂
Lol.. next time I reccomend to install one of those go cart kill switches to the wiring of one of ur abs wheel sensor (u can get it at any auto parts store tbh) and what it does is turn off ur abs and traction control because when one of the parts in the whole system isn’t working it disables the whole system. Run the 2 wires to ur glove box and pop that mf open and flip da switch when u ready to hoon !! And when ur done flip it back and ur back to normal again

Gotta say, the way you drive your car is therapeutic to watch. Very relaxed. Maybe its just me, but I find it very satisfying to see someone exit a powerslide on the outer guard pointed dead straight down the track for a smooth getaway. Hyped to see EVO content too.
Thanks man, that's a big compliment. This was only my second ever drift event, and my first RWD car. Spent all my time driving AWD cars in the snow where your inputs have to be smooth or else you just crash into shit 😅

Ray actually knows whats up. Those difs are all Lexus branded and all the oem parts are Lexus branded. Ls, gs, aristo, cresta, cressida, chaser, and Mk 2 can all use the same dif and parts.

In my world of dirt track racing, welding spider gears is common place. You can actually do a 1.5 too. Slightly different when it works, but it does work.

Channel turned into more of a "TV SHOW* style a long time ago, meaning everything is scheduled,pre- filmed then air on its time slots per channel. The random ppl showing up for true hooning days are a thing of the past. Tighter shims means a more a locked feel. Loose shims means better for street but worse for drift

When i first got started in garages all the older guys would tell me every time you pull a shaft out of a seal you should replace it. Even if it only has s few miles on it. Seals are cheap and easier to replace than the transmission you burned up because you didn't want to buy a new prop shaft seal.

If your changing you ring and pinion you should buy a install kit that comes with shims, crush sleeve etc. Or be like me and just throw it together. I haven't had a problem yet and half only needed minor shiming. No ideal gage just by the eye. But most of what I mess with is strait axel Ford stuff.

Setting up ring and pinions isn’t really that difficult. Just takes time and a few specific tools to do it.
Ive put lockers and 4.88s in my jeep; with almost 50k miles and no problems I musta got something right.
Make sure you buy a name brand set of gears too!
$100-200 gear sets aren’t worth wasting you time with unless it’s a trail/track only rig.
Eric Lock spend the money on good gear sets for a track car. I don’t want things breaking at those speeds due to cheapness
Idk if they’d break due to being cheaper gears. They’re just louder and require a little me time or “fine tuning” to get the pattern right.
My 84 Toyota has cheap USA Standard gears in it and they’ve been fine for 4+ years. But it’s a beater trail rig. It sees little to no blacktop so the loudness doesn’t bother me.
But the golden rule applies too..
Ya get what you pay for.

You can set lash by hand if you know how it should feel. Also I prefer to freeze the diff carrier and put the ring gear in the oven at 200° for more even heating

I had a Kaaz and it clunked a lot. I hated it. I ended up going with a tomie and it was quiet. But I think kaaz also makes a newer higher end diff that’s quiet and comes broken in
Now that it's broken in, this one is dead silent. It's rad.

remember guys, if you don't get the shim's, you'll be in a world of 'Hert' later (that sounds pretty good to me)
PRO TIP(or maybe poor folk tip): *buy a cheap ass oven off of Craigslist*, put the appropriate outlet in your garage
Not only can you evenly heat press/interference fit parts like this in it(stick the other part in a freezer if you have the space - everything will drop right in together), but you can also buy a cheap ass powder coating kit(such as from Eastwood) and powder coat your own parts as long as they fit inside.
Hell, throw some lunch on the stove top too since we're all nasty fucks that don't mind eating with greasy hands anyway.
Also, if you want to know how to install a rear end differential, look up articles from the off-road world - the off+roaders are the PROs at diff work since it's basically a necessity when building a wheeling rig
